When Logan Salyers' World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1918, he stated that he was self-employed in Humphrey, Kentucky, that his closest relative was Tom Salyers of Humphrey, that he was born March 17, 1897 in Humphrey, and that his father was born in Humphrey. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had gray eyes and light brown hair.

JONA LEE HERALD, daughter of NANCY R. MAY and JAMES N. HERALD, was born June 26, 1896 in Kentucky, died in July of 1976 in Norfolk, Virginia, and is buried in Calvary Baptist Cemetery in Rio Grande, Gallia County, Ohio. She married (1) RICHARD LEE SIMONS, son of ROBERT SIMONS and MARY E. (unknown last name), September 8, 1917. He was born April 4, 1895 in Crawford, Lewis County, West Virginia, and died October 19, 1918. She married (2) WILLIAM MATTHEW SPEIRS, son of WILLIAM B. SPEIRS and ELIZABETH ELLEN (unknown last name), about 1919. He was born May 30, 1879 in West Virginia, died June 6, 1960 in Gallipolis, Gallia County, Ohio, and is buried in Calvary Baptist Cemetery in Rio Grande, Gallia County, Ohio.

When Richard Lee Simons' World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Lewis County, West Virginia, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Walkersville, West Virginia, that he was single, that he had a dependent mother, and that he was born April 4, 1895 in Crawford, West Virginia. He was found to be tall, of medium stout build, and he had brown eyes and black hair.

When William Matthew Speirs' World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Weston, Lewis County, West Virginia, he stated that he was a monument salesman working for Weston Granite and Marble Works in Weston, that his closest relative was Elizabeth Ellen Speirs of Braxton County, West Virginia, and that he was born May 30, 1879. He was found to be tall and slender, and he had black eyes and black hair.

Information found on findagrave.com and a photo of their headstones shows that Jona L. Speirs lived from 1896 to 1976, and was buried in Calvary Baptist Cemetery in Rio Grande, Gallia County, Ohio, and that W. M. Speirs lived from 1879 to 1960, and was buried in the same cemetery.

According to Social Security death record transcripts, Jona Speirs was born June 26, 1896, and died in July of 1976. She received her Social Security card prior to 1951 in Kentucky, and her last place of residence was in Norfolk City, Virginia.

A partial transcript of his obituary in the Gallipolis Daily Tribune shows that William Matthew Speirs was born May 30, 1879, and died June 5, 1960 in Gallipolis, Ohio, at thea age of 81. His parents are listed as William and Ellen.

According to Ohio death record transcripts, William M. Speirs was born about 1879, and died June 6, 1960 at home in Gallia County at the age of 81. He was married at the time of his death.

On page 33 of the 1880 census for District 135 (Court House) in Lewis County, West Virginia (dated June 21, 1880), Elizabeth E. Spiers is listed as the head of the household for house #173, she's married, keeping house, born in West Virginia, parents born in Virginia, and she's 31 years old. Also listed are Elizabeth (daughter, "criple," born in West Virginia, parents born in West Virginia, age 11), Samuel J. (son, born in West Virginia, parents born in West Virginia, age 9), Henry P. (son, twin, born in West Virginia, parents born in West Virginia, age 6), Joseph I. (son, twin, born in West Virginia, parents born in West Virginia, age 6), Benjamin (son, born in West Virginia, parents born in West Virginia, age 4), and William M. (son, born in West Virginia, parents born in West Virginia, age 1).

On page 10 of the 1900 census for District 57 (Collins Settlement) in Lewis County, West Virginia (dated June 9, 1900), Robert Simons is listed as the head of the household for house #85, he's a farmer, born in August of 1840 in West Virginia, parents born in West Virginia, married for 26 years, and he's 59 years old. Also listed are Mary E. (wife, born in June of 1853 in West Virginia, parents born in Virginia, married for 26 years, she's given birth to 9 children and 8 are still living, age 46), James W.
