Berger Fieldsa also went by the name of Wilbur Theodore Fields, and was also known by the names of Billy, William, and "Handy". He was a private first class in "E" company of the 325 Glider Infantry Division, 82nd Airborne U.S. Army in Belgium in World War II. He was riding in a vehicle and was struck by a gun on a tank which was passing the vehicle he was in and he was killed, along with 3 others. He is buried in Belgium.

The Glider Infantry was quite a dangerous outfit to be in. They were supposed to be in on the Normandy Invasion on D-Day but were detained and didn't make the initial assault. They did fight in the Battle of the Bulge, which was just concluded prior to Berger's death on February 5, 1945.

At Normandy, gliders were towed to overhead and then cut loose at about 400 feet and the pilots had to find a spot to land in small fields with "hedgerows" and "Rommel Asparagus," which were steel pipes and pilings set upright to discourage such landings. The military leaders estimated that there would be 70% casualties in the landings but they sent them anyway because they thought that the risk was justified. They only lost 11% on the landings, but by the end of the 30 day battle the 325th had lost one third of their unit.

He married ETTA A. M. BLANKENSHIP, daughter of JOHN CLAYTON BLANKENSHIP and LOUDENA WILLIAMS, about 1913. She was born in February of 1889 in Morgan County, Kentucky.

Notes: Frank Blankenship's name has also been reported to having been Franklin Leander Blankenship. The fact that he was the son of Laura Conley and Sherman Blankenship comes from purely circumstancial evidence.

According to her death certificate, Goldia Alice Blankenship Adkins died July 7, 1924 in Cedar Grove, Carter County, Kentucky, from tuberculosis of the lungs and bowels. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Morgan County, her birth date as January 7, 1898, her marital status as married, her parents as John Clayton Blankinship (b. Elliott County) and Luedena Williams (b. Morgan County), the informant as Willis Newton Adkins of Enterprise, Kentucky, and the burial place as Stegall Cemetery.

Jessee R. Blankenship is listed as a son of Frank and Etta Blankenship in the 1920 and 1930 census reports, and when Frank filled out his World War II draft registration card in 1942 he listed Jessee as his closest relative. Jessee's birth record, however, lists his name as Jessee R. Carpenter. He was born September 10, 1912 in Breathitt County to Etta Blankenship. According to Social Security death record transcripts, Jesse R. Blankenship was born September 10, 1912, and died November 8, 2001. He received his Social Security card prior to 1951 in Kentucky, and his last place of residence was in Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana.

When Frank Blankenship's World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Morgan County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a farmer, that he had a wife and children, and that he was born April 5, 1891 in West Liberty, Kentucky. He was found to be tall, of medium build, and he had brown eyes and light-colored hair. Not being able to read or write, he signed the card with an "X."

When Frank Blankenship's World War II draft registration card was filled out on April 27, 1942 in Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana, he stated that he was working for Keener Packing Company, that the person who would always know his name was Jessee Blankenship, and that he was born April 5, 1892 in West Liberty, Kentucky. He was found to be 6 feet 2 inches tall, he weighed 145 pounds, and he had hazel-colored eyes, brown hair, and a light complexion.

According to Social Security death record transcripts, Frank Blankenship was born April 10, 1892, and died in October of 1975. He received his Social Security card prior to 1951 in Kentucky, and his last place of residence was in Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana.

Notes: David Johnson was first married to a Fanny Burke, as is shown in their daughter Melvina's obituary (1887-1953) and on her death certificate. Melvina was married to a William May.

He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had brown eyes and black hair.

Information found on findagrave.com shows that Celia Baldridge Hackworth lived from 1882 to 1965, and was buried in Hackworth Cemetery in Bonanza, Floyd County, Kentucky, and that Greenville "Green" Hackworth was born June 11, 1891, died in 1950, and was buried in the same cemetery. No headstone photos are provided.

According to his death certificate, Greene Hackworth died September 1, 1950 in Prestonsbug General Hospital in Prestonsburg, Floyd County, Kentucky, from liver cancer. Notes: Joseph Patton's 1st wife was reportedly Rhoda Dingus, and on his daughter Ellen's death certificate (1884-1928) her mother's maiden name is listed as Dingus.

He was born March 1, 1894 in Watergap, Floyd County, Kentucky, died December 27, 1978 in Floyd County, Kentucky, and is buried in Richmond Memorial Cemetery in Prestonsburg, Floyd County, Kentucky.

According to her death certificate, Alice Baldridge De Rossette died September 7, 1952 in Prestonsburg General Hospital from toxemia and an intestinal obstruction.
