He was born December 18, 1899 in Kentucky, died April 11, 1936 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in the family cemetery in Staffordsville, Johnson County, Kentucky. She married (2) DEWEY TACKETT, son of SANFORD TACKETT and DORA BAYES, about 1936. He was born August 23, 1909 in Staffordsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, died January 23, 1953 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Jayne Cemetery in Staffordsville, Johnson County, Kentucky.

    Notes: Dewey Tackett was the brother of Lorene Tackett.

    According to his obituary, Joe Jayne "was fatally shot at Paintsville Saturday, April 4, 1936, by Harry Adams, ex- Sheriff of Johnson County, and died at the Golden Rule Hospital on Saturday, April 11, one week after the shooting. Before his death Jayne professed faith in the Christian religion and was converted. He told members of the family he did not fear death and was ready to go. Mr. Jayne is survived by his father and mother, several brothers and sisters, a wife and a number of children. Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Mountain Furniture Company.     Business Man Dies In Louisville
    Paris L. Crace passed away late Friday afternoon at a Louisville Hospital where he was taken soon after suffering a stroke Thursday at West Baden, Indiana. Mr. and Mrs. Crace had left this city a few days previously for an extended vacation. The body was returned to Paintsville by the Jones Funeral Home and was prepared for burial and taken to Mrs. Crace's native home in Ivyton, Magoffin County, Sunday. Services were not conducted until Wednesday awaiting the arrival of a brother from Wenatchee, Wash. Survivng are Mrs. Crace, an only child, Paris, now serving with the Marines in the Pacific, the father, George Crace; three brothers, Dallas at Campbellsville, Ky., Delbert, with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific, Don of Wenatchee, Wash.; three sisters, Mrs. Bruce Howard, Knox, Ind., Elma Howard, Ypsilanti, Mich. and Gaynelle Trimble, Ashland. Mr. Crace was well known in business circles in this area. A native of Magoffin County, he had made his home in Paintsville the past twenty one years, the majority of which were spent as manager of the H. M. Howard Motor Co., and the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company. He was 45 years old at the time of his death.     Notes: Julia Davis Walters reportedly died January 11, 1906. The date is just listed as 1906 in William Walters' obituary.

    William Walters married Emma D. Allen, daughter of B. F. Allen and S. F. Scott, after Julia died. She was born March 6, 1883 in Virginia, died April 7, 1943 in Paintsville, and is buried in Thelma, Johnson County. This information comes from her death certificate.

    According to his death certificate, William Walters' cause of death on May 23, 1939 in Paintsville, had something to do with an enlarged prostate and an inability to care for himself. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Johnson County, his age as 76 years 6 months 7 days, his marital status as married, his wife as Emma Walters, his occupation as merchant, his parents as Shady Walters (b. Johnson County) and Elizabeth Literral (b. Johnson County), the informant as Leonard Walters of Meally, Kentucky, and the burial place as Concord, Johnson County, Kentucky.

    According to his obituary, W. M. Walters (age 73), son of the late Shady and Elizabeth Walters, was affectionately known as "Uncle Billie." He was born in 1865 at Bobbs Branch, near Offutt, died May 20, 1939 from an incurable disease that he had for 5 years, and was buried in Wheeler Cemetery near the old Walters homestead. He was married twice. First he married Julia Davis and to this union were born 3 sons, Leonard, Glen, and Mitchell. Julia died in 1906 and Mitchell died February 23, 1938.     Something is clearly wrong with the following information, since Hobart has brown eyes on his World War I draft registration card and he has blue eyes on his World War II draft registration card. The other information seems to line up, though. On the World War I card he's found to be a brakeman for the railroad - which is what he lists his occupation in the 1920 census - and his closest relative is John C. Akers. On the World War II card his closest relative is Ada Belle Akers - his wife.

    When John H. Akers' World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1918, he stated that he was a brakeman for the railroad in Portsmouth, Ohio, that he lived in Whites Creek, West Virginia, that his closest relative was John C. Akers of Whites Creek, and that he was born August 5, 1896 in Van Lear, Kentucky. He was found to be short and stout, and he had brown hair and brown eyes.

    When Hobart Akers' World War II draft registration card was filled out on April 27, 1942, stated that he was working for the Cincinnati Gas Company in Kenovahe, Wayne County, West Virginia, that his closest relative was Ada Belle Akers, and that he was born August 5, 1896 in Van Lear, Kentucky. He was found to be 6 feet tall, he weighed 170 pounds, and he had blue eyes, gray hair, and a ruddy complexion.

    According to Social Security death record transcripts, John Akers was born August 5, 1896, and died in June of 1976. His last place of residence was in Kenova, Wayne County, West Virginia.

    According to his obituary, Samuel Kent Akers (age 75), son of the late John C. and Loucinda Davis Akers, was a resident of Paintsville at the time of his death. He died May 2, 1972 in Paintsville Hospital, and was buried in the Welch Cemetery in Concord under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home.     When Hans William Kelley's World War II draft registration card was filled out on April 27, 1942 in Gilmer County, West Virginia, he stated that he was working for Minter Homes Corporation in Huntington, and that his closest relative was Ethel Kelley, and that he was born February 22, 1882 [1892] in Deering, Ohio. He was found to be 5 feet 7 inches tall, he weighed 150 pounds, and he had brown eyes, gray hair (and balding), and a ruddy complexion.

    According to her death certificate, Ethyl A. [Akers] Kelly died June 12, 1951 in St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia, from some kind of problem with the brain [hard to read] and arteriosclerosis. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Johnson County, Kentucky, her birth date as June 5, 1892, her marital status as widowed, her occupation as school teacher, her parents as John C. She was born January 28, 1897 in Whitehouse, Johnson County, Kentucky, died March 15, 1968 in Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Preston Cemetery in Meally, Johnson County, Kentucky. Goldie Plummer married (2) CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS PRICE, son of HENRY B. PRICE and SARAH FRANCES WARD.

    Notes: Christopher Columbus Price was the brother of Bert Price.

    When Mitchell Walters' World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1918 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was working for the Consolidation Coal Company in Van Lear, Kentucky, that his closest relative was W. M. Walters, and that he was born April 14, 1897. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had gray eyes and dark brown hair.

    According to his death certificate, Mitchel Walters died February 23, 1938 in Buffalo from silicosis and a dilated heart. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Johnson County, his age as 40, his wife as Goldie Walters, his occupation as miner, his parents as W. M. Walters (b. Johnson County) and Julia Davis (b. Johnson County), the informant as Leonard Walters of Meally, Kentucky. and the burial place as Buffalo, Johnson County.

    According to his obituary, Mitchell Walters (age 42), was a farmer and miner for most of his life.     FRANK RUSSELL STRAIT, son of ELIZABETH CONLEY and DAVID BLAKE STRAIT, was born in 1906 in Catlettsburg, Boyd County, Kentucky, died September 4, 1940 in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky, and is buried in Ashland Cemetery in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky. He married EMMA MYRTLE HUNNICUT, daughter of WILLIAM WASHINGTON HUNNICUT and CHLOE BELL PENNINGTON. She was born about 1910 in Kentucky. Emma Honnicut married (1) ARTHUR EDWARD MORSE, son of EDWARD C. MORSE and PAULINE L. RICHARDS.

    Notes: According to his death certificate, Frank Russell Strait died September 4, 1940 in Ashland from pulmonary tuberculosis. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Boyd County, Kentucky, his occupation as barber, his marital status as married, his wife as Myrtle Honnecutt Strait, his parents as John W.     ELZA ANDREW HALL, son of ANDREW JOSEPH HALL and MARY ELIZABETH RAMEY, was born June 4, 1896 in Thelma, Johnson County, Kentucky.

    Notes: When Elzie Hall's World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Thelma, Johnson County, that he was single and had a mother and brother who were his dependants, and that he was born June 4, 1896 in Thelma. He was found to be tall and slender, and he had brown eyes and light brown hair.

    According to his obituary, Elza Hall (age 64), son of the late A. J. and Sarah Elizabeth Ramey Hall, was born June 4, 1896 in Johnson County, died January 6, 1961 in a local Johnson County hospital, and was buried in Wheeler Cemetery in Concord. He was survived by 3 brothers, Curtis Hall (of Thelma), Charlie Hall (Meally), and James Hall (Lancer); 1 half-brother, John Hall (West Van Lear); and 1 half-sister, Mrs. Laura Sammons (West Van Lear).
