Paintsville, Kentucky, 5 feet 5 inches tall, brown eyes, light-colored hair, ruddy complexion, age 18 years 3 months) joined the Army on April 7, 1911 in Missouri, and was "Dis. without-honor" on April 24, 1911 in Columbus, Ohio.

When Beacher Conley's World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a boiler maker working for D. Connlly [sic] Boiler Company in Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio, that he was single, that he had served as a private in the Infantry for 2 months, and that he was born December 17, 1894 in Paintsville, Kentucky. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had brown eyes and light-colored hair.

When Beecher Betram Conley's World War I draft registration card was filled out on April 27, 1942 in Chesapeake, Lawrence County, Ohio, he stated that he was working for Carbide & Carbon Chemicals in Charleston, West Virginia, that the person who would always know his address was Mamie Conley of Kitts Hill, Ohio, and that he was born December 17, 1895 in Johnson County, Kentucky. He was found to be 5 feet 7 inches tall, he weighed 150 pounds, and he had brown eyes, brown hair, and a ruddy complexion. It also says "said he was born in 1874 but must have been mistaken - he looks like the age he gave (47)"

He was found to be tall and slender, and he had brown eyes and light-colored hair.

Notes: Henry J. Milem's full name was reportedly Henderson J. Milem.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, H. J. Milum (2nd marriage, age 43) married Lizzie Conley (age 24) on November 9, 1890 in Johnson County.

The city directory for Ironton, Ohio, in 1930 shows "Milem Eliz (wid Henry) clk New System Bakin Corp h111 1/2 N 2d."

Henry Milem filed for a pension for being a Civil War soldier on September 11, 1883 in Kentucky. He servid in "A 39 & F 39 Ky Inf" and was reportedly an invalid. On October 8, 1910 his widow, Elizabeth Milem, filed for the same pension in Ohio. A claim for what appears to be his minor granddaughter, Elizabeth (of Ohio), also was filed.

Information found on findagrave.com and a photo of her headstone shows that Elizabeth C. Milem lived from 1871 to 1961 and was buried in Plot C in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, Greenup County, Kentucky.

According to Ohio death record transcripts, Elizabe C. Milem [sic] was born about 1871, and died November 8, 1961 in River Valley Health Systems in Ironton, Lawrence County, at the age of 90. She was widowed at the time of her death.

EASTON, daughter of WILLIAM B. EASTON and (unknown), about 1920. She was born June 16, 1896 in Kentucky, and died in June of 1980, Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky.

Notes: According to his death certificate, William B. Easton died September 22, 1943 in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky, from a cerebral hemorrhage due to arteriosclerosis. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Maysville, Kentucky, his birth date as September 30, 1866, his marital status as widowed, his wife as Arabelle Easton, his occupation as superintendant, retired, of Cincinatti Roofing Company, his parents as Samuel Easton (b. Mason County, Kentucky) and Jane Blair (b. Mason County, Kentucky), the informant as A. A. Milem of Ashland, and the burial place as Highland Cemetery in Covington, Kentucky.

When Arthur Milem's World War I draft registration card was filled out on May 30, 1917 in Ironton, Ohio, he stated that he was working for the Cesapeake & Ohio Railroad in Covington, Kentucky, that he was single and had a dependent mother, that he had been a sergeant in the infantry, and that he was born August 27, 1891 in Paintsville, Kentucky. He was found to be tall and slender, and he had brown eyes and black hair.

The city directory for Ironton, Ohio, in 1930 shows "Milem Arth C. (Bendola) asst train mstr H710 N 6th." In the 1928 city directory Bendola's middle initial is "F."

An application was submitted on August 22, 1950 in Ashland, Kentucky, for a U.S. Veteran gravesite marker by Mrs. Arthur Milen for her husband. According to this application, Arther Milem was born August 27, 1892 in Kentucky, died July 14, 1950, and was buried in Highland Cemetery in Covington, Kentucky. He enlisted on May 16, 1918, achieved the rank of Corporal in the Transportation Corps in Ohio, and was honorably discharged on June 24, 1919. The application was approved and the marker was ordered on December 6, 1950.

GEORGE N. BLAIR, son of JOHN L. BLAIR and JANE CAUDILL, was born August 1, 1855 in Johnson County, Kentucky, and died after 1937. He married SARAH C. LITTERAL, daughter of ELIZABETH LOUISA "ELIZA" PACE and JAMES WESLEY LITTERAL. She was born September 17, 1861 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, died May 2, 1937 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Fairchild Cemetery in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky.

Notes: According to Kentucky birth records, George N. Blare was born August 1, 1855 in Johnson County to John L. Blare and Jane Caudill.

According to Kentucky birth records, Sarah C. Letteral was born September 17, 1861 in Magoffin County to Jame W. Letteral (b. Floyd County) and Eliza Pace (b. Harlan County).

A letter dated March 25, 1950 filed by the Magoffin County Board of Education states that according to school census records from 1901-1902, William Litteral, son of Sarah Litteral and step-father George Blair, was born January 29, 1882.

According to his death certificate, there was a George H. Blair who died December 29, 1943 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and the cause of death is listed as "Sick for some eight years." Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Johnson County, his age as about 89, his occupation as farmer, and the burial place as Paintsville.

According to her obituary, Sarah Litteral Blair (age about 75), daughter of the late Wesley Litteral (of Oil Springs), died May 2, 1937 at the Southside [Paintsville] home of her daughter, Mrs. Resina Oppenheimer, and was buried in Fairchild Cemetery in Southside. She was survived by her husband, George Blair; 1 son, William Blair (of Magoffin County); and 1 daughter, Mrs. Resina Oppenheimer.       When James Elliott Hackworth's World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1918 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, he stated that he was self-employed in Ivyton, Kentucky, that his closest relative was Malta Hackworth of Ivyton, and that he was born August 26, 1926 in Ivyton. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had blue eyes and dark brown hair. Not being able to read or write, he signed the card with an "X."
      According to Social Security death record transcripts, James Hackworth was born August 26, 1896, and died in March of 1968. He received his Social Security card prior to 1951 in Kentucky, and his last place of residence was in Tekonsha, Calhoun County, Michigan.
