        Notes: According to his obituary, "Frank Jackson Conley, 79, retired businessman and prominent resident of this city, died suddenly around 5:30 a.m. Friday, August 10 [1962], at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Roger Stewart, Second Street. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Mr. Conley, one of ten children, was born at Rockhouse December 17, 1882, a son of the late James Hayden and Ellen Rice Conley, members of two of Johnson County’s influential and outstanding families. He received his early educational training in the public schools of this county and attended the Sandy Valley Seminary, completing his education at Bowling Green Business University. Following completion of his schooling, he returned to Paintsville, served as a substitute teacher at Sandy Valley Seminary and became the first principal of the Van Lear School. Later he went to Oklahoma where he was in charge of the commercial department of the Ada High School. Returning to Paintsville, he left the educational field, after ten years of teaching, and became a successful businessman with the establishment in 1919 of the Paintsville Furniture Co., which later operated at the Paintsville Furniture and Funeral Home. Mr. Conley attended the Cincinnati School of Embalming and was the first licensed funeral director and mortician in Eastern Kentucky. He became a member of the Mayo Methodist Church in 1910 and remained loyal and devoted throughout the years, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and as a member of the official board. A progressive citizen, he was always interested and active in civic affairs and served as a member of the City Council and of the Board of Education. He also served as secretary of the Rotary Club for many years. Until his illness and retirement, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. Mr. Conley was held in affectionate regard and high esteem by his associates and his many friends throughout this section. He was married in 1911 at Boons Camp to Clara Mollett, who preceded him in death November 16, 1956. Surviving besides Mrs. Stewart, are three other daughters, Mrs. Emmett Odgen, Carrollton; Mrs. J. O. Harris, Wheelwright; Mrs. Carl Swisheer, Huntington, WV; a sister, Mrs. Ray Turner, Turner Branch; a brother, Fonzo Conley, Staffordsville. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Mayo Memorial Methodist Church by the Rev. David Ross and Rev. C. F. Allen. Burial was in the Richmond Cemetery. She was survived by her husband, Frank J. Conley, who owned and operated the Paintsville Furniture Company until he retired about a year prior. She was also survived by 4 daughters, Mrs. Roger Stewart (of Paintsville), Mrs. Emmit Ogden (Carrollton), Mrs. Bill Harris (Wheelwright), and Mrs. Carl Swisher (Huntington, West Virginia); 2 brothers, Ben Mollett (Phoenix, Arizona) and Joe Mollett (Columbus, Ohio); and 7 grandchildren.     Notes: According to the book "The Conley Clan of Eastern Kentucky," published and sold by The Magoffin County Historical Society (page 106), William Conley was born April 13, 1888, and died March 3, 1939. According to Ohio death records, there was a William Conley that died March 3, 1938 in Scioto County.

    Also in that book, Martha Craft was born December 12, 1898, and died September 27, 1980. According to Social Security death record transcripts, there was a Martha Conley who was born December 17, 1898, and died in September of 1980. She received her Social Security card in Illinois prior to 1951, and her last place of residence was in Arlington Heights, Cook County, Illinois.

    When William Lloyd Conley's World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Boyd County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a laborer for Ashland Steel Company in Ashland, Kentucky, that he lived in Ashland, and that he was born April 13, 1888 near Salyersville, Magoffin County. He was found to be tall, of medium build, and he had brown eyes and black hair.

    On page 11 of the 1920 census for District 77 (Troy Township) in Delaware County, Ohio (dated January 20, 1920), there is a Lloyd Conley that is probably the one listed here. There's no trace of this family in the 1930 census. Lloyd W. Conley is listed as the head of the household for house #129, he's a farm laborer, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, and he's 31 years old. He married (2) MARY FRANCES BAYES, daughter of JOSHUA BAYES and (unknown first name) OWENS, about 1849. She was born May 25, 1833 in Kentucky, died January 8, 1912 in Low Gap, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Volga, Johnson County, Kentucky.

    Notes: Nimrod Hitchcock reportedly died April 15, 1894 in Johnson County, Kentucky.

    On Mary Bayes' brother William Bayes' death certificate (1838-1915), his parents are listed as Joshua Bayes and [no first name] Owens. Their mother's maiden name was reportedly Lucinda Owens, and she died in 1850.

    Notes: When Leslie Harvey Reynolds' World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a farmer in Barnetts Creek, Johnson County, that his closest relative was Elsie Reynolds (wife) of Barnetts Creek, and that he was born July 4, 1883. He was found to be tall and slender, and he head brown eyes and red hair.

    Notes: According to his obituary, Dr. Everett Conley (age 55), son of Millard D. and Louisa Johnson County, was found dead on Highway 23, 1/2 mile north of Chandler Camps, an apparent murder victim, and was buried in the family cemetery in Staffordsville. He was struck on the head with some kind of object, possibly a hammer, and died from exposure, partially submerged in the waters of Georges Creek. He was known to carry large amounts of money on him and was on his way to visit relatives in Paintsville. He had recently closed his office in Cleveland, where he had practiced medicine for 27 years, and sold all of his equipment, and had recently been in ill health. He was survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Conley; 1 son, Howard Conley (of Cleveland); 2 brothers, Brook Conley (Johnson County) and Leck Conley (Johnson County); and 2 sisters, Mrs. Norma Ferguson (Paintsville) and Mrs. Tom Treadway (Springfield, Missouri).

He was born January 23, 1867 in Kentucky, died October 17, 1945 in Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Barnetts Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky. She married (2) C.W. "CUB" WITTEN. He died in 1965.

He married ABIGAIL BROWN, daughter of LARKIN BROWN and ELIZABETH LEWIS, about 1896. She was born in April of 1877 in Kentucky, died April 26, 1971 in Marysville, Union County, Ohio, and is buried in the family cemetery in Manila, Johnson County, Kentucky.

    Notes: When Caleb Hitchcock's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Volga, Johnson County, that his closest relative was Abbie Hitchcock of Volga, and that he was born February 23, 1877. He was found to be 5 feet 9 inches tall, a stout build, and he had dark blue eyes and "bald black" hair.

    According to his death certificate, Caleb (NMN) [no middle name] Hitchcock died January 17, 1951 in Volga from unknown causes.
