MALCOLM C. "MACK" PENIX, son of MELVINA B. CRACE and JAMES H. PENIX, was born May 1, 1880 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, died October 31, 1956 in Boyd County, Kentucky, and is buried in Rose Hill Burial Park and Mausoleum in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky. He married PEARL HOWARD, daughter of ANDREW JACKSON HOWARD and MARY J. HOWARD, about 1902. She was born April 4, 1885 in Kentucky, died July 30, 1955 in Boyd County, Kentucky, and is buried in Rose Hill Burial Park and Mausoleum in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky. Pearl Howard married (1) FLOYD SELLARDS.

Notes: Information on this family can be found on page 76 of "The Conley Clan of Eastern Kentucky," published and sold by The Magoffin County Historical Society. In that book it says that Malcomb B. Penix was married first to Martha Ann Jenkins on September 1, 1906, and then to Pearly Sellars on October 10, 1908. This doesn't match the census reports, though. The 1910 census clearly shows Malcom as being on his first marriage and married for 7 years. Pearl is on her 2nd and has a daughter from her first marriage living with her. The 1930 census shows that Malcom was first married at age 22, which would be about 1902.

When Malcom Penix's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Catlettsburg, Boyd County, Kentucky, he stated that he was working at home in Ashland, Boyd County, that his closest relative was James Penix, and that he was born May 1, 1880. He was found to be tall and slender, and he had blue eyes and light-colored hair.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Andrew J. Howard married Mary Howard on September 9, 1872 in Magoffin County at the home of James Howard. The witnesses were R. L. Howard and Moses Howard, and the minister was Thomas Howard.

According to her death certificate, Mary Howard died June 18, 1927 in Plutarch, Magoffin County, Kentucky, from bronchitis. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Kentucky, her birth date as May 4, 1857, her marital status as married, her parents as James Howard (b. Kentucky) and Cyntha Howard (b. Kentucky), the informant as A. J. Howard of Plutarch, and the burial place as A. J. Howard Cemetery in Plutarch.

Information found on findagrave.com shows that Malcolm and Pearl Penix were both buried in Rose Hill Burial Park and Mausoleum in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky. No headstone photos are provided.

According to Kentucky death record transcripts, Malcolm C. Penix died October 31, 1956 in Boyd County at the age of 76.

According to Kentucky death record transcripts, Pearlie Penix died July 30, 1955 in Boyd County at the age of 65.

Notes: Abiud Coldiron's name has also been found as Abida, Abide, Abigah, Abijah, and Bide. It is listed as Abiud in the 1860 census when he is 4 months old and living with his parents, Jesse B. Coldiron and Lavina Lansdown, in Harlan County, Kentucky. It is Abigah in the 1880 census for District 114 (Morehead) in Rowan County, where he is found working as a farm laborer and living in the house next to his future wife, Amanda S. He was found to be short and stout, and he had blue eyes and partially bald.

Information found on the Johnson County Historical Society's website and a photo of their headstone shows that Flem Conley lived from 1881 to 1960, and was buried in J. B. Wells Cemetery in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and that Emma F. Conley lived from 1884 to 1968, and was buried in the same cemetery.

According to his obituary, Flem Conley (age 78), son of the late Monroe and Sara Williams Conley, was a retired miner and 48 year resident of Johnson County. He was born October 31, 1881 in Morgan County, died October 18, 1960 in a local Johnson County hospital after a 3 week illness, and was buried in Wells Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, Emma Coldiron County, whom he married in 1903; 2 sons, Stelson Conley (of Van Lear) and James H. Conley (Van Lear); 1 daughter, Mrs. Roy Colvin (Paintsville); 2 brothers, Frank Conley (Malone, Kentucky) and Sam Conley (McDowell, Kentucky); and 1 sister, Mrs. Mattie Stafford (Vanceburg). According to her death certificate, Della Howard Long died June 2, 1939 in Holzer Hospital in Gallipolis, Gallia County, Ohio, from suicide, after injecting lye at her home in Waterloo, Ohio. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Johnson County, her birth date as October 21, 1890, her marital status as widowed, her husband as Lindsey Long, her parents as Wash Howard (b. He was born in March of 1853 in Wise County, Virginia, died May 29, 1942 in Oil Springs, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in the family cemetery in Oil Springs, Johnson County, Kentucky.

Notes: According to her death certificate, Sarah Elizabeth Long died January 23, 1923 in Johnson County from acute broncho pneumonia. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Kentucky, her birth date as August 28, 1852, her marital status as married, her parents as Amos Colvin (b. Kentucky) and Polly Mahan (b. Kentucky), and the informant as Floyd Long of Oil Springs, Kentucky.

Notes: Sarah Caudill's age in the 1850 census is 6, but in the 1900 census she lists her birth date as June of 1841.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Sarah Caudill married Daniel Adams on November 4, 1868 in Magoffin County at the home of Jessie G. Adams. The witnesses were William Adams and Jessie G. Adams, and the minister was Wallis Bailey.

RUTH ELLEN LEMASTER, daughter of FLOTELLA F. WHEELER and LEO FRANK LEMASTER, was born April 9, 1908 in Coles County, Illinois, died May 2, 1993 in Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio, and is buried in Beaver Union Cemetery in Beaver, Pike County, Ohio. She married FOREST LEMASTER, son of LONNIE ROSCOE LEMASTER and ZORA FITCH, July 27, 1927. He was born August 16, 1909 in Lawrence County, Kentucky, died February 27, 1984 in Gallipolis, Gallia County, Ohio, and is buried in Beaver Union Cemetery in Beaver, Pike County, Ohio.

According to her death certificate, there was a baby girl who was stillborn on July 13, 1928 in Little Gap, Johnson County, Kentucky. Also on this certificate, her parents are listed as Forest Lemaster (b. Lawrence County) and Ruth Lemaster (b. Cole County), the informant as Minnie Stambaugh of Stambaugh, Kentucky, and the burial place as P. Lemaster Graveyard.

Information found on findagrave.com and a photo of their headstone shows that Ruthie Lemaster lived from 1908 to 1993, and was buried in Beaver Union Cemetery in Beaver, Pike County, Ohio, and that Forest Lemaster lived from 1909 to 1984, and was buried in the same cemetery.

According to his obituary, Forest Lemaster (age 74), son of the late Lonnie and Zora Fitch Lemaster, was a resident of Jackson, Ohio, at the time of his death. He was born August 16, 1909, died February 27, 1984 in Holzer Hospital in Gallipolis, Ohio, and was buried in Beaver Union Cemetery. He was married to Ruth Lemaster of Chandlerville on July 27, 1927. The lived in Johnson County until 1935. He was survived by his wife; 3 sons, Earl Lemaster (of Jackson, Ohio), Lonnie Lemaster (Beaver, Ohio), and Jessie Lemaster (Portsmouth, Ohio); 3 daughters, Mrs. Jock (Dorothy) Brunner (Beaver), Mrs. Ed (Mary) Hamilton (Beaver), and Mrs. Mitchell (Loretta) Conley (Frazeysburg, Ohio); 2 brothers, Hobert Lemaster (Ashland) and Marshall Lemaster (Ashland); 4 sisters, Mrs. Luda Preston (Paintsville), Mrs. Gladys Bays (Springfield, Ohio), Mrs. Aubry Bevins (Louisa), and Mrs. Earlene Clay (Grayson); 22 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
