RANEY EVERETT WILLIAMS, son of MARY ETTA "ETTA" CONLEY and GEORGE WASHINGTON WILLIAMS, was born May 12, 1905 in Pike County, Kentucky, died September 23, 1943 in Garrett, Floyd County, Kentucky, and is buried in Mossy Bottom Cemetery in Coal Run Village, Pike County, Kentucky. He married GRACE M. YOUNCE, daughter of JOHN A. YOUNCE and LOUISA HENSLEY, about 1925. She was born about 1908 in West Virginia.

Grace Younce was the sister of Gladys Younce.

According to his death certificate, there was a baby boy who was stillborn on November 29, 1936 in Coal Run, Pike County, to Raney Williams (b. Kentucky) and Gracie Yawance (b. Kentucky). Dr. J. C. Wheeler of Pikeville was the informant.

Information found on findagrave.com shows that Raney Everett Williams was buried in Mossy Bottom Cemetery in Coal Run Village, Pike County, Kentucky, although no photo of his headstones is provided.

According to his death certificate, Raney Everett Williams died September 23, 1943 in Garrett, Floyd County, Kentucky, when he was crushed falling slate in a mining accident. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Pike County, his birth date as May 12, 1905, his marital status as married, his wife as Gracie Williams, his occupation as coal miner, his parents as Geo. Washington Williams (b. Morgan County) and Mary Conley (b. Morgan County), the informant as Pearl Casebolt of Pikeville, Kentucky, and the burial place as Mossy Bottom, Kentucky. Pearl Casebolt was Raney's sister.

According to Kentucky death record transcripts, Raney E. Williams died September 23, 1943 in Floyd County at the age of 38. He was living in Floyd County at the time of his death.

JINCY ANN "ANNA" GULLETT, daughter of RACHEL TACKETT and WILLIAM GULLETT, was born in November of 1862 in Kentucky, died in 1952, and is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Union City, Branch County, Michigan. She married JAMES HENRY LOVE, son of WILLIAM JEFFERSON H. "JEFFERSON" LOVE and MARY ANDERSON, December 16, 1886 in Magoffin County, Kentucky. He was born in August of 1863 in Kentucky, died in 1953, and is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Union City, Branch County, Michigan.

Notes: James Love was the brother of Eliza Love and Julia Love.

According to Virginia marriage record transcripts, William J. Love (b. 1843, Lee County, West Virginia, single, age 23) married Mary Anderson on December 6, 1866 in Lee County. His parents are listed as And C. Love [sic] and Sarah E. Love.

According to her death certificate, Mary Anderson Love died July 4, 1921 in Lickburg, Magoffin County, Kentucky, from heart dropsy. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Virginia, her birth date as September 10, 1842, her marital status as widowed, her father as Jerry Anderson (b. Virginia), and the burial place as Hale Cemetery.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, James H. Love married Cynthia Ann Gullett on December 16, 1886 in Magoffin County at the home of William Gullett. The witnesses were C. S. Conley and William Cheek, and the minister was C. C. Crace.

Information found on findagrave.com and a photo of their headstone shows that Jincie Annie Love lived from 1862 to 1952, and was buried in Riverside Cemetery in Section 2 in Union City, Branch County, Michigan, and that James Henry Love lived from 1867 to 1954, and was buried in the same section in the same cemetery.

On page 61 of the 1870 census for White Shoals in Lee County, Virginia (dated September 15, 1870 [hard to read]), William Love is listed as the head of the household for house #424, he's born in Lee County and 27 years old. Also listed are Mary (born in Lee County, age 28), James H. (born in Lee County, age 3), Aaron (born in Virginia, age 1), and Andrew E. Love (born in Virginia, age 23). She married ALFRED A. DUCKETT, son of JOHN RICHARD DUCKETT and CYNTHIA EVELYN HEADRICK, May 19, 1929 in Williamsville, Wayne County, Missouri. He was born December 27, 1909, died November 21, 1982 in Poplar Bluff, Butler County, Missouri, and is buried in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Williamsville, Wayne County, Missouri.

Notes: John Richard Duckett's full name was determined by finding the obituary of his son George Luther Duckett (1892-1978), as was Cynthia Ellen Headrick's maiden name. In their son John Walter Duckett's (1900-1975) obituary, Cynthia's maiden name is listed as Hedrick.

According to Missouri marriage records, Alfred Duckett, son of J. R. Duckett, of Williamsville, Wayne County, married Lillian Kazee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Kazee of Williamsville, on May 19, 1929.

Information found on findagrave.com and a photo of their headstone shows that Lillian Duckett lived from March 25, 1910 to June 26, 1989, and was buried in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Williamsville, Wayne County, Missouri, and that Alfred A. Duckett lived from December 27, 1909 to November 21, 1982, and was buried in the same cemetery.

According to her obituary, Lillian Duckett (age 79), daughter of Daniel B. and Anna Kazee, was murdered in her home in Lancaster, Texas on June 26, 1989. She was born March 25, 1910 in Kentucky, married Alfred Duckett on May 19, 1929, and was buried in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Williamsville. She was preceded in death by her husband on November 21, 1982; 1 brother, Charles Robert Kazee; and 1 sister, Susan Patterson. She was survived by 1 brother, John Kazee of Lancaster, Texas. She married RUFUS KAZEE, son of CYNTHIA KAZEE and JOHN L. SPARKS, about 1874. He was born May 10, 1849 in Lawrence County, Kentucky, died February 24, 1917 in State Road Fork, Magoffin County, Kentucky, and is buried in J.Q.A. Bailey Cemetery in Falcon, Magoffin County, Kentucky.

Notes: According to his death certificate, Rufus Kazee died February 24, 1917 from apoplexy of the brain. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Lawrence County, his birth date as May 10, 1849, his marital status as married, his parents as John L. Sparks (b. She married CHARLEY CRAFT, son of MILTON CRAFT and TELIA DYER, about 1924. He was born May 17, 1898 in Kentucky, died March 20, 1950 in Ohio, and is buried in Spring Grove Cemetery in Carey, Wyandot County, Ohio.

Notes: Charley Craft was the brother of Ida Craft.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Milton Craft married Telia Dyer on June 10, 1892 in Magoffin County at the home of Riley Dyer. The witnesses were Lark Arnett and J. L. Arnett, and the minister was Riley Howard.

When Charlie Craft's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, he stated that he was farming for "Milton Craft Father" in Foraker, Magoffin County, that his closest relative was Milton Craft, and that he was born May 17, 1899. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had dark brown eyes and light brown hair.

Information found on findagrave.com shows that Della Carty Craft lived from June 3, 1906 to November 26, 1981, and was buried in Plot K in Spring Grove Cemetery in Carey, Wyandot County, Ohio, and that Charley Craft lived from May 7, 1899 to May 20, 1950, and was buried in the same plot in the same cemetery. No photos of their headstones are provided. Charley's parents are buried in the same cemetery, and a photo of their headstone can be found on this site.

According to Social Security death record transcripts, Della Craft was born June 3, 1906, and died in November of 1981. She received her Social Security card in 1974 in Ohio, and her last place of residence was in Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, Ohio.

According to Ohio death record transcripts, Della Craft was born about 1906 in Kentucky, and died November 26, 1981 in Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, at the age of 75. She was living in Upper Sandusky and widowed at the time of her death.

Information found on findagrave.com and a photo of their headstone shows that Marjorie Wheeler lived from February 20, 1919 to September 20, 2002, and was buried in Section B in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, Greenup County, Kentucky, and that Orin Wheeler lived from April 18, 1912, and was buried in the same section of the same cemetery. It also shows that they were married February 12, 1936, and that Orin was a private first class in the U.S. Army during World War II.

According to her obituary, Marjorie B. Conley Wheeler (age 83), daughter of the late Robert Wickliff Conley and Frankie Hannah Conley, was a resident of Bidwell, Ohio, at the time of her death. She was born February 20, 1919 in Staffordsville, died September 20, 2002 in Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, and was buried in Bellefonte Memorial Garden in Flatwoods. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orin Wheeler, in 1991; 2 brothers, Henry Conley and Melvin Conley; and 1 sister, Alka Holbrook. She was born November 10, 1839 in Floyd County, Kentucky, died December 6, 1918 in State Road Fork, Magoffin County, Kentucky, and is buried in the Ham Conley Cemetery in Falcon, Magoffin County, Kentucky.

Notes: Information on this family can be found on pages 335 & 542 of "The Conley Clan of Eastern Kentucky," published and sold by The Magoffin County Historical Society. In that book it says that Thomas Conley was born about 1836, and married Lydia Connelly daughter of David M. She was born November 10, 1839, died December 6, 1918, and was buried in Ham Conley Cemetery.

Notes: When Grant Spradlin's World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a laborer working for the Big Sandy and Kentucky Railroad Company from Dawkins to Riceville, Kentucky, that he was single, and that he was born November 24, 1893 in Barnetts Creek, Kentucky. He was found to be of medium height and slender build, and he had brown eyes, brown hair, and weak eyes.

     "Grant Spradlin, 61 died suddenly Thursday morning at his home here of a heart attack. His death followed that of his brother, Elbert Spradlin, of Barett, WVa. by only one week. Mr. Spradlin was the son of Ben I. Spradlin and Mary Ward Spradlin of the Jenny's Creek section of Johnson County. He was born November 24, 1892 and a member of the United Baptist Church. He was a miner by occupation. Mr. Spradlin was married in 1917 to Sara Blair who survives. Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Dallas Jackson and Miss Effie Spradlin, both of Paintsville. Two sisters, Mrs. Bert Daniel, Wharton, WVa., and Mrs. Raleigh Richie, Piketon, Ohio, and two brothers, Elmer Spradlin, Milford Center, Ohio, and Russell Spradlin, Wharton, WVa. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 12 at the Green Valley School on Barnetts Creek by Rev. Hammie May and Rev. Millard Bryant. Burial was made in the Blair Cemetery under the direction of the Paintsville Funeral Home."

No headstone photos are provided. Sarah Spradlin was said to be buried in the same cemetery, according to that website.

Elbert Spradlin 39 - year old miner, and son of Ben I. and Nora Leek Spradlin, was reared at Denver in this county, and resided at Barrett, WVa. at the time of his death. It was stated by attendants at the mortuary at Madison, WVa. where the body of Spradlin was taken, that he was either starting to take a bath or was just finishing when he opened fire with the German-made pistol at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The man was dead upon arrival at a Madison hospital. Spradlin's wife, the former Josephine Hitchcock, daughter of Mrs. Solon Prater of this city, was wounded in the back and right foot by slugs from the Luger. She underwent surgery at Madison General Hospital but physicians did not attempt to remove a slug lodged between her kidney and spleen according to reports. Hospital attendants reported yesterday that her condition had improved, and she is expected to recover. Spradlin worked at the Wharton No. 1 mine of Eastern Gas and Fuel Associates, and had just reached home and was bathing when the shooting occured, it was reported. He is survived by two brothers, Elmer Spradlin, Milford Center, Ohio, Russell Spradlin of Barrett, WVa., one sister, Mrs. Bert Daniel, Wharton, WVa., one half-brother, Grant Spradlin, Paintsville, and one half-sister, Mrs. Wallie Richie, Piketon, Ohio. She was born May 3, 1896 in Kentucky, and died October 2, 1980 in Springfield, Clark County, Ohio.

Notes: Nola Salyer was the sister of Erastus "Ras" Salyer.

Henry Columbus Salyer was the brother of Mary Elizabeth Salyer, Samuel Bracken "Bracken" Salyer, Thomas A. Salyer, and Lourana Salyer.

Genetta Williams' maiden name was determined by finding her obituary and from daughter Nola's obituary. According to his obituary, Irvin Conley (age 86), son of Thomas and Frankie Estep Conley, was born March 16, 1894 in Morgan County, died March 9, 1981 in Springfield, Ohio, and was buried in the Chandler-Salyer Cemetery in Flat Gap.
