HENRY SALYER, son of RACHEL CONLEY and JOHN M. SALYER, was born May 13, 1857 in Johnson County, Kentucky. He married NANCY J. LARK, daughter of MICHAEL LARK JR. and ELIZABETH (unknown last name). She was born about 1856 in Virginia.

Notes: Nancy Lark's mother was reportedly a woman by the name of Elizabeth Simerman. In 1850 her father's wife's name is listed as Elizabeth and she's born in Tennessee. In 1860 it's Elvina (b. Virginia), and in 1870 it's Luvina (b. Virginia).

Henry Salyer reportedly died about 1894 and Nancy Lark Salyer reportedly died about 1884. Their children are found living in the home of their uncle, James E. Salyer, in 1900.

According to Kentucky birth records, Henry Salyer was born May 13, 1857 in Johnson County to John M. Salyer and Rachel Conley.

She was born January 13, 1884 in East Point, Johnson County, Kentucky, died January 3, 1945 in Riceville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Riceville, Johnson County, Kentucky.

Notes: Margaret Spears was the sister of Francis Marion Spears, Harriet Spears, and Sarah Spears.

When William Forest Ramey's World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Riceville, Kentucky, that he had a dependent wife and father, and that he was born November 11, 1892 in Volgo, Kentucky. He was found to be short, of medium build, and he had blue eyes and black hair.

According to her death certificate, Margaret Spears Ramey died January 3, 1945 in Riceville from a cholelithiasis [gall stones] operation. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Johnson County, her birth date as January 13, 1884, her marital status as widow, her husband as William Ramey, her parents as Henery Spears (b. Johnson County) and Martha Ellen Moles (b. Johnson County), and the informant as Jerry Spears of Riceville, Kentucky.

According to her obituary, Margaret Spears Ramey (age 60), daughter of Henry and Martha Ellen Moles Spears, was born January 13, 1884 in East Point, died January 3, 1945 at home in Riceville after a year's illness, and was buried in Riceville. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ramey, several years prior. She was survived by 6 brothers, Marion Spears, Jeff Spears, Manuel Spears, John William Spears, and Jerry Moles Spears; and 3 sisters, Mrs. Harriet Spears Conley, Mrs. Mintie Spears Caudill, and Mrs. Sarah Spears Rowe. MARY JANE CONLEY, daughter of ABSALOM CONLEY and MELVINA HAMILTON, was born August 4, 1870 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died May 18, 1947 in Hager Hill, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in the family cemetery at the Middle Fork of Jennies Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky. She married LEVI FRANKLIN BLAIR, son of JOHN L. BLAIR and JANE CAUDILL, December 13, 1885 in Johnson County, Kentucky. He was born in June of 1867 in Kentucky, and died February 26, 1917 in Upper Middle Fork of Jennies Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky.

According to his death certificate, Levi F. Blair died February 26, 1917 in Jennies Creek from the measles and broncho pneumonia. Also on this certificate, his marital status is listed as married, his occupation as farmer, his father as Jno. L. Blair (b. Kentucky), and the informant as Warnie Blair.

According to her death certificate Mary Jane Conley Blair died May 18, 1947 in Hager Hill from coronary occlusion due to arteriosclerosic heart disease. According to her obituary, Mary Jane Blair (age 76), died at the home of a daughter in Collista on May 18, 1947, and was buried in the family cemetery at the Middle Fork of Jennies Creek. AMANDA "MANDY" SLUSHER, daughter of KEZIAH SALYER and SIMEON SLUSHER, was born March 16, 1873 in Kentucky, died March 26, 1911 in Konawa, Seminole County, Oklahoma, and is buried in Violet Springs Cemetery in Asher, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma. She married (1) JAMES HENRY STEELE. He was born about 1872 in Kentucky, and died in Konawa, Seminole County, Oklahoma. She married (2) JOHN SHERMAN WALLACE, son of J. W. WALLACE and RUTH A. (unknown last name), May 14, 1893 in Shawnee, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma. He was born November 12, 1867 in Searcy, White County, Arkansas, died January 14, 1939 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, and is buried in Del City, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma.

Notes: According to descendant Joretta Pickard, Amanda was buried at the feet of her mother.

There was another child in this family - a boy - who was born and died in 1911.

According to their marriage certificate, Mrs. Amanda Steele (age 21) married J. S. Wallace (b. Searcy County, Arkansas, resident of Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma, age 24), son of J. W. Wallace on May 14, 1893 in Shawnee, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma. The witnesses were Robert M. Collier and L. Swaney, and the minister was J. P. Miller.

Information found on findagrave.com shows that Amanda Wallace was born in Violet Springs Cemetery in Asher, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma. No headstone photos are provided.

According to her death certificate, Amanda Slusher Wallace died March 26, 1911 in Konawa, Seminole County, Oklahoma, from uremia and measles. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Kentucky, her age as 39 years 10 days, her marital status as married, her parents as Simeon Slusher (b. Indiana) and Kissey Salliers (b. Indiana), the informant as J. T. Williams of Konawa, and the burial place as Konawa.

     "Martin Preston married first a Lord, and second Nancy M. Brown. Mrs. Preston was born and reared in Tazewell County, Virginia, and it was while visiting friends in Paintsville that she came to know Mr. Preston.
     "South G. Preston was a noted preacher and writer. Angeline and her husband went to St. Louis, Missouri. Thomas Preston died at the age of twenty-five. He and his wife had a daughter, Beatrice, who is Mrs. J. H. Cooper, of Paintsville."

Martin actually married Nancy Marian Laird on May 31, 1854 in Johnson County, as is shown in Kentucky marriage record transcripts. Information found on Johnson County Historical Society's website shows that Nancy died August 21, 1854. Martin then married Julia Brown on November 20, 1856 in Johnson County and she died March 10, 1870. He then married Rachel King. Martin, Nancy, Julia, and Rachel are all buried in Preston Family Cemetery in Paintsville, as are Martin's parents.

According to Kentucky marriage records, Martin Preston (lumber merchant, resident of Johnson County, b. Kentucky, parents b. Kentucky, 1st marriage, age 50), married Rachel Powel (resident of Johnson County, b. Virginia, parents b. Virginia, 1st marriage, age 38) on February 14, 1878 in Johnson County. Martin was on his 3rd marriage and Rachel was on her 2nd.

According to her death certificate, Rachel King Preston died January 24, 1923 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, from breast cancer. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Virginia, her birth date as January 24, 1840, her age as 83, her marital status as widowed, her father as William King, her mother's maiden name as unknown, the informant as F. P. Hager of Paintsville, and the burial place as Paintsville.

According to Florida death record transcripts, Emma I. Preston died in November of 1969 in Dade County.

According to Social Security death record transcripts, James Preston was born April 26, 1881, and died in May of 1966. He received his Social Security card prior to 1951 in Washington D.C., and his last place of residence was in Miami, Dade County, Florida.

FITZPATRICK, daughter of ISAAC FITZPATRICK and MARY B. ADAMS, July 31, 1892 in Johnson County, Kentucky. She was born in June of 1869 in Kentucky. He married (2) (unknown). He married (3) EMILY I. (unknown last name) on October 22, 1908 in Hugo, Choctaw County, Oklahoma. She was born about about 1868 in Indiana, and died before 1940.

She married HENRY EDWARD GRIFFIS, son of JOSIAH "JOE" GRIFFIS and LILLY EATON, about 1908. He was born about 1880 in Mississippi. Henry Griffis married (2) LILLIE GARRETT, daughter of JOE S. GARRETT and MARY L. H. (unknown last name). She was born about 1894 in Alabama, and died before 1930.

Notes: There are reports online that state that both Edith and her daughter died between 1912 and 1918 in Garvin County, Oklahoma.

According to California death record transcripts, Hoyte Glyndell Griffis was born December 15, 1918 in Oklahoma, and died January 19, 1979 in Tulare County. According to Social Security death record transcripts, H. Glyndell Griffis was born December 15, 1918, and died in January of 1979. He received his Social Security card prior to 1951 in California, and his last place of residence was in Lindsay, Tulare County, California.

When Henry Edward Griffis' World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Oklahoma, he stated that he was a farmer, that his closest relative was Lillie Griffis, and that he was born January 15, 1877. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had blue eyes and light-colored hair.

FITZPATRICK, was born July 22, 1895 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, died May 30, 1970 in Hugo, Choctaw County, Oklahoma, and is buried in Springs Chapel Cemetery in Hugo, Choctaw County, Oklahoma. He married NORA RIDGE, daughter of JOHN L. RIDGE and MARY E. CULVAHOUSE, about 1920. She was born June 7, 1901 in Tennessee, and died February 9, 1989 in Hugo, Choctaw County, Oklahoma.

Notes: According to Tennessee marriage records, John Ridge married Mary Culvahouse on January 8, 1891 in Kingston, Roane County.

When Milton Frances Conley's World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Jeter Township, Choctaw County, Oklahoma, he stated that he was a farmer, that he was single, and that he was born July 22, 1895 in Paintsville, Kentucky. He was found to be tall, of medium build, and he had brown eyes and black hair.

Military records show that Melton [sic] F. Conley enlisted as a private in 141st Infantry in Hugo, Oklahoma, and was discharged on February 7, 1919 in Bowie, Texas.

On pages 44 & 131 of the book "Johnson County, Kentucky: A History of the County, and Genealogy of Its People Up to the Year 1927" by Mitchell Hall, it says - on page 44 - that Samuel Leonard Auxier married Jane Wellman and their children were: William Auxier (married 1st Mary Conley, 2nd a Miller), Sam Auxier (went to Indiana), Bell Auxier, Tom Auxier, and James Auxier. On page 131 it says that Mary Conley was born June 5, 1873 and married William R. Auxier.

Auxier (age 90), son of the late Samuel and Jane Wellman Auxier, was a retired farmer and lumber dealer, and a resident of Louisa, Kentucky, at the time of his death. He had moved there 8 years prior after living in Johnson and Lewis Counties. He was born August 4, 1865 in East Point, and died February 22, 1956 in a Louisa hospital following an illness of 6 weeks. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eliza Burgess Miller Auxier, in 1937. He was survived by 1 son, C. R. Auxier (of Newport, Kentucky); 1 sister, Mrs. Ladra Belle Ingram (Connersville, Indiana); 4 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. MARTHA J. "ALICE" CRACE, daughter of TEMPERANCE "TEMPY" CONLEY and PETER C. CRACE, was born April 5, 1876 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died January 31, 1945 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Beaver, Pike County, Ohio. She married (1) JAMES HIRAM FRAZIER, son of WILLIAM J. FRAZIER and ZILPHA LEMASTER, about 1893. He was born in December of 1872 in Johnson County, Kentucky, and died about 1909. She married (2) JAMES P. HALL.

Notes: James Hiram Frazier was the brother of Julia A. Frazier, Elizabeth Frazier, who married Levi Hannah, son of Nancy Fairchild and Ebenezer Scott Hannah, and Mary Ann Frazier.

James Frazier's parents names were confirmed by finding his sister's Kentucky birth record. According to that record, Sarah Frances Frazier was born March 6, 1874 in Johnson County to Wm. J. Frazier (b. Clay County) and Zelphia Lemaster (b. Johnson County).

According to her death certificate, Martha Crace Frazier Hall died January 31, 1945 in Paintsville Hospital from cancer of the stomach. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Kentucky, her birth date as April 5, 1876, her marital status as widowed, her husband as James P. Hall, her parents as Peter Crace (b. Kentucky) and Tempa Conley (b. Kentucky), the informant as Alfred Frazier of Paintsville, Kentucky, and the burial place as Beaver, Ohio.

According to her obituary, Alice Hall, widow of James T. Hall, was a native of Johnson County and a resident of Beaver, Ohio. She died January 31, 1945 in a local Johnson County hospital following an illness of 5 months, and was buried in Beaver, Ohio. She lived in Beaver with a daughter, Mrs. Julia Hall, and was visiting a son, Alfred Frazier in Staffordsville when she became ill. Also listed are Zilpha (wife, born in Kentucky, father born in Kentucky, mother born in Virginia, 44), Mary A. (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 14), Henry H. (son, born in Kentucky, age 10), James H. (son, born in Kentucky, age 8), Sarah F. (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 6), and William E. (son, born in Kentucky, age 3).

On page 47 of the 1900 census for District 41 (Magisterial District No. 4) in Johnson County, Kentucky (dated June 22, 1900), James H. Frazier is listed as the head of the household for house #329, he's a farmer, born in December of 1872 in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, married for 7 years, and he's 28 years old. Also listed are Martha J. (wife, born in April of 1877 in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, married for 7 years, she's given birth to 3 children and all are still living, age 23), William A. (son, born in August of 1894 in Kentucky, age 6), Alfred (son, born in November of 1896 in Kentucky, age 4), and Sanford (son, born in March of 1899 in Kentucky, age 1). They are living next to Martha's brother Joel's wife's family.

On page 28 of the 1910 census for District 76 (Low Gap) in Johnson County, Kentucky (dated May 6, 1910), Martha J. Frazier is listed as the head of the household for house #192, she's a farmer, widowed, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, she's given birth to 7 children and 5 are still living, and she's 37 years old. Also listed are Alexander (son, born in Kentucky, age 15), Alferd (son, born in Kentucky, age 13), Santferd (son, born in Kentucky, age 11), Julia (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 6), and Willerd (son, born in Kentucky, age 1 year 7 months).

On page 22 of the 1920 census for District 30 (Paintsville) in Johnson County, Kentucky (dated January 23, 1920), James Hall is listed as the head of the household for house #83, he's a farmer, born in Kentucky, father born in North Carolina, mother born in Virginia, and he's 62 years old. Also listed are Martha (wife, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, age 42), Dock (son, single, farm laborer, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, age 28), Sanford Frazier (step-son, single, coal miner, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, age 21), and Julia Frazier (step-daughter, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, age 16).
