DAVID M. CONLEY, son of EDMOND D. CONLEY III and ELIZABETH MCCARTY, was born July 6, 1859 in Kentucky, died February 4, 1934 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, and is buried in Allen Collins Cemetery in Johnson County, Kentucky. He married (1) MARY ALICE COLLINS, daughter of PHOEBE RATLIFF and ALLEN COLLINS, July 25, 1883 in Magoffin County, Kentucky. She was born November 30, 1860 in Kentucky, died January 19, 1929 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Allen Collins Cemetery in Johnson County, Kentucky. He met SARAH J. CONLEY. He married (2) SARAH E. "PET" DOLLARHIDE, daughter of WINFIELD DOLLARHIDE and FINETTA JOHNSON, before 1930. She was born in March of 1879 in Kentucky.

Notes: Information on this family can be found on page 28 of "The Conley Clan of Eastern Kentucky," published and sold by The Magoffin County Historical Society. According to that book, "DAVID M. CONLEY b. 6 Jul 1859 d. 4 Feb 1934 m. 23 Jul 1883 at the home of Allen Collins to Mary Alice Collins b. 30 Nov 1860 d. 19 Jan 1929. They had no children. David and Mary Alice are buried in the Collins/Lemaster Cem on Litteral's Fork. At one time they lived at Wheelersburg, KY in Magoffin Co. They owned lots of land and received royalties from their oil wells. Later they lived at Oil Springs in Johnson Co. KY. At one time, David Conley owned the house and property that is now owned by Chalmer and Beatrice Brown Conley on Litteral's Fork in Magoffin Co. KY. David M. Conley m. 2 Sarah Patrick Howes. After David's death in 1934, Sarah Patrick Howes Conley moved to Florida. They had no children. David M. Conley had one child before he was married."

David can be found in census reports but no luck has been had in trying to find Elizabeth Conley, David's daughter, before her marriage. After she married Jim Hall in 1902 the census reports consistently list her as being born around 1887/88 in Kentucky, although the book listed her as being born August 21, 1872, when her father would have been 13 years old.

From Nola Hall, wife of David M. Conley's great-grandson Sam Hall: "I'm going to add a little more about Elizabeth Conley Hall's parents. You know that David M. Conley was her father. Her mother was : Sarah J. Conley, b. May 1861 Tomahawk, Martin Co., Ky, died 1946 Martin County, Ky. I always been told that David M. Conley and his wife was very good to Elizabeth and would have her over to their home. So it sounds like Elizabeth and her father had a good relationship. My sources for Elizabeth's parents were from my father-in-law, Preston Hall, Lee Hall and a great nephew Cecil Conley. Source for Sarah's children from Abner Pennington and Henry C. Conley are from Census and Cecil Conley. Sorry to say that I don't know where I found my sources for Sarah J. Conley's parents or their parents. Might have been "The Conley Clan" Book from Magoffin Co., Ky. or on a site."

The fact that Sarah E. "Pet" Dollarhide was the Sarah who married David M. Conley is based entirely on the evidence presented here. Sarah Dollarhide was married to Electious Fremont Howes, who was the son of John Howes and Jane Young. Her name in the 1900 census was listed as "Pet," which is her name in the first of David M. Conley's obituaries. Her brother Oakley Dollarhide is found living with her in 1910. There are no other Sarah Howes to be found in Kentucky in 1900, 1910, or 1920. According to "The Conley Clan of Eastern Kentucky," Sarah moved to Florida after David died.

According to Kentucky marriage records, Winfield Dollarhide (age 22, born in Virginia, farmer, 1st marriage) married F. Johnson (age 21, born in Virginia, parents born in Virginia, 1st marriage) on March 15, 1875 in Johnson County.

Langely] and daughter of Pikeville, Ky.; and Mr. and Mrs. Eastem of Salyersville, Ky. The funeral was held from the home Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. W. H. Spring of Portsmouth, Ohio, delivered a very comforting message to a large crowd forcefully bringing their attention to the blessed promises Jehovah has given us in His word concerning the deliverance of the human family from the land of the oppressor. It was so consoling, really binding up the broken hearts and comforting those that mourn. The body was laid in the tomb in the family cemetery following a short burial service at the grave by Rev. John Dixon Conley. The Paintsville Furniture Company was the undertaker in charge of the funeral.
