ELICE PENIX, son of WILLIAM HENRY PENIX and ELLA D. BARNETT, was born July 31, 1895 in Falcon, Magoffin County, Kentucky, and died January 7, 1976 in Johnson County, Kentucky. He married (1) GEORGIA PATRICK, daughter of HARRY PATRICK and MARY BAILEY, in 1918. She was born about 1904 in Kentucky. He married (2) ANNA RISNER.

In that book it says that Elice Penix was born July 31, 1895, married Georgia Patrick in 1918, and died January 7, 1976. They had children Vertrice, Helen Dean, and Bertie. Bertie Penix's birth date in that book is the same as the Bertia Penix who was born to Anna Risner, who reportedly married Elice Penix in March of 1927. In 1930, Georgia Patrick had remarried and can be found living with her daughter and her new husband. Elice, Anna, and Bertie couldn't be found. Elice, Ann, and Bertie are found in Powell County in 1940.

Harry Patrick was the brother of June Patrick and Ida Patrick.

Anna Risner was reportedly the daughter of Elmore Smith Risner and Peggy Helton.

Elice Penix was a veteran of World War I.

When Elice Penix's World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Falcon, Magoffin County, that he was single, and that he was born July 31, 1895 in Falcon. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had brown eyes and dark-colored hair.

According to Social Security death record transcripts, Ellis Penix was born July 31, 1895, and died in January of 1976. He received his Social Security card prior to 1951 in Kentucky, and his last place of residence was in Salyersville, Magoffin County, Kentucky.

According to Kentucky death record transcripts, Elice Penix died January 17, 1976 in Johnson County at the age of 80. He was living in Magoffin County at the time of his death.

On page 8 of the 1910 census for District 103 (Ivyton) in Magoffin County, Kentucky (dated April 23, 1910), Harry Patrick is listed as the head of the household for house #69, he's a farmer, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, 1st marriage, married for 10 years, and he's 33 years old. Also listed are Mary (wife, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, 1st marriage, she's given birth to 6 children and all are still living, age 28), John (son, born in Kentucky, age 8), Georgia (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 6), Willie (son, born in Kentucky, age 4), Lulu (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 2), Green (son, born in Kentucky, age 8 months), and Dick (son, born in Kentucky, age 8 months). Georgia's future husband, Ellis, and his family, are in house #98.

On page 2 of the 1920 census for District 78 (Ivyton) in Magoffin County, Kentucky (dated January 10, 1920), Harry Patrick is listed as the head of the household for house #15, he's a farmer, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, and he's 42 years old. Also listed are Mary (wife, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, age 38), John (son, born in Kentucky, age 18), Georgia (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 15), Willie (son, born in Kentucky, age 14), Lula (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 12), Greene (son, born in Kentucky, age 10), and Edward (son, born in Kentucky, age 7).

On page 12 of the 1930 census for District 10-10 (Ashland) in Boyd County, Kentucky (dated April 7, 1930), Georgia Patrick is found living with her 2nd husband. Nick Poulos is listed as the head of the household for house #131, he's a restaurant manager, born in Greece, parents born in Greece, first married at age 26, and he's 29 years old. Also listed are Georgia (wife, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, first married at 23, age 26), and Vertrice I. Penix (step-daughter, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, age 7).

On page 2 of the 1940 census for District 99-6 in Powell County, Kentucky (dated April 2, 1940), Elice Penix is listed as the head of the household for house #17, he's a laborer doing road building, born in Kentucky, he was living in Salyersville, Magoffin County, in 1935, he has a 3rd grade education, and he's 44 years old. Also listed are Ann (wife, born in Kentucky, 4th grade education, age 38), and Bertie (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 12).

On page 12 of the 1940 census for District 58-12 in Johnson County, Kentucky (dated April 24, 1940), Hurley Cantrell is listed as the head of the household for house #103, he's a common laborer for the W.P.A. road project, born in Kentucky, he's living in the same house that he was in 1935, he has 4 years of high school, and he's 26 years old. Also listed is Jewell (wife, born in Kentucky, she's living in the same place that she was in 1935, 2 years of high school, age 26).







JAMES CANTRELL, son of HENRY CANTRELL and RACHEL BLANTON, was born September 2, 1849 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died June 22, 1929 in Flat Gap, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Henry Cantrell Cemetery on Cantrell's Creek in Johnson County, Kentucky. He married LOUISA B. MCKENZIE, daughter of HUGH MCKENZIE and MARTHA WEBB, about 1867. She was born in December of 1849 in Johnson County, Kentucky, and died before 1910, and is buried in Henry Cantrell Cemetery on Cantrell's Creek in Johnson County, Kentucky.

Notes: Louisa B. McKenzie was the sister of William Wallace McKenzie and Barbara McKenzie.

A photo of James Cantrell's headstone shows that it says "James Cantrell - Sept. 2, 1849 - June 22, 1929." A photo of Louisa McKenzie Cantrell's headstone shows that it says "Louisa McKenzie Cantrell - Dec. 22, 1849 - Jul. 15, 1897." Louisa is found living with her family in the 1900 census, so a guess would be that the headstone may have been put in place later. Either that, or the 1900 census was wrong.

Martha Webb's name was determined by finding the Kentucky birth records 2 of her daughters. Lydia Margaret McKenzie was born January 2, 1856 in Johnson County to Hugh McKenzie and Martha Webb, and Barbary E. McKenzie was born October 22, 1861 in Johnson County to Hugh McKenzie (b. Scott County, Virginia) and Martha Webb (b. Scott County, Virginia). Barbra E. McKenzie can be found living with her parents on page 18 of the 1870 census for Flat Gap in Johnson County, Kentucky.

According to his death certificate, James Cantrell died June 22, 1929 in Flat Gap from heart failure with no physician present.       According to his obituary, Harry B. Cantrell (age 80), son of James and Louise McKenzie Cantrell, was a retired school teacher and postmaster and a lifelong resident of Fuget. He was born July 18, 1879 in Johnson County, died June 4, 1960 at home in Fuget, and was buried in Estep Cemetery in Johnson County. He was born November 2, 1889 in Flat Gap, Johnson County, Kentucky, died January 2, 1921 in Low Gap, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Cantrells Creek in Johnson County, Kentucky. She married (2) ED BLANTON, son of ELIAS BLANTON and MINERVA MCCARTY, before 1930. Ed Blanton married (1) HATTIE HOWARD.

When Ireland Frazier's World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Kenwood, Kentucky, that he was married and had 1 child, and that he was born November 2, 1889 in Flat Gap, Kentucky. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had blue eyes and black hair.

Information found on the Johnson County Historical Society's website and a photo of their headstone shows that Ellen Blanton lived from August 24, 1886 to September 26, 1974, and was buried in Blanton-Williams Cemetery in Win, Johnson County, Kentucky, and that Ed Blanton lived from September 14, 1885 to January 18, 1978, and was buried in the same cemetery.

According to her obituary, Ellen Fairchild Blanton (age 85), daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Jane Conley Fairchild, was born August 24, 1889, died September 26, 1974 at a local Johnson County hospital, and was buried in Williams Cemetery in Win, Kentucky. She was survived by her husband, Ed Blanton; 2 sons, Jack Blanton (of Win, Kentucky) and Melvin Blanton (Beattyville); 2 daughters, Mary Cochran (Oil Springs) and Addie Webb (Win); 2 step-sons, John Blanton (Elna, Kentucky) and Jim Blanton (Blaine, Kentucky); 3 step-daughters, Alka Cantrell (Fuget), Della McKenzie (Fuget), and Ethel Curtis (Oil Springs); 17 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 34 step-grandchildren; 84 step-great-grandchildren; and 5 step-great-great-grandchildren. He was born July 13, 1904 in Johnson County, died August 4, 1981 in Louisa Community Hospital, and was buried in Patty Flat Cemetery in Fuget. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Esta Blanton McKenzie on June 1, 1968. He was survived by his 2nd wife, Maye Sparks McKenzie; 5 sons, Elder Eual McKenzie (of Fuget), Ora D. McKenzie (Flat Gap), Eugene McKenzie (Columbus, Ohio), Paul McKenzie (Columbus, Ohio), and Joe Proctor McKenzie (Columbus, Ohio); 3 daughters, Jewell Skaggs (Owensboro), Maxine Sagraves (Lexington), and Hattie Lou Wilson (Keaton); 3 brothers, Willie McKenzie (Fuget), Dolphie (Fuget), and Charlie McKenzie (Columbus, Ohio); 1 sister, Mrs. Delva Wheeler [Delva McKenzie Wheeler] (Waverly, Ohio); 22 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. McKenzie is listed as the head of the household for house #93, he's a farmer, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, and he's 35 years old. Also listed are Loucina [hard to read] (wife, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, age 37), Ova (son, born in Kentucky, age 15), Charles (son, born in Kentucky, age 14), Willie (son, born in Kentucky, age 12), Dora (son [sic], born in Kentucky, age 8), Dopha (son, born in Kentucky, age 5), and Delvie (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 5 months).

On pages 24 & 25 of the 1930 census for District 58-10 (Magisterial District No. 4) in Johnson County, Kentucky (dated April 19, 1930), Ova McKenzie is listed as the head of the household for house #230, he's a farmer, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, first married at age 21, and he's 25 years old. Also listed are Esta (wife, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, first married at 18, age 23), Jewell E. (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 4), Yewell (son, born in Kentucky, age 2)k, and Buell E. (son, born in Kentucky, age 8 months).
