He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had blue eyes and light-colored hair. Not being able to read or write, he signed the card with an "X."

He married ZULA M. LYON, daughter of JAMES LYON and ARMINTA STAFFORD, June 29, 1910 in Johnson County, Kentucky. She was born in October of 1891 in Kentucky.

Notes: Zula Lyon Daniel reportedly died May 17, 1954 in Youngstown, Ohio. She wasn't listed as a surviving sister in her brother Frank's obituary when he died in 1958.

According to his obituary, Frank Lyon (age 73), son of the late James and Arminta Stafford Lyon, was a civil engineer, a lifelong resident of Johnson County, and a resident of Paintsville at the time of his death. He was born June 19, 1885, died July 1, 1958 in a local hospital, and was buried in Stafford Cemetery in Paintsville. He was found to be 5 feet 5 inches tall, he weighed 165 pounds, and he had brown eyes eyes, brown and gray hair, a ruddy complexion, and a scar on his head.

According to his obituary, H. R. Daniel, son of the late Dan and Rebecca Stapleton Daniel, was a resident of Youngstown, Ohio, at the time of his death. He died suddenly on May 14, 1960 at the Panama City, Panama, home of his son, Daniel Owen Daniel. He was preceded in death by his wife, Zula Lyon Daniel, several years prior. She was also from Johnson County. He was survived by 3 sons, Daniel Owen Daniel, Everett Daniel (Youngstown), and H. R. Conley lived from September 3, 1885 to February 7, 1960, and was buried in the same plot in the same cemetery.

He married NORA A. MCKENZIE, daughter of JOHN P. MCKENZIE and (unknown), December 10, 1908 in Staffordsville, Johnson County, Kentucky. She was born in November of 1887 in Kentucky.

Notes: According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, John P. McKenzie (age 19) married Sarah E. Branham (age 18) on February 24, 1881 in Johnson County. Sarah was probably the mother of Nora McKenzie.

When Theodore Stapleton's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Bloomington, McLean County, Illinois, he stated that he was a farm laborer working for R. McKenzie in Towanda, McLean County, that his closest relative was Nora Stapleton of Towanda, and that he was born January 3, 1882. He was found to be tall and slender, and he had brown eyes and black hair.

When Theodore Stapleton's World War II draft registration card was filled out on April 27, 1942 in Bloomington, McLean County, Illinois, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Towanda, Illinois, that the person who would always know his address was Mrs. Jake Shelton of Rushville, Illinois, and that he was born January 3, 1882 in Johnson County, Kentucky. He was found to be 6 feet 1 inch tall, he weighed 175 pounds, and he had brown eyes, gray hair, and a ruddy complexion.

According to his obituary, Theodore Stapleton (age 76), son of Henderson Beecher and Nancy Daniel Stapleton, was a retired farmer and a 48 year resident of Towanda, Illinois, at the time of his death. He was born January 3, 1882 in Kerz, died June 29, 1958 at home in Towanda, and was buried in Zion Cemetery in Towanda. He was survived by his wife, Nora McKenzie, whom he married December 10, 1908 in Staffordsville;; 2 daughters, Mrs. J. R. Shelton (of Carrollton, Illinois) and Mrs. F. J. Fortina (Champaign, Illinois); 2 brothers, Beecher Stapleton (Fayetteville, Ohio) and Forrest Stapleton (Fayetteville, Ohio); and 1 sister, Mrs. Ollie Williams (Williamsburg, Ohio). When Commodore Perry Stapleton's World War II draft registration card was filled out on April 25, 1942 [hard to read] in Berkeley, Alameda County, California, he stated that he was working for Republic Steel Corporation of Cleveland, Ohio in the Rialto Building in San Francisco, California, that the person who would always know his address was Mrs. C. P. Stapleton of 6016 Acacia Avenue in Oakland, California, and that he was born October 23, 1883 in Paintsville, Kentucky. He was found to be 6 feet 6 inches tall, he weighed 220 pounds, and he had brown eyes, brown hair, a ruddy complexion, and a scar on the middle finger of his left hand.

According to passenger lists from the S.S. Santa Paula, Commodore Perry Stapleton (b. October 23, 1883, Paintsville, Kentucky) and Emma Rose Stapleton (b. August 11, 1883, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) left San Francisco on March 6, 1937, and arrived in New York City on March 23, 1937. Their address is listed as 6016 Acacia Avenue in Oakland, California.

According to California death record transcripts, Commodore Perry Stapleton was born October 23, 1883 in Kentucky, and died June 1, 1951 in Alameda County. His father's surname is listed as Stapleton, and his mother's maiden name as Daniel.

She was born October 19, 1867 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died November 11, 1935 in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky, and is buried in the family cemetery in Johnson County, Kentucky. Alifair Castle married (2) WILLIAM JOHNSON. He was born about 1867. She married (3) GROVER CLEVELAND CASTLE, son of ANDERSON CASTLE and FRANCIS DAVIS. He was born April 15, 1884 in Lawrence County, Kentucky, died February 1, 1934 in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky, and is buried in Williams Cemetery in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky.

It appears that Jonathan Stapleton died sometime before 1889, as that's when his wife remarried.

Alifair Castle's 3rd husband was reportedly a man by the name of Clifford Duggan, with Grover Castle being her 4th. This couldn't be verified.

There was reportedly a 3rd daughter born to Johnathan and Alifair and her name was Laura. Laura reportedly was first married to a man by the name of Delbert Justice and then to a man by the name of Calvin Moore. Although this couldn't be verified, there was a Cal Moore who signed the death certificates of both Alifair Castle and her husband, Grover Castle.

According to Kentucky birth records, Lydia L. Castle was born June 2, 1875 in Johnson County to Henderson S. Castle (b. Johnson County) and Eneline [sic] Nichol (b. Johnson County), and Alonzo Castle was born December 10, 1878 in Johnson County to Henry Castle and Emeline Nickell.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Johnathan Stapleton (age 18) married Alifair Castle (age 15) on March 14, 1883 in Johnson County.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, William Johnson (age 22) married Alifair Stapleton (2nd marriage, age 29) on November 2, 1889 in Johnson County.

According to her death certificate, Ollie A. Castle died November 11, 1935 in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky, from carcinoma of the gall bladder. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Johnson County, her birth date as October 19, 1867, her marital status as widowed, her husband as G. C. Castle, her parents as Henderson Castle (b. Kentucky) and Emeline Nichols (b. Kentucky), the informant as Cal Moore of Ashland, and the burial place as the home cemetery in Johnson County.

Notes: When Sherman Nicely's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio, he stated that his closest relative was his daughter [this scan is almost impossible to read], and that his he was born June 5, 1874. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had blue eyes, brown hair, and his right leg was shorter than his left.

According to her death certificate, Mrs. Janette J. Stapleton Nicely died June 10, 1915 in Normal, Boyd County, Kentucky, by committing suicide by drinking bichloride of mercury. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Kentucky, her birth date as August 7, 1886, her marital status as married, her parents as John Stapleton (b. Kentucky) and Alphair Castle (b. Kentucky), the informant as Emma Boldman of Schenectady, New York, and the burial place as Paintsville.

Also listed are Jeannette (wife, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, first married at 21, age 38), Sylvia (daughter, born in Ohio, age 14), Mable J. (daughter, born in Ohio, age 10), David H. (son, born in Ohio, age 8 years 4 months), and Goldy M. (daughter, born in Ohio, age 4 years 8 months).

On page 16 of the 1940 census for District 44-29B (Perry Township) in Lawrence County, Ohio (dated April 29, 1940), Harry Posey is listed as the head of the household for house #151, he's a molder for an iron works company, born in Kentucky, he's living in the same house that he was in 1935, he has a 4th grade education, and he's 48 years old. Also listed are Jeannette (wife, born in Kentucky, 5th grade education, age 48), Mabel (daughter, born in Ohio, age 20), David (son, born in Ohio, age 18), Marie (daughter, born in Ohio, age 14), Gladys (daughter, born in Ohio, age 8), Joseph (son, born in Ohio, age 6), Effie (daughter, born in Ohio, age 4), and David Daniel (father-in-law, widowed, not working, born in Kentucky, he's living in the same house that he was in 1935, 4th grade education, age 72).

CYNTHIA A. RICE, daughter of NANCY CATHERINE SALYER and JAMES RICE, was born about 1870 in Kentucky, and died about 1890. She married CLARK TRIMBLE, son of JOHN GEORGE TRIMBLE and MATILDA VANHOOSE, April 26, 1888 in Magoffin County, Kentucky. He was born April 7, 1868 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died February 5, 1913 in Barnetts Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in J. G. Trimble Cemetery in Johnson County, Kentucky. Clark Trimble married (2) ALABAMA "ALLIE" PELPHREY, daughter of NAOMA SALYER and ALEXANDER JEFFERSON PELPHREY, August 29, 1891 in Johnson County, Kentucky. She was born in December of 1871 in Johnson County, Kentucky, and died July 7, 1963 in Parma, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.

Information on this family can also be found on page 551 of the book "Johnson County, Kentucky: A History of the County, and Genealogy of Its People Up to the Year 1927" by Mitchell Hall. In that book it only says that Clark Trimble married a Pelphrey.

Clark Trimble reportedly had a daughter with his 1st wife, and she was reportedly Loula Trimble, who can be found living with her grandparents in 1900. She reportedly died in 1906.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Clark Trimble married Cynthia A. Rice on April 26, 1888 in Magoffin County at the home of James Rice. The witnesses were James Fitchpatrick and Louisa Caudill, and the minister was L. F. Caudill.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Clark Trimble (2nd marriage, age 23) married Alabama Pelphrey (age 20) on August 29, 1891 in Johnson County.

Information found on the Johnson County Historical Society's website shows that Clark Trimble lived from April 3, 1868 to February 5, 1913, and was buried in John G. Trimble Cemetery in Johnson County, Kentucky, and that Lula Trimble, daughter of Clark and Della Rice Trimble, lived from May 23, 1889 to July 13, 1906, and was buried in the same cemetery. No headstone photos are provided. It appears that Cynthia Rice had a nickname of Della.

According to Ohio death record transcripts, Allie Trimble was born about 1871, and died July 7, 1963 at home in Parma, Cuyahoga County, at the age of 92. She was widowed at the time of her death.

According to his death certificate, Clark Trimble died February 5, 1913 in Barnetts Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky, from "Heart failure from Pneumonia." Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Johnson County, his birth date as April 7, 1868, his occupation as laborer, his marital status as married, his parents as J. G. Trimble (b. Johnson County) and Matilda Vanhoose (b. Ohio), the informant as M. J. Trimble [could be W. J. Trimble] of Barnetts Creek, and the burial place as J. G. Trimble Cemetery.

According to Kentucky death record transcripts, Clark Trimble died February 5, 1913 in Johnson County at the age of 45. He was living in Johnson County at the time of his death.

On page 6 of the 1900 census for District 40 (Magisterial District No. 3) in Johnson County, Kentucky (dated June 2, 1900), Clark Trimble is listed as the head of the household for house #47, he's a farmer, born in April of 1868 in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, married for 9 years, and he's 32 years old. Also listed are Alabama (wife, born in December of 1871 in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, married for 9 years, she's given birth to 4 children and all are still living, age 28), Drusia (daughter, born in June of 1892 in Kentucky, age 7), John P. (son, born in February of 1894 in Kentucky, age 6), Sula (daughter, born in September of 1896 in Kentucky, age 3), and Shelton (son, born in September of 1898 in Kentucky, age 1).

On page 25 of the 1910 census for District 114 (Quincy) in Lewis County, Kentucky (dated May 4, 1910), Clark Trimble is listed as the head of the household for house #147, he's a farmer, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, 1st marriage, married for 19 years, and he's 42 years old. Also listed are Alabama (wife, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, 1st marriage, she's given birth to 6 children and all are still living, age 39), Drucy (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 18), John (son, born in Kentucky, age 16), Sulie (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 13), Shelton (son, born in Kentucky, age 12), Clarence (son, born in Kentucky, age 10), and Pearly (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 4).

On page 8 of the 1920 census for District 67 (Middletown) in Butler County, Ohio (dated January 11, 1920), Allie Trimble is listed as the head of the household for house #25, she's widowed, not working, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, and she's 50 years old. Also listed are Drusa (daughter, single, worker in a tobacco shop, born in Kentucky, age 27), John (son, single, working in a roofing mill [hard to read], born in Kentucky, age 24), and Pearl (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 14).

On page 18 of the 1930 census for District 18-86 (Cleveland) in Cuyahoga County, Ohio (dated April 7, 1930), Allie Trimble is listed as the head of the household for house #15, she's widowed, not working, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, and she's 58 years old. Also listed are Drusa (daughter, single, maid in a hospital, born in Kentucky, age 38), Clarence (son, single, wireman in a steel mill, born in Kentucky, age 29), Pearl (daughter, single, trained nurse, born in Kentucky, age 24), and Jack E. Trimble (grandson, born in Ohio, parents born in Kentucky, age 5).

On pages 26 & 27 of the 1940 census for District 92-140 (Cleveland) in Cuyahoga County, Ohio (dated April 24 & 25, 1940), Allie Trimble is listed as the head of the household for house #285, she's widowed, not working, born in Kentucky, she's living in the same place that she was in 1935, she has an 8th grade education, and she's 68 years old. Also listed are Drusa (daughter, maid in a hospital, born in Kentucky, she's living in the same place that she was in 1935, 8th grade education, age 47), Shelton (son, widowed, crane operator in a steel mill, he's living in the same place that he was in 1935, 8th grade education, age 43), Clarence (son, single, electrician in a steel mill, born in Kentucky, he's living in the same place that he was in 1935, 8th grade education, age 40), and Jackie Trimble (son, born in Ohio, age 14).
