Notes: Information on this family can be found on pages 223 & 413 of "The Conley Clan of Eastern Kentucky," published and sold by The Magoffin County Historical Society. In that book John Conley's grandson, Greene Conley, said that John's name was John Deaton Conley and that he was a fiddler. That book also states that that according to his headstone, John was born February 7, 1822 and died July 13, 1903, and that Leester was born December 15, 1825 and died March 13, 1916.

At the beginning of the oil development and boom in Johnson County, Mr. Stafford had a number of residences erected at Paintsville with the result that he now has control of much real estate in this town, where he still resides.
      A son Jesse Jr. is a business man of Paintsville and a trader in cattle and livestock. Henry G. had a son Earl.

Nancy Ritchie was the sister of Rebecca Ritchie, George W. Ritchie, and David Dudley Ritchie. Dudley Ritchie married Rocelia Litteral, daughter of Elizabeth Louisa "Eliza" Pace and James Wesley Litteral.

Martha Smith was the sister of Ira Smith.

Mary Ann Hale's maiden name was determined by finding the death certificate of her son David Dudley Ritchie.

According to The Conley Clan of Eastern Kentucky, Bluford and his three wives were all buried in the Blanton/Conley Cemetery on Litterals Fork in Magoffin County, Kentucky, but information found on findagrave.com and photos of their headstones show that Will Conley lived from 1864 to 1940, and was buried in Ewing-McClure Cemetery in Jonesville, Lee County, Virginia, and that Bell Conley is buried in the same cemetery - as is their son, Dave, and his wife. Bell's headstone is engraved "OUR DARLING BELL CONLEY MOTHER OF DAVE AND BOON Gone, but not forgotten. No dates are engraved on her headstone.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, William C. Conley married Nancy J. Ritchie on December 1, 1887 in Magoffin County at the home of Andrew Ritchie. The witnesses were Manford Ritchie and James Sparks, and the minister was George Bailey.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, W. L. Conley married Cynthia Bell Sparks on April 16, 1898 in Magoffin County at the home of J. D. Conley. The witnesses were J. D. Conley and Levi Conley, and the minister was J. Pennington.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, William Conley married Martha Smith on 28 December 1908 in Magoffin County at the home of J. W. Hunley. The witnesses were J. W. Hunley and William Hunley, and the minister was J. D. Conley.

According to his death certificate, William B. Conley died September 13, 1940 in West Van Lear from a cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 48. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Magoffin County, his marital status as married, his wife as Martha Smith, his occupation as laborer, his father as Edwin Conley (b. Magoffin County), his mother's maiden name as unknown, the informant as Charlie Conley of West Van Lear, and the burial place as Wheelersburg.

According to his obituary, Will Conley, son of Edward D. and Elizabeth Conley, was born in Wheelersburg, died September 20, 1940 at home in Van Lear at the age of 76 years 3 months and 27 days, and was buried in the Conley Cemetery in Wheelersburg. His 1st marriage was to the daughter of Andy and Mary Ann Ritchie and they had 4 children. Those living at the time of Will's death were Walter, Johnnie, and Kernie. Their sister, Mary, died April 18, 1915. His 2nd marriage was to Belle Sparks. They had 4 children and the 2 that were still living were Dave Conley of Virginia and Boone Conley of Ashland. His last wife was a daughter of John and Polly Smith of Morgan County, Kentucky. They had 6 children, 1 who had already died. Those living were Zella Cantrell (of West Van Lear), Dewey Conley (at home), Lonza Conley (at home), Charley Conley (at home), Wayne Conley (at home), and Sarah Conley (at home). The one who died was Lizzie Conley, who died several years prior. He was preceded in death by all of his brothers and sisters: Steve Conley (Flat Gap), John H. Conley (Ashland), Henry Conley (Litterals Fork, Kentucky), James Conley (Litterals Fork), David M. Conley (Oil Springs), George R. Conley (Paintsville), Martha Salyer (Flat Gap), Jane Fairchilds (Kenwood, Kentucky), Rebecca Jackson (Oil Springs), Mary Prewitt (Whitley County), Lydia Burchwell (Wheelersburg), and a little sister, Susan, who died in infancy. According to her obituary, Martha Smith Conley (age 63), daughter of John and Polly Hunley Smith was a former resident of Van Lear. She was born August 12, 1888 in Morgan County, died March 12, 1953 at the home of her son, Charles Conley, in Auxier, and was buried in the family cemetery in Wheelersburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Will B. Conley, in 1940. She was survived by 4 sons, Dewey Conley (of Auxier), Charles Conley (Auxier), Lonza Conley (Walbridge, Ohio), and Wayne Conley (Marion, Ohio); 2 daughters, Mrs. Zella May Risner (New London, Ohio) and Mrs. Sarah Louise Taylor (Olive Hill); 4 step-sons, Walter Conley (Paintsville), Dave Conley (Ashland), Boone Conley (Ashland), and Kernie Conley (Jackson, Ohio); and 2 brothers, Berry Smith (Ashland) and Lee Smith (Lexington). He was born July 20, 1892 in Johnson County, died June 10, 1968 in Paintsville Hospital, and was buried in the family cemetery in Kerz. He was survived by his wife, Erie Conley, 1 son, Robert F.
