    HENRY CONNELLY JR., son of HENRY CONNELLY and ANN MACGREGOR, was born December 1, 1787 in Guilford County, North Carolina, and died September 8, 1859 in Fennimore, Grant County, Wisconsin. He married SARAH PHILLIPS, August 20, 1810 in Clay County, Kentucky. She was born August 16, 1791 in Georgia.

    Notes: Henry and Sarah lived in Floyd County, Kentucky, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains near Henry's father and other family members, for most of their early lives. Henry served in the Army during the War of 1812 from November 10, 1814 until May 10, 1815. He served as a Private in a Company of Kentucky Militia commanded by Captain L. P. Higdon. Sarah was later granted a pension of eight dollars a month because of his service.

    According to Sarah, they were married by a Baptist minister named Spencer Adams, although no official record of the marriage was ever found. Henry's father, Captain Henry Connelly, died in 1840 and in March or April of 1844, Henry, Sarah and their four youngest children moved "out west" to Wisconsin. Upon arrival in the Wisconsin Territory - Wisconsin wasn't a state until 1848 - Henry filed his claim to 40 acres in the southwestern part of the Territory. On January 22, 1848 he bought a joining 40 acres from Francis Lewis McKensie for the sum of fifty dollars. The farm was located just across the street from the Jacob Borah Cemetery where Henry and Sarah are both buried. Many legal documents concerning the Connellys - his gravestone says "Connely" - are recorded in the Grant County Court House.

    ELIZABETH L. "BECKY" CONNELLY, daughter of HENRY CONNELLY and ANN MACGREGOR, was born April 8, 1789 in Guilford County, North Carolina, and died December 22, 1871 in DeKalb County, Alabama. She married AARON TATE, son of ROBERT TATE, in 1810 in Russell County, Virginia. He was born about 1788 in Lebanon, Russell County, Virginia.

    Notes: Nancy Ann Williams was first married to a man by the name of Tackett. Her maiden name was determined by finding the death certificate of her daughter, Rachel.

Henry Salyer married (2) JERIAH DALE, daughter of REUBEN DALE and TABITHA SELVAGE, about 1881. She was born June 17, 1856 in Johnson County, Kentucky. Jeriah Dale married (1) WILLIAM HENRY "BUD" COLLINS. She married (3) ADAM CRUM about 1907. He was born about 1845 in Kentucky.

He married (1) SUSANNAH MCCARTY, daughter of DAVID MCCARTY and (unknown). She was born about 1816 in Virginia, and died in February of 1860 in Johnson County, Kentucky. Isaiah Conley married (2) MARY ANN "POLLY" MAHAN, daughter of HENRY MAHAN and ELIZABETH BROWN. She was born May 7, 1834 in Floyd County, Kentucky, died July 13, 1915 in Magoffin County, and is buried in the Colvin Cemetery in Johnson County, Kentucky. Polly Mahan married (1) ASA COLVIN about 1851. He was born about 1823 in Floyd County, Kentucky.

    Asa Colvin was reportedly the son of John Colvin and Sarah Fairchild.

    According to Kentucky birth records, Isaiah Conly and Susan McCarty had an unnamed male child that was stillborn on September 2, 1856 in Johnson County, Kentucky. This child's name has been reported to have been William Franklin Conley.

    According to her death certificate, Mary Mahan Conley died July 13, 1915 in Magoffin County from organic heart disease. She was born June 19, 1871 in Kentucky, and died April 18, 1920 in State Fork Road, Magoffin County, Kentucky. Samuel Conley married (2) MARTHA EMILY CAUDILL, daughter of ELIZABETH F. CONLEY and JOHN REED CAUDILL. She was born December 17, 1873 in Salyersville, Magoffin County, Kentucky, died March 3, 1953 in Mt. Sterling, Montgomery County, Kentucky, and is buried in Caudell Family Cemetery in Magoffin County, Kentucky. Martha Caudill married (1) WILLIAM HENRY CONLEY.

    Notes: Samuel Conley reportedly died about 1949.

He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had blue eyes and dark-colored hair.

    According to her death certificate, Mary Caudill Conley died April 18, 1920 in State Road Fork from pulmonary tuberculosis of the lungs. Also on this certificate, her birthdate is listed as June 19, 1871, her marital status as married, her parents as Allen Caudill (b. Kentucky) and Ellen Helton (b. Kentucky), and the informant as Sam Conley of Falcon, Kentucky.

    According to her death certificate, Martha Caudell Conley died March 3, 1953 in Mt. Sterling from acute pulmonary edema. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Salyersville, her birthdate as December 17, 1873, her marital status as widowed, her parents as John R. Caudell and Elizabeth Conley, the informant as Mrs. Dick Lemaster, and the burial place as Caudell Family Cemetery in Magoffin County.

August 29, 1909, Johnson Co. to Frank Castle and Lizzie Preston. Mabel and Burl went on to have 10 children, moved to OH where they raised their family and where they both died and are buried. Dorthy Jackson b. 1911 Johnson, m. Arthur Curnutte, moved to OH, worked and died. No children. Nellie Jackson b. 1913, Johnson Co., moved to OH, got married, raised a son, M. Willie Roberts. As far as I know she is still alive in FLA. Flora died in 1916 and is buried at 54 Pedgion Creek, Oilsprings, KY, along with Alonzo.

    According to "The Conley Clan of Eastern Kentucky," published and sold by The Magoffin County Historical Society (page 533), Granville E. Conley was born June 26, 1860, and died February 9, 1929. He married Sarah Taylor in the home of Ben Taylor in Johnson County on September 2, 1881. She was born June 18, 1866 and died September 21, 1943.

    According to his death certificate, Granville E. Conley died February 9, 1929 in Johnson County from interstitial nephritis. Also on this certificate, his birthdate is listed as June 26, 1860, his marital status as married, his wife as Sarah Conley, his parents as David H. Conley (b. Kentucky) and Nancy Conley (b. Kentucky), and the informant as Mrs. Sarah Conley of Niles, Kentucky.

Johnson County, single, resident of Oil Springs) on November 18, 1919 in Gospel of the Baptist Church in Oil Springs by minister J.D. Conley. Witnesses were George B. Conley and Dona Conley.

    According to her death certificate, Flora Conley Jackson died August 10, 1916 in Johnson County from tuberculosis of the muscles. Also on this certificate, her birthdate is listed as June 22, 1882, her marital status as married, her parents as Granville E. Conley (b. Kentucky) and Sarah Taylor (b. Kentucky), and the informant as Granville E. Conley of Niles, Kentucky.

    MARGARET CONNELLY, daughter of HENRY CONNELLY JR. and SARAH PHILLIPS, was born in August of 1817 in Floyd County, Kentucky, and died May 6, 1856 in Mt. Ida, Grant County, Wisconsin. She married RICHARD CASWELL ADKINS, August 17, 1833 in Morgan County, Kentucky. He was born about 1801 in Tazewell County, Virginia, and died August 20, 1852 in Morgan County, Kentucky. Richard Adkins married (1) NANCY ADKINS, daughter of JOSEPH ADKINS and POLLY BOWEN, March 22, 1821 in Floyd County, Kentucky.

    Notes: Caswell Adkins was a teacher and this family was ready to move to Wisconsin and join the rest of Henry Connelly Jr.'s family when Caswell died. He was buried in Kentucky and then Margaret made the move with her five children, but she died three months after arriving at the home of her parents. She is buried in the Jacob Borah Cemetery and her tombstone reads "Margaret Connely Adkins, Died May 6, 1856, 38 years, 8 mos. 16 days."

He married MAHALA JANE DAVIS, daughter of ELIAS DAVIS and ELIZABETH CURTIS, June 15, 1848 in Johnson County, Kentucky. She was born April 13, 1832 in Floyd County, Kentucky, died March 13, 1914 in Oakview, Boyd County, Kentucky, and is buried in Ashland Cemetery in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky.

    Notes: Mahala Davis was the sister of Bracken Lewis Davis, who married Henry's sister, Polly.

    Elizabeth Curtis' maiden name was confirmed by finding the death certificates of 2 of her children. James M. Davis died March 5, 1916 in Paintsville from "Senility - worn out oll over." On his certificate his birthplace is listed as Kentucky, his birthdate as January 4, 1828, his marital status as widowed, his occupation as farmer, his parents as Elias Davis (b. Virginia) and Betsie Curtis (b. Kentucky), the informant as C.C. Price of Paintsville, and his burial place as "his home." On another son, Bracken Lewis Davis' death certificate her name is listed as Anna. On Mahala Davis' Conley's death certificate it's "(Not Known) Hows." Her name is found as Elizabeth in census records.

She was born April 13, 1832 in Floyd County (now Johnson County), and died March 13, 1914 in Boyd County.

    Notes: Lawrence Conley worked doing road construction and, according to his death certificate, died September 13, 1936 in Denver from an infection that started from dynamite poisoning - not from an explosion but from the handling of the dynamite. The infection started as a small sore in his left nostril and then spread to his face, head, and neck before it killed him. Also on this certificate, his birthdate is listed as August 13, 1902, his marital status as married, his wife as Frankie Conley, his parents as William P. Conley (b.     Notes: William Emerson Blanton has been reported to be the son of James D. Blanton and Margaret Carter - who both died before 1850 - and he's also been reported to be the son of George Washington Blanton and Martha Shepherd. James and Margerets' children were born in Tennessee, making them unlikely parents of William Emerson. William Emerson is living 2 houses away from George and Martha Blanton - both 75 years old - in 1850, but their son, William, was born about 1800 and married (1) Alsey Cantrell and then (2) Mahala Roberson Conley. James D. Blanton and George Washington Blanton were brothers, the sons of John William Blanton and Anne Whitlow. It's possible that William Emerson Blanton is a grandson.

    On page 39 of the 1830 census for Floyd County, Kentucky, there is a George Blanton listed as the head of his household. In this house are 2 males between 10 and 15 years old, 1 male between 30 & 40, 1 male between 50 & 60, 2 females between 5 & 10, 1 female between 10 & 15, 1 female between 15 & 20, and 1 female between 50 & 60. William Emerson would have been under 10 years old and is not found in this house. The William Blanton that married Mahala Roberson Conley would be about 31 years old and the male that's between 30 & 40 could be him. There is no William Blanton listed as the head of the house. There are only 2 George Blantons found in Kentucky, and the other is between 30 & 40 and living in Harlan County.

    On page 59 of the 1840 census for Floyd County, Kentucky, George Blanton is listed as the head of his household. In this house are 1 male under the age of 5, 1 male between 5 & 10, 1 male between 50 & 60, 1 female under 5, 1 female between 5 & 10, and 1 female between 40 & 50. William Emerson Blanton would have been about 17 years old so he's not found in this house. There is 1 other George Blanton in Floyd County in 1840 but he's between 20 & 30 years old.     ISAAC CONLEY, son of THOMAS CONLEY and SARAH FITZPATRICK, was born in October of 1837 in Floyd County, Kentucky. He married RACHEL PENNINGTON, daughter of WILLIAM PENNINGTON and MARTHA BLANTON, October 30, 1858 in Johnson County, Kentucky. She was born October 28, 1838 in Floyd County, Kentucky, died February 11, 1933 in Flat Fork, Magoffin County, Kentucky, and is buried in Conley Cemetery in Wheelersburg, Magoffin County, Kentucky.

    Notes: Rachel Pennington was the sister of Jesse Pennington.

    Rachel Pennington's mother's name was determined by finding Rachel's brother Levi's death certificate. According to this certificate, he died July 27, 1923 in Ophir, Morgan County, Kentucky, from heart dropsy. Also on this certificate, his age is listed as 72, his marital status as married, his parents as William Pennington (b. Kentucky) and Martha Blanton (b. Kentucky), and the informant as Frank Burchett of Ophir, Kentucky.

    Rachel Pennington is 9 in 1850, 16 in 1858, 18 in 1860, 24 in 1870, 32 in 1880, and 55 in 1900. She lists her birth month as October in 1900, but the birth year listed here comes from her death certificate.

    According to Kentucky marriage records, Isaac Conley (single, age 22, b. Floyd County) married Rachel Penington (single, age 16, b. Floyd County) on October 30, 1858 in Johnson County.

    According to her death certificate, Rachel Pennington Conley died February 11, 1933 in Flat Fork from old age. Also on this certificate, her birthdate is listed as October 28, 1838, her marital status as single, her parents as Billy Pennington (b. Kentucky) and Martha Pennington (b. Kentucky), and the informant as James Castle of Wheelersburg, Kentucky.

    On page 80 of the 1850 census for Morgan County, Kentucky (dated August 30, 1850), William Pendleton is listed as the head of the household for house #517, he's a laborer, born in Virginia, and he's 33 years old. Also listed are Martha (born in Virginia, age 34), Clabourn (born in Kentucky, age 12), Rachel (born in Kentucky, age 9), Rebecca (born in Kentucky, age 7), Joshua (born in Kentucky, age 5), George (born in Kentucky, age 3), and Levi (born in Kentucky, age 9 months). The family name is Pendleton here but in the 1860 census it's Pennington.

    LAURA A. CONLEY, daughter of ANDREW JACKSON CONLEY and ELIZABETH JANE NICKELL, was born about 1869 in Kentucky, and died about 1892. She married SHERMAN BLANKENSHIP, son of LEWIS ADKINS and LENNEY BLANKENSHIP, about 1889. He was born in May of 1865 in Kentucky, died November 23, 1934 in Elk Fork, Morgan County, Kentucky, and is buried in the Bailey Graveyard in Morgan County, Kentucky. Sherman Blankenship married (2) SARAH JANE CANTRELL.

    Notes: According to his death certificate, Sherman Blankenship died November 23, 1934 in Elkfork of heart dropsy with a contributing factor of tuberculosis of the lungs. Also on this certificate, his age is listed as about 72, his marital status as married, his wife as Sarah Blankenship, his parents as Lewis Adkins (b. Kentucky) and Lenney Blankenship (b. Kentucky), and the informant as H.F. Bayse.
