    Notes: When Jack Shaver's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 11, 1918 in West Liberty, Morgan County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a farmer in Lenox, Kentucky, that his closest relative was Jose Shaver of Lenox, and that he was born September 5, 1876. He was found to be tall, of medium build, and he had black eyes and black hair.

    According to her death certificate, Josephine Shaver died May 12, 1948 in Cottle from congestive heart failure due to chronic hypertensive heart disease. He was found to be of medium height and slender build, and he had gray eyes and brown hair.

    When Adam Cash Sparks' World War II draft registration card was filled out on April 17, 1942 in Charleson, Kanawha County, West Virginia, he stated that he worked for Koppers Coal Co. in Wharton, West Virginia, that his closest relative was Mrs. Opal Sparks of Wharton, and that he was born October 27, 1896 in Magoffin County, Kentucky. He married JULIA ANN RIGSBY, daughter of MILES T. RIGSBY and MARTHA SEGRAVES, July 18, 1881. She was born in December of 1858 in Lawrence County, Kentucky, and died November 9, 1911 in Greenfield, Highland County, Ohio.

    Notes: Samuel Blanton was 2 years old when the 1850 census is taken, he claimed to be born in February of 1849 in the 1900 census, and son John wrote that he was born February 27, 1844 on his death certificate. John also claimed that his father is born in Tennessee on that certificate, although the census reports throughout the years show that Samuel was born in Kentucky.

    According to his death certificate, Samuel Blanton died October 19, 1918 in Pennsylvania from mitral insufficiency. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Tennessee, his birthdate as February 27, 1844, his marital status as widowed, his parents as John Blanton (b. REED and ELIZABETH DARCUS RAMEY, January 21, 1861 in Johnson County, Kentucky. She was born December 19, 1843 in Johnson County, Kentucky, and died February 29, 1876 in Johnson County, Kentucky. He married (2) ARMINTA K. WINN, daughter of MAHULDA MEAD and ROBERT WINN, about 1880. She was born December 15, 1858 in Kentucky, died March 18, 1949 in Oil Springs, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Oil Springs, Johnson County, Kentucky.

    Notes: Asa J. Reed was the brother of Eleanor Reed, William Reed, and Mason Reed.

    On her death certificate, Callie Reed is listed as the daughter of James Spradlin and Martha Reed. Martha Reed was James' 1st wife's sister. Other researchers have listed Callie's last name as Spradlin, but as can be seen in the 1880 census, it was Reed and her mother was single. Martha Reed also had another daughter living with her in 1880, but it's unclear who her father is. Callie was born in January of 1874, which means that James first wife probably died before that time. Other reports indicate that Frances Reed Spradlin died February 29, 1876 in Johnson County, but if that's true, and James really is the father of Callie as her death certificate shows, then Callie was born while Frances was still alive. The last child of James and Frances, Andrew, was born in October of 1871. Callie will be listed here as the daughter of James Spradlin and Martha Reed.

    According to her death certificate, Arminta Winn Spradlin died March 18, 1949 in Oil Springs from heart failure. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Kentucky, her birthdate as December 15, 1859, her marital status as widowed, her parents as Robert Win and Hulda Meade, and the informant as Walter Spradlin.

He was found to be tall and stout, and he had blue eyes and light brown hair.

He married ELLEN TRENT, daughter of LORANZO DOW TRENT and MARY PETITT, about 1921. She was born October 6, 1905 in Rowan County, Kentucky, and died September 28, 1985 in Elliottville, Rowan County, Kentucky.

    Notes: According to Kentucky birth record transcripts, there was a Hanzel Slone that was born in 1925 in Rowan County to "Elan Trent." It's unclear if this is the son that's listed as Fonzie in the 1930 census.

    According to Social Security death record transcripts, Ellen Sloan was born October 6, 1905, and died in September of 1985. Her last place of residence was in Elliottville, Rowan County, Kentucky.

(daughter, born in Kentucky, age 3), and Ilean (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 1 year 7 months). Melvin's parents are in house #209.
