According to William Conley's great-grandson, "William Conley was active in local politics in Grayson, Ky. in the 1900s-1910s. He was elected to the offices of Marshal of Grayson and Jailer of Carter County on the Republican ticket. He appears in a few news stories I copied from the library in Ashland last summer. Around 1915 he sort of drops off the radar - all I know of him after that is that he was divorced from Maud Biggs in 1917, married for a third time to Pricy Elswick in the late 20s, divorced her soon after, and died in 1934. He ran a grocery store during and after the time he was in politics."

JAMES MCCLELLAN CONLEY, son of ISAAC CONLEY and RACHEL PENNINGTON, was born in January of 1865 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died August 1, 1929 in Washington Township, Scioto County, Ohio, and was buried in Dry Run Cemetery in Scioto County, Ohio. He married (1) MARTHA HUNT May 15, 1894 in Johnson County, Kentucky. She was born in March of 1868 in Kentucky. He married (2) ELIZABETH (unknown last name) about 1909. She was born about 1891 in Kentucky.

Notes: James and Martha were married in 1894 but there were children in this house in 1900 that were born before this. It's unknown at this time whether Martha was the mother. She will be listed as such until further evidence is discovered. In 1910, James is on his 2nd marriage so it's known that there wasn't another wife before Martha. James hasn't been married a year in 1910 and there are 2 young children in the home. It's unknown if Elizabeth is the mother, but the gap between Mary (1900) and Jiner (1909) suggests that Martha died around 1900 and Jiner and Samuel are the children of James and Elizabeth. It's unknown where Jiner and Samuel are in 1920.

There was an Edna A. Conley who was born on April 15, 1916 in Magoffin County to a Lizzie Mahan. There is an Elizabeth Mahan found in the 1900 census that is the daughter of a W. R. [William] and Mary Mahan. They are found on page 43 of the 1900 census for District 41 (Magisterial District No. 4) in Johnson County, Kentucky in house #307. According to Kentucky marriage records, James M. Conley (b. Johnson County, age unknown), son of Isaac Conley (b. Johnson County) and Cynthia Pennington, married Martha Hunt (b. Johnson County, age unknown) on May 15, 1894 in Johnson County.

According to his death certificate, James Conley died August 1, 1929 in Washington Township from myocarditis and dropsy. Also on this cerfificate, his birthplace is listed as Johnson County, his birth date as 1864, his marital status as married, his wife as Lizzie Conley, his occupation as farmer, his father as Isaac Conley (b. Oil Springs) and Rachel Pennington (b. Oil Springs), the informant as Will Conley of Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio, and the burial place as Dry Run Cemetery.

According to Ohio death records, James Conley died August 1, 1929 in Scioto County.
