Enoch M. Bailey was the brother of Nancy Jane Bailey, Alexander Bailey, John Quincy Adams Bailey, and Narcissus Bailey, 2nd wife of Gilbert Adams.

In this family there is a 1 year old boy named Archie the 1910 census. In 1920 there is nobody named Archie but there is an 11 year old named John W. In 1930 there is a 21 year old son named Wallis. It's unknown where the name Archie came from, but these 3 will all be listed as the same son - John Wallace.

According to his death certificate, John J. Pace died December 18, 1930 in Paintsville from Brights Disease and valvular heart disease. When Dr. Grant Rice's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was practicing medicine in Oil Springs, Johnson County, that his closest relative as Sina Rice, and that he was born December 31, 1872. He was found to be tall, of medium build, and he had blue eyes and dark gray hair.

According to his obituary, "A 1904 graduate of the Louisville School of Medicine, Dr. Grant Rice, died in a Huntington, W. Va. hospital on April 18 1970. The lifelong Oil Springs resident was 97. On April 21 services were held at the Oil Springs Methodist Church, with Lonza Reed and Frank Spillman presiding. The Paintsville Funeral Home took charge of burial at the family cemetery nearby. Dr. Rice, a 32nd Degree Mason, was born almost a century ago to John and Polly Salyer Rice of Johnson County. He married the late Sina Caudill Rice. Survivng sons are Wayne, Wade and Carl Rice from Oil Springs. Others still living include a daughter from Oil Springs, Mrs. Hazel Rice, 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren." According to her obituary, Sina Caudill Rice (age 81), daughter of Stephen and Jenice Fairchild Caudill, was born June 27, 1875 in Johnson County, died March 17, 1957 at home in Oil Springs, and was buried in Rice Cemetery in Oil Springs. She was survived by her husband, Dr. Grant Rice, whom she married in 1897; 3 sons, Wayne Rice, Wade Rice, and Carl Rice (all of Oil Springs); 1 daughter, Mrs. Eschel Rice (Oil Springs); 1 brother, Ben Caudill (Fairborn, Ohio); 13 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, George W. Auxier married Angelina Prater December 3, 1865 in Magoffin County. The witnesses were John Prater and John Wilson, and the minister was John Howe.

According to Kentucky death record transcripts, Wilson Rice died February 24, 1964 in Johnson County at the age of 91.

According to her death certificate, Sarah Gemima Auxier Rice died March 18, 1941 in Paintsville from a ruptured appendix. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Hager Hill, her age as 73 years, 5 months, and 17 days, her marital status as married, her husband as Wilson Rice, his age as 75, her parents as Geo. According to her obituary, "Jemina" Auxier Rice (age 75), daughter of the late George W. and Angeline Prater Auxier, was born September 20, 1895 in Mashfork, and died March 18, 1941 at home in Barnetts Creek. She married Wilson Rice on January 11, 1895, and they had 13 children, all of whom survived her. They were Minnie Hitchcock, Malta Pelphrey, Ellen Rice, Walter Rice, Della Rice, Martin Rice, Millard Rice, Dixie Sherman, Mary Rice, Martha Turner, Harvey Rice, Anna May Lemaster, and Virgene Litteral. According to Army enlistment records, Jesse Salyer, a 23-year-old farmer from Barnetts Creek, enlisted in the 6th Infantry of the U.S. Army on January 29, 1891 in Lexington, Kentucky. He was 5 feet 10 inches tall, he had blue eyes, brown hair, and a light complexion. He was discharged on February 15, 1891 in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky, with an unnamed disability.

According to her death certificate, Ellen Salyer died June 22, 1932 in Barnetts Creek from a ruptered gall bladder. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Kentucky, her birth date as November 30, 1875, her marital status as married, her husband as David J. Salyer, her parents as John J. Rice (b. When Walter Spradlin's World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Oil Springs, Johnson County, that he was married, that he should be exempt from the draft because he had rheumatism, and that he was born December 26, 1891 in Wheelersburg, Kentucky. He was found to be tall and stout, and he had blue eyes and light-colored hair.

According to Social Security death record transcripts, Nola Spradlin was born November 26, 1892, and died in November of 1978. She received her Social Security card prior to 1951 in Ohio, her last place of residence was in Mount Sterling, Madison County, Ohio, and her last benefit was paid out in Orient, Pickaway County, Ohio.

According to Ohio death record transcripts, Nola Spradlin was born about 1893, and died November 12, 1978 in Mt. Carmel Medical Center in Columbus, Franklin County, at the age of 85. She was widowed at the time of her death.

Notes: Information on this family can be found on page 185 of "The Conley Clan of Eastern Kentucky," published and sold by The Magoffin County Historical Society. In that book it says that John and Dora Adams Salyer "had a large family, most of whom removed to South Bend, Indiana."

Nervesta H. Yates was the sister of Celesta Charlotte Yates, Fitzhugh Lee Yates, and possibly Easter V. Caudill, the wife of John Q.A. Caudill.

Malissa Coleman's maiden name was determined by finding her death certificate and also by finding the death certificate of her son Fitzhugh. According to her death certificate, Malissa Coleman Yates was born March 26, 1849 (although she's 2 years old in the 1850 census), died January 11, 1929 in Oil Springs, Johnson County, and is buried in Oil Springs. Her parents are listed as Peter and Hester Coleman. Hester's last name is hard to read. The transcript shows her last name to be "Bune". Alexander Yates died in Oil Springs in 1919 and there isn't any info on his death certificate that is useful.

Alexander Yates was the son of James and Elizabeth Yates, who moved their family from Virginia to Floyd County, Kentucky, in the early 1840s.

According to Kentucky birth record transcripts, there was a Opal J. Salyer that was born in 1929 in Johnson County to a "Dord" Adams.

On page 13 of the 1870 census for Precinct 8 in Floyd County, Kentucky (dated June 29, 1870), Alexander Yates is listed as the head of the household for house #90, he's a farmer, born in Virginia, and he's 29 years old. Also listed are Molinsa (born in Kentucky, age 20), Fizhueler (born in Kentucky, age 6), Nervesta (born in Kentucky, age 3), and Celista (born in Kentucky, age 1). They are living close to Alexander's family.

James H. Salyer's middle name was reportedly Henry.

According to his obituary, James H. Salyer (age 93), son of the late James and Allie Blanton Salyer, was a retired farmer and a lifelong resident of Oil Springs. He was born March 27, 1866 in Johnson County, died Friday, October 9, 1959 at home in Oil Springs, and was buried in the family cemetery in Oil Springs. He was survived by 5 sons, Harvie Salyer (of Oil Springs), Dewey Salyer (Logan, West Virginia), Beecher Salyer (Irwin, Ohio), Mitchell Salyer (Springfield, Ohio), and Dee Salyer (Columbus, Ohio); 3 daughters, Cassie Blevins (Waverly, Kentucky), Hazel Hall (Powell, Ohio), and Ethel Mae Salyer (West Liberty, Ohio); 3 brothers, Clint Salyer (Irwin, Ohio), William Salyer (Ivyton, Kentucky), and Sam Salyer (Cleveland, Ohio); 1 sister, Mrs. Minnie Phelps (Portsmouth, Ohio); 60 grandchildren; and 95 great-grandchildren. According to her death certificate, Rebecca Litteral Salyer died April 18, 1949 in Oil Springs from aortic regurgitation. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Kentucky, her birth date as October 4, 1870, her marital status as married, her parents as Wiley Litteral and Rebecca Jane Pace, the informant as James H. Salyer, and the doctor as Grant Rice [Ulysses Grant Rice].

According to her obituary, Rebecca Litteral Salyer (age 78), daughter of Wiley Litteral and Rebecca Jane Pace, was a lifelong resident of Oil Springs. She died April 18, 1949 at home from a heart condition, and was buried in the family cemetery. She was survived by her husband, James E. Salyer; 5 sons, Harvey Salyer (of Oil Springs), Dewey Salyer (Switzer, West Virginia), Deedie Salyer (Columbus, Ohio), Beecher Salyer (Worthington, Ohio), and Mitchell Salyer (Urbana, Ohio); 4 daughters, Mrs. Eru Caudill (Xenia, Ohio), Mrs. Cassie Blevins (Waverly, Kentucky), Mrs. Hazel Hall (Powell, Ohio), and Mrs. Ethel May Salyer (West Liberty, Kentucky); 3 brothers, Luther Litteral, Luster Litteral, and C. According to her death certificate, Louisa Caudill died May 12, 1935 in Oil Springs from carcinoma of the liver. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Kentucky, her birth date as May 12, 1935 [mistake], her age as 67 years 6 months and 5 days, her marital status as married, her husband as Able Caudill, her parents as James Rice (b. Kentucky) and Nancy Jayne Salyers (b. Kentucky), and the informant as Able Caudill of Oil Springs.

According to his obituary, Abel C. Caudill (age 82), son of the late Jack and Rebecca Harris Caudill, was one of a family of 10, all of whom preceded him in death. He was born January 14, 1866 in Johnson County, died April 18, 1948 at home in Oil Springs following a long illness, and was buried in the family cemetery. He was married to Louise Rice in 1880. He was survived by 6 daughters, Mrs. Boe Trimble (of Oil Springs), Mrs. Roy Colvin (Oil Springs), Mrs. Elbert Reed (Oil Springs), Mrs. Arthur Kelsay (Oil Springs), Mrs. James Caudill (Clay City, Kentucky), Mrs. Walter Caudill (Hammond, Indiana); 28 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Judith Lemaster was the sister of Thomas Lemaster, James P. Lemaster, Mary Almeda Lemaster and Zilpha Lemaster.

A photo of their headstone in the Mitchell Price Cemetery in Oil Springs shows that Sarah C. Picklesimer was born December 22, 1873, and died April 25, 1954, and Simon Picklesimer was born November 5, 1872, and died December 4, 1964.

According to Kentucky birth records, Sarah Rice was born December 21, 1874 in Magoffin County to James Rice (b. Floyd County) and Nancy Salyer (b. Floyd County).

When Simon P. Picklesimer's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Oil Springs, Johnson County, that his closest relative was "Sarah C. Picklesimer Wife" of Oil Springs, and that he was born November 5, 1872. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had brown eyes and dark gray hair.

According to Ohio death record transcripts, Simon Picklesimer was born about 1872, and died December 4, 1964 in Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Montgomery County, at the age of 92. He was widowed and living in Dayton at the time of his death.

   Notes: According to Kentucky birth record transcripts, Orval H. Picklesimer was born July 1, 1912 in Johnson County to Sarrah Rice.
   According to his obituary, Orville Picklesimer (age 69), son of the late Simon and Sarah Rice Picklesimer, was a resident of Franklin Furnace, Ohio, at the time of her death. He died April 20, 1982, and was buried in Floral Hills Cemetery in Franklin Furnace. He was survived by his wife, Julia Dills Picklesimer; 5 sons; 2 daughters; and 1 sister.
