OSCAR THEODORE LARSEN FJELDSAA, son of LARS ANDREAS JENSEN and TOBINE BOLETTE OLSDATTER, was born March 29, 1873 in Flekkefjord, Norway, and died November 18, 1958 in Miami, Dade CountyFlorida. He married RUTH HILDUR OCTAVIA LEWIN HIMMERMANN, daughter of FRANS OSKAR LEWIN HIMMELMAN and CAROLINE GUSTUVA FREIEDSTROM, September 9, 1905. She was born October 3, 1880 in Kristiania (Oslo), Norway, and died June 3, 1976 in Miami, Dade County, Florida.

Notes: Oscar's first name has been reported to be Oscar, Oskar, and Osker, and his middle name as Theodore and Theodor.

Oscar Fieldsa's last name in Norway was Fjeldsaa but when he came to the United States it changed to Fieldsa - he found that it was too hard for people to figure out how to pronounce.

As a young man he was a sailor, specifically a ship's carpenter in Norway.

Oscar is listed in the 1900 New York census as living with his brother John. John's birth date is listed as January 1870 and he was already a naturalized citizen, having arrived in the States in 1891. Oscar's record shows that he arrived in 1892, that he was a carpenter, and that his naturalization papers were pending. His birth date is listed as 1873.

When he first came to the United States he lived in Brooklyn, New York. There he became a farmer. He and Ruth had a 10 acre farm in Bellport, where most of their children were born. He also had a farm in Yaphank, about five miles north of Bellport, but he lost that one because of tax debts. The farm in Bellport became overgrown with horseradish. A man by the name of Diamond bought the farm and marketed the horseradish.

Ruth Himmerman came to the United States on the Hellig Olaf in 1904. Her mother and her brother, Charlie, arrived in 1903.

On page 5 of the 1920 census for District 1604 (Port Richmond) in Richmond County, New York (dated January 4, 1920), Oscar and family are found living with his younger brother, and everyone in the house has the last name of Larsen. Helmar Larson is listed as the head of the household for house #34, he owns his house, naturalized citizen, can read and write, can speak English, carpenter for a ship building company, born in Norway, parents born in Norway, and he's 40 years old. Also listed are Dagney (wife, naturalized citizen, can read and write, can speak English, born in Norway, parents born in Norway, age 34), Oscar (brother, married, naturalized citizen, able to read and write, able to speak English, carpenter, born in Norway, parents born in Norway, age 46), Ruth (sister-in-law, naturalized citizen, able to read and write, able to speak English, born in Norway, parents born in Norway, age 39), Olga (daughter, going to school, born in New York, age 13), Gladys (daughter, going to school, born in New York, age 12), Lester (son, going to school, born in New York, age 10), Oswald (son, going to school, born in New York, age 8), Herbert (son, born in New York, age 5), Birger (son, born in New York, age 5), Lucy (daughter, born in New York, age 4), and Dorris (daughter, born in New York, age 2). The name Lucy could have been a mistake. Ruth was born in 1916 so this could have been her.

On page 9 of the 1930 census for District 30-26 (Freeport) in Nassau County, New York (dated April 8 & 9, 1930), Oscar L. Fieldsa is listed as the head of the household for house #103, he's a carpenter, came to the United States in 1893, born in Norway, parents born in Norway, owns his on house that's worth $8,000, there's a radio set in the house, able to read and write, able to speak English, born in Norway, parents born in Norway, first married at age 32, and he's 57 years old. Also listed are Ruth L. (wife, immigrated in 1904, able to read and write, able to speak English, born in Norway, father born in Germany, mother born in Norway, first married at 24, age 49), Oscar ? [with that question mark. This was daughter Olga] (daughter, single, nurse, born in New York, age 23), Gladys (daughter, stenographer in an insurance office, born in New York, age 22), Osvald (son, butcher in a butcher shop, born in New York, age 18), Herbert (son, going to school, born in New York, age 16), Berger (son, going to school, born in New York, age 16), Ruth (daughter, going to school, born in New York, age 14), Doris (daughter, going to school, born in New York, age 12), and Walter (son, going to school, born in New York, age 8).
