When John Clinton Yates' World War I draft registration card was filled out on July 5, 1918 in Riceville, Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a coal miner working for Elkhorn Coal Company in Minnie, Floyd County, Kentucky, that he was living in Riceville, that he was married and had a dependent mother, wife, and child, and that he was born April 6, 1888 in Denver, Kentucky. He was found to be tall, of medium build, and he had blue eyes and black hair.

When John Clinton Yates' World War II draft registration card was filled out in Warsaw, Kosciusko County, Indiana, he stated that he was working for Graden Powell in Prairie Township, Kosciusco County, that he was living in Prairie Township, that the person who would always know his address was Mrs. Sarah Yates of Warsaw, Indiana, and that he was born April 18, 1888 in Claud County, Kentucky. He was found to be 5 feet 10 inches tall, he weighed 165 pounds, and he had blue eyes, gray hair, and a light complexion.

According to her death certificate, Sarah Davis Yates died August 24, 1962 in Packerton, Kosciusko County, Indiana, from coronary insufficiency due to valvular & sclerotic heart disease. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Kentucky, her birth date as May 20, 1889, her marital status as married, her husband as John C. He married (2) SHIRLEY ELSIE BURKE, daughter of NANCY ANN "NANNIE" HORNE and SAMUEL JEFFERSON "JEFF" BURKE. She was born in May of 1900 in Kentucky, died June 10, 1982, and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Allegan, Allegan County, Michigan. According to her death certificate, Amanda Adams Baldridge died December 26, 1947 in Bridgeford, Johnson County, Kentucky, from coronary insufficiency and arteriosclerotic heart disease. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Kentucky, her birth date as April 25, 1870, her marital status as widowed, her husband as James Baldridge, her parents as Joel Adams (b. Kentucky) and Anna Davis (b. Kentucky), the informant as Mrs. Leona Haney of Paintsville, Kentucky, and the burial place as Town Cemetery.

Notes: When Mathew's World War II draft registration card was filled out on April 27, 1942 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was unemployed in Paintsville, that the person who would always know his address was "Arizona Gullet (wife)" of Paintsville, and that he was born June 24, 1891 in Johnson County. He was found to be 5 feet 8 inches tall, he weighed 200 pounds, and he had blue eyes, black hair, and a light complexion.

Information found on the Johnson County Historical Society's website shows that Zora Gullett [sic] died July 10, 1947 at the age of 40, and was buried in Old Town Cemetery in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, that Mathew Gullett lived from June 24, 1890 to July 1, 1971, was buried in the same cemetery, and that Neva VanHoose Gullett died December 14, 1980, and was buried in the same cemetery. No headstone photo for Zona is provided, but there is one for Mathew. His headstone shows that he served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during World War I. Mathew's parents are buried in the same cemetery.

     Chas. Gullett, age 68, died during the early morning hours of Thursday, Jan. 31, at his home in West Paintsville. He had been in bad health for more than a year but during the past month had been critically ill of asthma and his death was not unexpected. He was born in Magoffin County in 1866, but had been a resident of Paintsville for the past 35 years where he was known as a good citizen. He was member of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Paintsville and a regular attendant to all services until prevented by illness. Besides his widow he is survived by four children, Mathew Gullett, Mrs. Cecil Carter, and Mrs. George Kimbler, all of Paintsville, and Mrs. Wilbur Waggoner of Huntington, WV. Also, two brothers, Sherman Gullett and Harrison Gullett of Paintsville. Funeral arrangements had not been made Thursday morning.

"Enoch Davis, well known in Paintsville and vicinity, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. George Estep in Bridgeford Addition Monday night, November 14, after an illness of several weeks from intestinal cancer. He was 66 years of age, having been born July 11, 1874. Mr. Davis moved here from Barnetts Creek with his father, Henry Davis more than thirty years ago. Since that time he has been a familiar figure in all parts of the city doing odd jobs for the good housewives. He was very industrious and had been a hard worker. Though possessed of a small amount of this world’s goods he was ever cheerful and ready to do an act of kindness for anyone. He was patient and honest and was held in the highest esteem by everyone. His passing will bring genuine regret to a large number of Paintsville people. His wife, Lilly Gullett Davis, preceded him in death ten years ago. Besides his sister, Mrs. Estep, with whom he had made his home, he is survived by the following children: Edgar Davis and Mrs. Albert Lemaster of Ohio, and Mrs. Earl Snyder of Pittsburgh, Pa. Short services were held at the Estep home Wednesday afternoon. Burial in the Randolph Cemetery in Southside. The undertaking department of the Paintsville Furniture Company had charge of the burial."

Information found on the Johnson County Historical Society's website shows that Nancy Elizabeth Davis Estep lived from August 26, 1877 to October 31, 1965, and was buried in Dixon Cemetery in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and that George Estep lived from October 9, 1871 to January 23, 1955, and was buried in the same cemetery. No headstone photos are provided.

According to her obituary, Nancy E. Davis Estep (age 88), daughter of Henry and Mary Powers Davis, was a resident of Paintsville. She was born August 26, 1877, died October 31, 1965 in the new hospital in Paintsville, and was buried in the family cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Estep, in 1955. She was survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Virgie Cottle (of Paintsville) and Mrs. Ora McKenzie (Paintsville); 2 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. She was survived by 3 sons, Leo Skaggs (of Martha, Kentucky), Okie Skaggs (Wheelersburg, Ohio), and Jim Skaggs (Columbus, Ohio); 2 daughters, Mrs. Raymond Ison and Mrs. John Rose (Keaton); and 3 brothers, Lige Boggs (Columbus), Garfield Boggs (Sciotoville, Ohio), and Jim Boggs (Sciotoville). Information found on findagrave.com and a photo of her headstone shows that Sarah Cantrell lived from 1862 to 1940, and was buried in Forest Grove Cemetery in Plain City, Madison County, Ohio.

According to Ohio death records, Sarah Cantrell died February 9, 1940 in Franklin County.

He married VESSIE SKAGGS, daughter of JOHN C. B. SKAGGS and SARAH E. BOGGS, October 21, 1910 in Johnson County, Kentucky. She was born in September of 1892 in Kentucky, died April 4, 1972 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio, and is buried in Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Hilliard, Franklin County, Ohio.

Notes: Samuel Cantrell and his brother, Charles, married sisters - the daughters of their father's 2nd wife.

When Sam Cantrell's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio, he stated that he was a trackman in Hilliard, Ohio, that his closest relative was Bessie Cantrell [sic] of Hilliard, and that he was born November 28, 1879. He was found to be tall, of medium build, and he had brown eyes and brown hair. Not being able to read or write, he signed the card with an "X."

When Sam Cantrell's World War II draft registration card was filled out on April 25, 1942 in Worthington, Franklin County, Ohio, he stated that he was working for Marble Cliff Quarry Company, that he was living in Hilliard, Franklin County, that he person who would always know his address was Ray Cantrell of Hilliard, and that he was born November 28, 1879 in Johnson County, Kentucky. He was found to be 5 feet 11 inches tall, he weighed 165 pounds, and he had brown eyes, red hair, and a ruddy complexion.

Information found on findagrave.com and photos of their headstones (photo 2) shows that Samuel Cantrell lived from 1879 to 1979, and was buried in Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Hilliard, Franklin County, Ohio, and that Vessie Cantrell lived from 1892 to 1972, and was buried in the same cemetery. It also shows that Samuel served in the military during the Spanish-American War.

According to Social Security death record transcripts, Sam Cantrell was born November 28, 1879, and died in May of 1979. He received his Social Security card prior to 1951 in Ohio, and his last place of residence was in Hilliard, Franklin County, Ohio.

According to Ohio death record transcripts, Samuel Cantrell was born about 1880 in Kentucky, and died May 10, 1979 in Mt. Carmel Medical Center in Columbus, Franklin County, at the age of 99. He was widowed and living in Hilliard, Franklin County, at the time of his death.

Notes: When James Melvin Diles' World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Marysville, Union County, Ohio, he stated that he was a farm laborer in Plain City, Union County, that his closest relative was Amanda Diles of Plain City, and that he was born December 26, 1883. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had brown eyes and black hair.

When James M. Diles' World War II draft registration card was filled out on April 27, 1942 in Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Chillicothe, that the person who would always know his address was Manda Diles of Chillicothe, and that he was born December 26, 1883 in Elit, Kentucky [sic]. He was found to be 5 feet 10 inches tall, he weighed 220 pounds, and he had brown eyes, gray hair, and a dark complexion.

According to Social Security applications and claims indexes, Manda Cantrell Diles was born January 19, 1882 in West Liberty, Kentucky. Her parents are listed as William Cantrell and Nancy Fyfe.

According to Ohio death record transcripts, Amanda Diles was born about 1881, and died November 28, 1965 in a long-term care facility in Circleville, Pickaway County, at the age of 84. She was widowed and her place of residence is listed as Ross County.
