Her obituary found online, originally published in The Lewiston Tribune:

"Bessie Evans, who passed away peacefully Saturday, March 8, 2008, at her daughter's home in Kooskia, at the age of 100, was born in Antigo, Wis., to Charles and Emma Haney. Later the family moved to Winchester, where she graduated from high school in 1926.

"She had become engaged to and married Bill Evans; they made their home in Dayton, Ohio, where he worked for General Motors, Frigidaire division, and she worked for McCall's magazine in the subscription department until the birth of their two daughters.

"After the war they moved West in 1945, settling in Lewiston. She was Betty Crocker and Martha Stewart all rolled into one. In her 90s she won Best of Show at the Nez Perce County Fair for her geraniums. We could nearly always go to mother's for a bouquet from her garden. Her canning jars were picture perfect. Quite by accident and word of mouth, she had a thriving sewing and alterations business, sewing anything from wedding gowns to tailored suits; she even remodeled some of Anne Bollinger's outfits, Lewiston's opera star. For her three granddaughters' weddings, she tatted heirloom-quality lace for the ring bearers' pillows.

"Mother and Daddy loved to fish Pend Oreille Lake and the rivers with Bud and Neva Haney and also trek to the Oregon Coast each fall. Sometimes she out fished them all!

"Mother enjoyed people; she had an amazing equilibrium for life's ups and downs. With the help of Meals on Wheels, she lived in her own home until after her 100th birthday. She lived an ordinary life in an extraordinary way.

"She had attended Orchards Nazarene Church with her husband and neighbors until she was too frail.

"Bess was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Bill; her brothers, Bud, Vern, Eb and Ken Haney; and her sister, Virginia May. Surviving family are her daughters, Donna Graves of Kooskia and Marilyn Sweeney of Lewiston; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

"If one wishes, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, Box 1711, Lewiston, ID 83501.

"The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mountain View Memorial Garden Chapel in Lewiston.

"She was our rock, our family historian; with her remarkable memory she kept us all informed and grounded. Mother, whatever will we do without you?"

Notes: Her obituary found online, originally published in The Lewiston Tribune:
"I, Bruce Sweeney, have lost my beloved wife and partner, and we, Mark, Emily and Paul, have lost our beloved mother, Marilyn, who passed away at our home in Lewiston after a courageous battle with leukemia.
"Marilyn was born Jan. 4, 1932, at Dayton, Ohio, to Bessie Haney Evans and William C. Evans. She attended Trotwood, Ohio, elementary schools, and in 1945, she and her family moved to Lewiston, where she attended Lewiston High School, graduating in 1950. She attended the University of Idaho at Moscow, graduating in 1954, with a degree in home economics education. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and Phi Upsilon Omicron, the home economics honorary.
"After her graduation, Marilyn taught school in Coeur d'Alene for one year before her marriage Dec. 29, 1955, to 1st Lt. Bruce Sweeney in Lewiston. They lived for two years in Big Springs, Texas, at Webb Air Force base, where Bruce was stationed as a pilot. While living there, Marilyn made many friends that remain so to this day. It was in Big Springs that their oldest son, Mark, was born.
"When Bruce's Air Force duty ended, Bruce and Marilyn moved to Lewiston, where Bruce went into business with his father, Hugh Sweeney, in the family building supply business, Sweeney Supply. In Lewiston, daughter Emily and son Paul were born. For many years, Marilyn was involved with the Lewiston Home Economists group, the Priscilla Whitman Mother's club, the Jaycee-ettes and the Lewiston Service League.
"Bruce served for many years in both the Idaho state House and the Senate. Marilyn was president of the Idaho Legisladies for two of those years. In addition, she served three years on the Northwest Children's Home board. Marilyn taught kindergarten at Trinity Lutheran Church for three years before kindergarten was incorporated into the school curriculum. She also taught Sunday school and Bible school from time to time at the church, where she and Bruce were active members of the Trinity Lutheran family; appreciate all of the loving support their church family has provided throughout the years and in these especially difficult moments.
"Bruce and Marilyn enjoyed classical music, and on two occasions they opened their home for the Washington-Idaho Symphony Christmas open house tours. With an education in home economics, Marilyn appropriately never lost her love of cooking. She loved trying new recipes, and her kitchen is filled with cookbooks.
"Marilyn loved to travel, and she and Bruce made six trips to Europe. The last trip was two years ago with their granddaughter Chivonne. Europe was her favorite destination, but she also visited all 50 states, and also Japan, where she toured the 13th World Boy Scout Jamboree, where Mark was camped, and Australia, Hong Kong and Puerto Rico. Many of the family's summer vacations were spent on pleasure boats sailing the Canadian Inland Passage and San Juan Islands. She especially loved spending time in Roche Harbor and Sucia. Marilyn was a real trooper on these vacations, as many of them were in search of salmon, halibut, prawns, oysters and clams. She enjoyed fishing with her family and all remember the last family vacation, where the whole family spent a week fishing out of a fishing lodge in Baker Point, Alaska.
"Marilyn was a member of Chapter L, P.E.O. for 40 years, during which she held many offices, including president. Marilyn loved and appreciated her many friends in the P.E.O., the walkers group and all the giggles and laughter at Monday morning coffee. She always said, "A day without laughter is a complete waste." Marilyn was ever a gracious lady, a devout believer in Jesus and a biblical scholar. She was an encourager, by spiritual gift and never realized what a difference she had made to others until she received the calls and read the cards and letters sent to her near the end of her life.
"Marilyn was so appreciative, as was the family, of Dr. Midence and the dedicated staff and volunteers at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. She also appreciated the tender loving care of her sister, Donna Graves, her daughter-in-law Rohde, and her daughter, Emily, in her last days.

His obituary found online, originally published in The Lewiston Tribune:
"Bruce Lawrence Sweeney, who passed away Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009, was born Jan. 11, 1932, to Hugh J. and Laurene Jacobson Sweeney, in Helena, Mont. His formative years were spread from Montana, to Idaho, to Washington, as his father moved from town to town, teaching music and starting music programs in the schools, finally settling in Lewiston his sophomore year, where he graduated in 1949. At Lewiston High School, he developed his life-long passion for track and field.
"Bruce then attended and graduated from the University of Idaho, earning a bachelor's of business administration, and became a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He competed all four years in track and field, going on to become Idaho's all-time top scorer, as well as the college's record holder in the 120-yard high hurdles and 220-yard low hurdles. In his senior year he was awarded the Sigma Chi Province Balfour Award, given to the outstanding young man from the Montana, Washington and Idaho chapters for outstanding accomplishments in leadership, activities and scholarship. Bruce loved to sing and formed The Singing Sigs, a barbershop quartet, and he especially cherished his four years singing in the Idaho Vandaleers. Later he sang and competed regionally as a member of The Humble Four quartet, singing tenor.
"Bruce entered flight training at Marana Air Force Base outside of Tucson, Ariz., being commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force, and received his wings in December 1955 at Webb Air Force Base in Big Spring, Texas, flying T-33 and T-34 fighter jets. By the end of December the same year, he had married his college sweetheart, Marilyn Evans, who a year later gave birth to the first of their three children. He continued to compete in track and field for the Air Force, and was a finalist at the 1956 U.S. Olympic trials in the 400-meter hurdles. After his tour of duty, he returned to Lewiston to join his father in Sweeney Supply, a building supply enterprise, originally begun as a war surplus store. In 1965, he and his father also joined two partners in the formation of Craftwall, Inc., a regional construction company.
"While busy raising a family and managing his various business concerns, Bruce was always civically minded and gave freely and often to the local community and to the state of Idaho. For years, he coached Boys Club football and Little League baseball, was an assistant coach for the LHS junior varsity football team and was recruited to be head track coach at LHS for a year and an unpaid assistant for several more years. He continued as a track meet starter for the school and the Idaho State High School Championships for another 30-plus years, his love of the sport undying.
"He served two terms in the Idaho House of Representatives from 1971 to 1974, then later an additional eight terms in the Idaho Senate, concluding his last two in 1998, where he served as the minority leader. He found time to serve one term on the Lewiston School Board; at one time had been chairman of the Parks and Recreation Board; served on board of AIA, the State Building Code Advisory board, the Idaho Community Foundation Board, the Lutherhaven Church Camp Board, and was the president of the Washington-Idaho Symphony for two years and a board member for 12 years. He also served on the Idaho High School Activities Board. He was president of the Lewiston Civic Theatre when they acquired the present building - he and Harry Wall co-signed on the mortgage. He served as Nez Perce County Democratic chairman in between his stints at the House and Senate. Other boards he served on were the University of Idaho Foundation and the Idaho Transportation Board, which he was still serving up until his passing.
"He and Marilyn attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Lewiston, where they were married and where he directed the church choir for many years. For recreation, he loved to fly airplanes, compete in slow-pitch baseball, and mess around with boats on the Idaho rivers and lakes, in the San Juan Islands and the coastal waters around Vancouver Island. He took his boat, the Cascadia, through these coastal waters and to Alaska several times. He and Marilyn traveled extensively with friends and family. Just a day before passing, he had just completed a week's fishing in Alaska with his two boys and two cousins from Minnesota.
"The family will miss him dearly. May he rest in peace.
"He is survived by his sister, Mary Hill; son Mark Sweeney; daughter Emily Schiller and husband JR Schiller; son Paul Sweeney and wife Rohde Sweeney; and grandchildren Chivonne Mraz and husband Jared Mraz, Ian Sweeney, Anthony Sweeney and Austin Sweeney.
"Preceding him in death were his wife Marilyn on Jan. 27, 2009; his parents, Hugh and Laurene Sweeney; and a sister, Alyce Payne.
"Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church for the restoration of the pipe organ, or to Lewiston High School for the improvements to Sweeney Field at Vollmer Bowl.
