"Mrs. Lillie M. Lewis, 75, died Saturday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Loretta Mathews, 2108 May Ave., following an extended illness.

"She had resided in Muncie for the past 26 years and was a former Ball Brothers employee. She was a member of McCormick View Chapel.

"Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Izez Mays, Ohio, Mrs. Geneva Stamper, Muncie; also two sons, Cletis Ray and Glennis Edward, both of Muncie; a sister, Mrs. Loraine Birchfield, Morehead, Ky.; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

"Services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Parson Mortuary with Rev. Fount R. Childers officiating. Burial will be in the Johnson Cemetery, Elliott County, Kentucky. Friends may call on Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. The body will be taken to the Lane Funeral Home in Moorehead for services on Tuesday."

According to Kentucky birth record transcripts, Orene Johnson was born April 30, 1918 in Rowan County to Lilly Porter.

When "Charles (None) Evans'" World War II draft registration card was filled out on April 27, 1942 in Jasper County, Illinois, he stated that he was working for the W.P.A. in Jasper County, that the person who would always know his address was Irene Evans of West liberty, Illinois, and that he was born January 25, 1889 in Ellit [Elliott] County, Kentucky. He was found to be 5 feet 7 inches tall, he weighed 160 pounds, and he had blue eyes, brown hair, and a light complexion.

According to Ohio death record transcripts, Charles T. Evans was born about 1889, and died August 7, 1958 at home in Scioto County at the age of 69. He was married at the time of his death.

On August 12, 1958, Rachel Linville Evans of Lucasville, Ohio, filled out an application for a veteran headstone for Charles Evans. On that application it shows that Charles served from February 25, 1918 to August 15, 1919, and was honorably discharged. He served in Co. G. 26th Infantry. It also shows that he was born January 25, 1889, died August 7, 1958, and was buried in Lucasville Cemetery in Lucasville, Ohio.

      His obituary, found on the obituary page of the Johnson County Historical & Genealogical Society's website): "Charles Castle, 23, Dies At Fort Custer, Michigan The body of a county youth, Charles Castle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chilt Castle, Van Lear, was shipped to the Paintsville Furniture Company for burial last Friday. Young Castle was a soldier in the U. S. Army stationed at Fort Custer, Mich. He died following an operation for appendicitis performed three days previous. Young Castle was 23 years old and had enlisted in the Army at Paintsville three months ago. Besides his parents he is survived by several brothers and sisters. Funeral services were conducted at the home of a sister, Mrs. Jim King, Van Lear, Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. Burial was made in the Van Lear Cemetery in charge of the Paintsville Furniture Co. Note: This cemetery is also known as the 'Clubhouse Cemetery'."
      According to Michigan death record transcripts, Charley Castle was born March 15, 1918 in Kentucky, died May 6, 1941 in Fort Custer at the age of 23, and was buried in Van Lear Cemetery in Van Lear, Kentucky. He was a soldier, single, and his father is listed as Chilt Castle.

      Notes: According to his obituary, James Castle (age 47), son of the late Chilt and Belle Curtis Castle, was a resident of Columbus, Ohio, at the time of his death. He was born January 2, 1922 in Johnson County, died May 7, 1969 in Cincinnati, and was buried in Salyer Cemetery in Barnetts Creek. He was survived by his wife, Geneva Sturgill Castle, whom he married on December 3, 1938; 5 sons, Charles Castle (of Raymond, Ohio), James D.
