He married LAURA B. STURGILL, daughter of HENRY STURGILL and MARY A. "SARAH" KIMBLER, December 1, 1899 in Johnson County, Kentucky. She was born in March of 1873 in Kentucky. Laura Sturgill married (1) JAMES ALEX H. BLANTON, son of GEORGE WASHINGTON BLANTON and MAHALA ANGELINE NICHOLS, October 19, 1889. He was born about 1871 in Kentucky, and died October 1, 1895.

She was first married to James E. H. Blanton on October 19, 1889, and to this union was born 2 sons and 1 daughter. He died October 1, 1895. Her second marriage was to Amos Pelphrey, whom she married December 1, 1899. He died September 21, 1958. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and 6 brothers and sisters. She was survived by 5 sons, George Blanton (of Portsmouth, Ohio), Leck Blanton (Portsmouth), Fred Pelphrey (Staffordsville), Brooks Pelphrey (Staffordsville), and Vol Pelphrey (Staffordsville); 3 daughters, Chloe Mahan (Staffordsville), Donnie Tackett (Staffordsville), and Grace Dunlap (Detroit, Michigan); 2 sisters, Beechie Howard (Bolts Fork) and Winnie Frazier (Ashland): 48 grandchildren; 92 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
