Notes: Information on this family can be found on page 553 of the book "Honaker Family in America," which was printed in 1998 and put out by the Honaker Family Association. According to this book, "James and his brothers, Martin and John (descendants #15 and 17), are thought to be the three Honakers of the same name who enlisted 13 Jul 1861 as privates in Co. G, 37th Virginia Infantry, C.S.A., at New Garden, Va. James was wounded slightly 25 May 1862 near Winchester, Va.; was listed as deserted as of 11 Oct 1862 on a company muster roll; but was accounted for when he was issued clothing 3 Feb 1863. It is believed by some researchers that James was killed in the Civil War. At this time, his military records do not verify this belief. However, his last child is believed to have been born in 1864, so his death must have occured during the latter years of the war."
