When Curtis Conley's World War I draft registration card was filled out on August 24, 1918 in Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio, he stated that his closest relative was Margaret Conley of Sciotoville, Ohio, that he was born July 2, 1897 (it's July of 1896 in the 1900 census) in Salyersville, Kentucky, and that his father was born in Salyersville, Kentucky. He was found to have light blue eyes and brown hair.

There are reports that say that Catherine Burkhart's mother was Mary Salyer Polke, George Burkhart's 1st wife. According to Kentucky birth records, Catherine's sister, Rebecca, was born October 16, 1853 on Beech Fork in Harlan County to George Burkhart and Catherine Ledington. This was a year after Catherine was born.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, William E. Salyer married Katharine Burkheart July 8, 1869 in Magoffin County.

According to his death certificate, Bud Salyer died January 25, 1936 in Oil Springs from senility. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Kentucky, his birth date as July 26, 1850, his marital status as widowed, his occupation as farmer, his parents as Henry Salyer (b. Kentucky) and Nancey Conley (b. Kentucky), and the informant as Wilson Salyer of Oil Springs.

According to Kentucky death record transcripts, Bud Salyer died January 25, 1936 in Oil Springs at the age of 85.

Daniel Jayne's full name was reportedly Daniel Boone Jayne.

The two daughters of Absolom and Cynthia are found living with Cynthia's parents in 1860, and the two sons are living with their father in the home of his parents.

Melvina Hamilton Conley's maiden name was determined by finding the death certificate of her daughter Mary. Her last name has also been reported to be Rice, so it's possible that she married a Rice prior to marrying Absalom.

According to Kentucky marriage records, Absalom Conley (age 19, born in Floyd County) married Cynthia Ann Jayne (age 15, born in Lawrence County) on December 8, 1854 in Johnson County, Kentucky.

It's hard to read Mary Salyer Conley's parents names on her death certificate, but it looks like it says Jackson Salyer and Polly McCarty. When her brother Levi died from tuberculosis in Little Gap, Johnson County, on October 6, 1915, his parents are listed as Levi Salyer and Polly McCarty. His birth date was 1837. When her brother Benjamin died from chronic interstitial nephritis in Little Gap on March 8, 1918, his father is listed as Levi Salyer (b. Virginia) and his mother's maiden name isn't known. Benjamin's birth date was June 22, 1837.

According to Kentucky birth records, there was an unnamed female born alive July 11, 1876 in Johnson County to Edmund Conly (b. Johnson County) and Mary A. Salyer (b. Johnson County).

According to her death certificate, Mary Ann Salyer Conley died July 16, 1911 in Johnson County from acute nephritis. Also on this certificate, her birth date is listed as 1840, her age as 71, her marital status as widowed, her parents as Jackson Salyer [hard to read] and Polly McCarty [hard to read].

According to Kentucky birth records, Rebecca Conly, daughter of Edmond D. Conly and Elizabeth Carty, was born July 3, 1854 in Johnson County.

According to his death certificate, Elisha Jackson died July 24, 1936 in Ballot from senile dibility. Also in this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Virginia, his birth date as January 31, 1843, his marital status as married, his wife as Louisa Couall, his occupation as farmer, his parents as John Jackson (b. Virginia) and Martha Hall (b. Virginia), and the informant as Jackson Gibson.

According to Kentucky death record transcripts, Elisha Jackson died July 24, 1936 in Johnson County at the age of 93. He was living in Ballott, Johnson County, at the time of his death.

According to his obituary, "Elisha Jackson of Ballot post-office, this county [Johnson], died at his home there July 24. His death was due to infirmities. Mr. Jackson was a veteran of the Civil War and the last surviving Union soldier in this County. Mr. Jackson was twice married and was the father of nineteen children most of whom are living. Besides his widow he is survived by several children. The body was prepared for burial by the undertaking department of the Mountain Furnitur & Hardware Company. Funeral services for the aged man was conducted at the home by Rev. John Collins of Oil Springs. According to her obituary, Louise Caudill Jackson (age 92), daughter of the late Daniel and Mary Saylor Caudill, was a resident of Dayton, Ohio, and was one of the two remaining Civil War widows in the United States. She died November 29, 1972 in Washington Manor Nursing Home in Dayton, and was buried in Millerstown Cemetery in St. Paris, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elisha Jackson, of Oil Springs. She was survived by 1 son, Henry Jackson (of St. Paris, Ohio); and 3 daughters, Mrs. Lucy Caudill (Riceville), Mrs. Rushia Blanton (Oil Springs), and Mrs. Ruby Gullett (Dayton, Ohio). When Frank Jackson's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Riceville, Johnson County, that his closest relative was Cora Jackson of Riceville, and that he was born November 17, 1877. He was found to be short and slender, with blue eyes and red hair.

According to her death certificate, Cora Jackson died July 9, 1950 in Oil Springs from a cerebral hemorrhage due to aortic insufficiency. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Kentucky, her birth date as August 7, 1882, her marital status as married, her parents as Elisha Jackson and Rebecca Conley, the informant as Frank Jackson, the doctor as Grant Rice [Ulysses Grant Rice], and the burial place as Arnett Cemetery in Oil Springs.

According to Kentucky death record transcripts, Cora Jackson died July 9, 1950 in Johnson County at the age of 67. She was living in Magoffin County at the time of her death.

According to his obituary, Frank Jackson (age 89), son of Robert and Elizabeth Salyer Jackson, was a lifetime resident of Oil Springs and a farmer. He was born November 24, 1877 in Johnson County, died January 6, 1967 in a local Johnson County hospital, and was buried in the family cemetery in Oil Springs. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Jackson, on July 11, 1950. He was survived by 2 sons, Carl Jackson (of Oil Springs) and Branch Jackson (Oil Springs); 4 daughters, Mrs. Ada Blair (Oil Springs), Mrs. Ora Mae Kiser (South Charleston, West Virginia), Mrs. Alta Adams (Christiansburg, Ohio), and Mrs. Malta Powers (London, Ohio); 1 brother, John A. James Montgomery's 2nd wife was Nancy Jackson. This was verified by finding the birth records of 2 of her children. William James Montgomery was born May 24, 1856 in Licking, Floyd County, to James Montgomery and Nancy Jackson, and Ben Franklin Montgomery was born October 30, 1859 in Floyd County to James Montgomery and Nancy Jackson.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, James Conley married Cynthia Montgomery on May 18, 1865 in Magoffin County at the home of Lewis Powers. The witnesses were John W. May and William Flint, and the minister was Wallis Bailey.

Nancy Conley Blair reportedly died July 14, 1934 in Barnetts Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky.

According to his death certificate, John Henry Blair died September 21, 1930 in Johnson County from cancer of the liver. Also on this certificate, his birth date is listed as September 20, 1860, his age as 70 years and 1 day, his marital status as married, his parents as John Blair (b. Kentucky) and Jane Caudill (b. Kentucky), and the informant as Lora Blair of Barnetts Creek, Kentucky.

There is no proof that Gracie Lemaster married David Penix, as of yet. On daughter Flossie's birth record, her mother is listed as Gracy Lucaslu. This comes from a transcript and not the actual birth record. David's brother, Washington, married Gracie Lemaster's sister, Mahala. Gracie Lemaster was born in February of 1887 in Kentucky, which makes her the right age. Nothing else can be found of Gracie Lemaster and there is no Gracy "Lucaslu" to be found anywhere.

When David Penix' World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer, that he was married and had 2 children, that he had spent 3 years as a private in the infantry of the Kentucky Guard, and that he was born January 18, 1887 in Salyersville, Kentucky. He was found to be short, of medium build, and he had blue eyes and black hair.

On page 18 of the 1920 census for District 68 (Salyersville) Magoffin County, Kentucky (dated January 20, 1920), David Peonix is listed as the head of the household for house #185, he's a farm laborer, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, and he's 32 years old. Also listed are Gracie (wife, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, age 32), Flossie (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 7), and Orpha M. (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 2).

On page 15 of the 1930 census for District 77-5 (Magisterial District No. 2) in Magoffin County, Kentucky (dated April 11, 1930), David Penix is listed as the head of the household for house #145, he's a farmer, married, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, first married at age 20, and he's 43 years old. Also listed are Flossie (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 17), and May (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 12). David is listed as married but there is no mention of his wife.

Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Magoffin County, her birth date as August 25, 1904, her marital status as married, her husband as Estill Jackson, her parents as Frank Jackson (b. Riceville) and Cora Jackson (b. Riceville), and the informant as Eskill Jackson of Riceville, Kentucky.

According to Social Security death record transcripts, Estill Jackson was born September 25, 1900, and died November 15, 1971. He received his Social Security card prior to 1951 in Kentucky, and his last place of residence was in Burning Fork, Magoffin County, Kentucky.
