HOLDERBY, was born August 23, 1893 in Salyersville, Magoffin County, Kentucky, died September 14, 1945 in Salyersville, Magoffin County, Kentucky, and is buried in Caudill Cemetery in Salyersville, Magoffin County, Kentucky. He married GRACE RICE, daughter of GEORGE WASHINGTON RICE and MARTHA E. MAY, about 1921. She was born in December of 1893 in Kentucky, and died in 1980.

George Washington Rice was the brother of Henry C. Rice, whose daughter, Mabel, married Walter Holderby, William's brother. Henry and George Rice married twin sisters, Mary and Martha May, daughters of William Smith May and Elizabeth Ann Perkins.
Grace Rice may have married a man with the last name of Whitt after William Arthur Holderby died. According to Social Security death record transcripts, Grace Whitt was born December 11, 1893, and died in March of 1980. She received her Social Security card prior to 1951 in Kentucky, and her last place of residence was in Salyersville, Magoffin County, Kentucky. According to Kentucky death record transcripts, Grace R. Whitt died March 17, 1980 in Floyd County at the age of 86. She was living in Magoffin County at the time of her death.
According to Kentucky, marriage records, George W. Rice married Martha E. May on April 9, 1891 in Magoffin County at the home of William S. May. The witnesses were Sam J. May and William S. May, and the minister was C. W. Bailey.
According to his death certificate, George Washington Rice died April 20, 1946 in Gifford, Magoffin County, Kentucky, from cerebral apoplexy. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Magoffin County, his birth date as June 26, his marital status as widowed, his occupation as farmer, his parents as J. J. Rice [John J. Rice] (b. Magoffin County) and Sarah Colvin (b. Magoffin County), the informant as Georgia Fletcher of Gifford, Kentucky, and the burial place as Beech Grove, Kentucky.
When Arthur Holderby's World War I draft registration card was filled out on May 28, 1917 in Gifford, Magoffin County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a farmer working for William Holderby in Wanneta, Kentucky, that he was single, and that he was born August 23, 1894 in Salyersville, Kentucky. He was found to be tall and slender, and he had blue eyes and brown hair.
