He was born December 22, 1846 in Virginia, and died May 10, 1924 in Red Bush, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Johnson Cemetery in Red Bush, Johnson County, Kentucky.

    Notes: According to her death certificate, Catherine Conley Johnson died February 8, 1931 in Red Bush and her cause of death was listed as "I think her condition was due to uremic poisoning from a chronic nephritis." He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had blue eyes and black hair.

    According to Kentucky death record transcripts, there was a Mary C. Hunt that died November 26, 1971 in Pike County at the age of 84.

    According to his death certificate, Jerry Martin Hunt died March 8, 1936 in Pikeville froma fracture of the spine and a crushed chest, caused by an automobile accident. She married BRACKEN LEE DAVIS, son of ELIAS DAVIS and ANNA ELIZABETH CURTIS, November 13, 1856 in Johnson County, Kentucky. He was born September 11, 1838 in Floyd County, Kentucky, died December 1, 1921 in Buffalo, Johnson County, Kentucky, and was buried in Wheeler Cemetery in Johnson County, Kentucky. Bracken Davis married (2) ANNA MOORE about 1910. She was born about 1844 in Kentucky, and died before 1920.

    Notes: Bracken Davis was the brother of Mahala Davis, who married Polly's brother, Henry. His middle name has also been reported to be Lewis, but on his son Bracken Jr.'s death certificate he signs it as Bracken Lee Davis.

He married (1) SARAH ANN WEBB, daughter of EDWARD R. WEBB and JUDITH BUTCHER, in July of 1877 in Virginia. She was born about 1861 in Kentucky. He married (2) MARY JANE BLACKBURN, daughter of GILBERT BLACKBURN and LOUISA WILLIAMSON, December 13, 1883 in Pike County, Kentucky. She was born February 29, 1869 in Pike County, Kentucky, died September 21, 1948, Russell, Greenup County, Kentucky, and is buried in the Davis Family Cemetery in Johnson County, Kentucky.

    Notes: There are reports that state that Elexious Davis and Sarah Ann Webb had a second child by the name of Stella that was born in 1883.

He married VIRGINIA "VIRGIE" HUFF, daughter of WILLIAM HUFF and REBECCA PHELPS, about 1916. She was born in September 12, 1894 in Kentucky, died December 18, 1939 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Davis Branch, Johnson County, Kentucky.

    Notes: When John Powel Davis' World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a day laborer for Consolidation Coal Company of Van Lear, Johnson County, that he had a wife and a child, and that he was born November 16, 1894 in Thelma, Kentucky. He was found to be short, of medium build, and he had brown eyes and brown hair.

    According to his death certificate, J.P. Davis died July 12, 1936 in Prestonsburg from "Suicide by Arsenic Poisoning in Prestonsburg County Jail." Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Johnson County, his birthdate as November 27, 1890, his marital status as married, his wife as Virgie Huff Davis, his parents as E.P. Davis (b. Johnson County) and M.J. Blackburn (b. Pike County), the informant as Bob Davis of Upper Middle Creek, and the burial place as Johnson County.

    According to his obituary, John P. Davis (age "about 44 years"), son of the late Leck Davis and a native of Johnson County, died either July 11th or 12th in 1936 from poisoning himself. He had been having financial problems and had written a number of bad checks, and had been arrested in Floyd County, and sentenced to a long term. He was survived by his wife and 5 children.

    According to her death certificate, Virgie Huff Davis died December 18, 1939 in Paintsville Hospital from general peritonitis. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Kentucky, her birthdate as September 12, 1894, her marital status as widowed, her husband as John Paul Davis, her parents as William Huff (b. Kentucky) and Rebecca Phelps (b. Kentucky), and the informant as Millard Huff of West Van Lear, Kentucky.

He married (1) ALMA CONLEY, daughter of SARAH JANE CONLEY, about 1905. She was born in July of 1882 in Kentucky. He married (2) MARIE DIXON.

    Notes: Thomas Meade's second wife was Marie Dixon, as is shown on his death certificate. There is a Marie Dixon that is living a few houses away from Thomas and Alma's daughter, Alma, in 1930. She is the daughter of Ed Dixon and Lydia Witten. It's unknown if this is the Marie Dixon that married Thomas Meade, but her info from the 1930 census will be added here for future reference.

    When Thomas Floyd Meade's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Niles, Johnson County, that his closest relative was "Alma Meade Wife" of Niles, and that he was born December 9, 1885. He was found to be tall, of medium build, and he had blue eyes and dark-colored hair.

    According to his death certificate, Thomas Floyd Meade died October 17, 1943 in Staffordsville from "Canser of lower lip." Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Kentucky, his birthdate as December 9, 1885, his marital status as married, his wife as Marie Dixon Meade (age 30), his occupation as merchant, his parents as Rhodes Meade (b. Kentucky) and Elizabeth Conley (b. Kentucky), and the informant as Mrs. McDonald Crum of Stambaugh, Kentucky.

    According to his obituary, Thomas F. Meade died Sunday, October 17, 1943 following an illness of several months, and was buried in the family cemetery in Oil Springs. He was survived by his wife, Marie Dixon Meade; 2 sons, Marvin Meade (of Oil Springs) and Morris Meade (at home); 4 daughters, Dixie Meade (at home), Mrs. Dorothy Keaton (Staffordsville), Mrs. Donna Crum (Stambaugh), and Mrs. Alma Fairchild (Baltimore, Maryland); 1 brother, Leck Meade (Salyersville); and 1 sister, Mrs. Haley Conley.

He married MAY ROSE WILLIAMS, daughter of JAMES MONROE WILLIAMS, SR. and MARTHA JANE DEBORD, about 1918. She was born in May of 1899 in Johnson County, Kentucky.

    Notes: In the 1900 census, James Davis' reported birthdate was listed as August of 1887. He claimed that he was born August 23, 1890 when he filled out his World War I draft registration card. On his death certificate, in June of 1929, his age was reported as 39.

    May Williams reportedly married a man by the name of John J. Ross after James died. She reportedly died in October of 1986 in Akron, Summit County, Ohio.

    When James Stuard Davis' World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a miner for the Consolidation Coal Company in Van Lear, that he was single, that he had 2 sisters that he was taking care of, and that he was born August 23, 1890 in Thelma, Johnson County, Kentucky. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had light brown eyes and brown hair.

    According to his death certificate, James S. Davis died June 3, 1929 in Van Lear from shock following a fractured skull caused by a mining accident. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Johnson County, his age as 39, his marital status as married, his occupation as motorman, his parents as Leck Davis (b. Johnson County) and Mary Blackburn (b. Pike County), and the informant as Herbert Davis of Van Lear, Kentucky.

He married (1) CRESEDA "EDITH" HALL, daughter of JOHN MARTIN HALL and SUSAN GOBLE, about 1881. She was born December 25, 1859 in Johnson County, Kentucky. He married (2) TRINVILLA ARROWOOD, daughter of GEORGE ARROWOOD and SAMANTHA C. DILLINGHAM, about 1889. She was born in April of 1870 in Millers Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky, died February 9, 1943 in Buffalo, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in the Davis Cemetery in Meally, Johnson County, Kentucky.

    Notes: There's no absolute proof that Creseda Hall was the Lucretia Hall that married James Davis, but everything fits. Her name is Lucretia in her daughter Loumintie's obituary. Creseda's brother Andrew's son, John, is found living with Loumintie's family in 1910, and next to them in 1920. There is no Lucretia Hall found an any census for Johnson County and Creseda is as close as it gets. Creseda probably died about the time her daughter was born in 1882.

    Creseda Hall was the sister of Andrew Joseph Hall and Martin M. Hall.

    According to Kentucky birth records, Creseda Hall was born December 25, 1859 in Johnson County to John M. Hall and Susan Gobble.

    According to his death certificate, James M. Davis died March 28, 1938 in Buffalo from acute nephritis. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Kentucky, his birthdate as January 20, 1863, his marital status as married, his wife as Trin Arrowood, his parents as Bracken L. Davis (b. Kentucky) and Mary Ann Conley (b. Kentucky), and the informant as George Davis of Meally, Kentucky.

    According to his obituary, James Davis (age 75), a native of Johnson County and a resident of Meally, died March 29, 1938 at home in Buffalo, and was buried in the Davis Cemetery in Johnson County. He was a farmer and blacksmith and had worked for the Consolidation Coal Company in Van Lear for 18 years. After he quit that company, he opened a small mine on his farm and sold coal to the public. "Dock" Hanners (Meally) and Mrs. Everett Johnson (Paintsville); 1 brother, Lonnie Davis (Van Lear); and 3 sisters, Mrs. John Welch (Thelma), Mrs. Asa Meek (Thelma), and Mrs. John Akers (Gnats Creek).

    According to her obituary, Trin Arrowood Davis (age 72), daughter of George and Samantha Dillingham Arrowood, was born on Millers Creek in Johnson County, died at home on Buffalo Creek in Meally on February 9, 1943, and was buried in the family cemetery in Meally. At the time of her death, she was living at her old home place with her son, James Davis Jr., and his family. She was preceded in death, 5 years prior, by her husband. She was survived by 5 sons, James Davis Jr., (of Buffalo), Lee Davis (Wheelwright, Kentucky), John Davis (Paintsville), George Davis (Meally), and Bruce Davis (Boons Camp); 1 daughter, Mrs. Everette Johnson (Paintsville); 1 step-daughter, Mrs. Lou Minty Hannay (West Van Lear); 3 brothers, William Garrett Arrowood (Waverly, Ohio) (whom she had not seen since he moved to Ohio, 30 years prior), Albert Arrowood (Offutt), and Ben Arrowood (Soldier, Kentucky); and 5 sisters, Mrs. Mary Ellen Arrowood Stapleton (Tutor Key), Mrs. Nancy Arrowood Branham (Offutt), Mrs. Harriett Arrowood Ward (Pikeville), Mrs. Alice Arrowood Bayes (Ashland), and Mrs. Vina Arrowood Wells (Pikeville).

    Notes: When Warwick Powers' World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Salyersville, Magoffin County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer, that he was single, that he had a dependant mother, that he had spent 3 years as a private in the State Guard, and that he was born January 29, 1895 in Salyersville. He was found to be of medium height and stout build, and he had blue eyes and light-colored hair.

    When Warwick Powers's World War II draft registration card was filled out on April 26, 1942 in Mansfield, Richland County, Ohio, he stated that he was employed by Empire Sheet an Tin Plate Company in Mansfield, that his closest relative was Mrs. Myrtle Powers (wife) of Mansfield, Ohio, and that he was born January 29, 1895 in Magoffin County. He was 5 feet 6 inches tall, he weighed 180 pounds, and had blue eyes, brown hair, and a light complexion.

    According to Social Security death record transcripts, Myrtle Powers was born November 20, 1895, and died in July of 1975. She received her Social Security card prior to 1951 in Ohio, and her last place of residence was in Mansfield, Richland County, Ohio.

    GRACE AKERS, daughter of LUCINA DAVIS and JOHN C. AKERS, was born in July of 1885 in Kentucky, and died December 30, 1971 in Scioto County, Ohio. She married LEONARD JOHNSON, son of JAMES D. JOHNSON and MAHALA J. LITTERAL, about 1906. He was born September 21, 1883 in Johnson County, Kentucky, and died March 28, 1971 in Lucasville, Scioto County, Ohio.

    Notes: Leonard Johnson's mother's maiden name was determined by finding both the death certificate and the obituary of Leonard's brother, Charles (1881-1949). On his death certificate, Charlie Johnson's parents are listed as J.D. Johnson and Mahala Literal, and in his obituary, Charles Johnson's parents are listed as J.D. and "Magala" Litteral Johnson, and a surviving brother is Leonard Johnson of Wheelersburg, Ohio. Mahala's full name was reportedly Mahala Jane Litteral.

    When Leonard Johnston's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Scioto County, Ohio, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Scioto County, that his closest relative was Grace Johnston of Scioto County, and that he was born September 21, 1883. He was found to be of medium height and slender build, and he had brown eyes and black hair.

    When Leonard Johnson's World War II draft registration card was filled out on April 27, 1942 in Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio, he stated that he was self employed in Wheelersburg, Scioto County, that his closest relative was Mrs. Grace Johnson of Wheelersburg, and that he was born September 21, 1883 in Johnson County, Kentucky. He was found to be 5 feet 8 inches tall, he weighed 140 pounds, and he had brown eyes, black hair, a dark complexion, and a crooked index finger on his right hand.

    According to Ohio death record transcripts, Grace Johnson died at home on December 30, 1971 in Scioto County at the age of 85. She was widowed at the time of her death.

    According to Social Security death record transcripts, Leonard Johnson was born September 21, 1883, and died in March of 1971. He received his Social Security card prior to 1951 in Ohio, and his last place of residence was in Lucasville, Scioto County, Ohio.

    According to Ohio death record transcripts, Leonard Johnson died at home on March 28, 1971 in Scioto County at the age of 87. He was married at the time of his death.

    On page 28 of the 1900 census for District 39 (Magisterial District No. 2) in Johnson County, Kentucky (dated June 15, 1900), James Johnson is listed as the head of the household for house #257, he's a farmer, born in November of 1844 in Virginia, parents born in Virginia, married for 34 years, and he's 55 years old. Also listed are Hala J. (wife, born in December of 1847 in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, she's given birth to 10 children and 9 are still living, age 52), James (son, born in July of 1879 in Kentucky, age 20), Charley (son, born in October of 1881 in Kentucky, age 18), Leonard (son, born in September of 1883 in Kentucky, age 16), and Glen (son, born in March of 1890 in Kentucky, age 10).

    On page 41 of the 1910 census for District 68 (Buffalo) in Johnson County, Kentucky (dated May 16, 1910), Leonard Johnson is listed as the head of the household for house #347, he's a farmer, born in Kentucky, father born in Virginia, mother born in Kentucky, 1st marriage, married for 4 years, and he's 26 years old. Also listed are Gracie (wife, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, 1st marriage, she's given birth to 2 children and both are still living, age 23), Earl (son, born in Kentucky, age 3), and Vergil (son, born in Kentucky, age 1 year 3 months). Leonard's parents are in house #336.

    On page 7 of the 1930 census for District 73-22 (Vernon Township) in Scioto County, Ohio (dated April 14, 1930), Lenard Johnson is listed as the head of the household for house #65, he's a farmer, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, first married at age 22, and he's 46 years old.
