According to his obituary, Crate Davis (age 77), son of the late John D. and Louraine Webb Davis, was a native and prominent resident of Johnson County. He was born March 17, 1873, died October 7, 1950 at home in Flat Gap, and was buried in Davis Cemetery in Flat Gap. He was was first married to Berta Trimble, who preceded him in death in 1908. He later married Gillie Fairchild, who died in 1945. He was survived by 3 sons, Virgil Davis (of Ashland), Burgess Davis (Dayton, Ohio), and Elmon Davis (Flat Gap); 3 daughters, Mrs. Elva McKenzie (St. Albans, West Virginia), Mrs. Ethel Rice (South Shore, Kentucky), and Mrs. Vera Williams (Jackson, Ohio); 2 brothers, Dan Davis (Manila, Kentucky) and Vint Davis (Oil Springs); and 2 sisters, Mrs. Betty Blanton (Staffordsville) and Mrs. Victoria Reed (Staffordsville).
