ELZIE JACK TRIMBLE, son of CLARINDA FRANCES SPRADLIN and JOHN MARK TRIMBLE, was born November 7, 1882 in Kentucky, died September 4, 1942 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Wells Cemetery in Johnson County, Kentucky. He married (1) DELLA BAYES. He married (2) NAOMA "OMA" CRAFT, daughter of NANCY BELLE GULLETT and TOBE CRAFT, December 24, 1914. She was born October 2, 1895 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died September 9, 1955 in Boyd County, Kentucky, and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky. He married (3) IDA (unknown last name). She was born about 1885 in Kentucky. He married (4) CELIA A. (unknown last name).

Notes: According to Joseph Eugene Conley: "Elzie was married six times."

According to the book "The Conley Clan of Eastern Kentucky," published and sold by The Magoffin County Historical Society (page 350), Elzie Trimble first married Della Bayes. He then married Addie Rice. He then married Oma Craft. It's unclear if Addie Rice is actually the Ida that's found married to Elzie in 1930.

According to U.S. Army enlistment records, Elzie Trimble joined Company B of the 29th Infantry in 1901 in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky. He was a farmer, 19 years old, born in Johnson County, he had blue eyes, auburn hair, and he was 5 feet 6 1/2 inches tall. He was discharged on December 4, 1904 in Fort Bliss, Texas. Elzie again enlisted on December 18, 1908 in Columbus, Ohio. On this record he is listed as 5 feet 7 inches tall, born in Johnson County, Kentucky, 26 years old, blue eyes, auburn hair, fair complexion, and he was discharged April 10, 1910 at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indiana. On February 18, 1911, Elzie enlisted again at Fort Thomas, Kentucky. On this enlistment record he was found to be born in Johnson County, he was 28 years and 3 months old, he was a cook, 5 feet 7 inches tall, blue eyes, auburn hair, fair complexion, and he was discharge February 23, 1914 in Fort McDowell. There is a Fort McDowell found just outside of Phoenix, Arizona.

According to his death certificate, Elzie Trimble died September 4, 1942 in Paintsville from acute heart failure. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Kentucky, his birth date as November 7, 1882, his marital status as married, his wife as Celia Trimble, his occupation as "Farmer & Taxi," his parents as John Mark Trimble (b. Kentucky) and Clarandia Frances Spradlin (b. Kentucky), and the informant as Mrs. Elzie Trimble of Paintsville, Kentucky.

According to his obituary, "Elzie 'Jack' Trimble, age 59, died at the Golden Rule Hospital here Friday at 12:20 a.m. He had been in ill health several months with a heart ailment but had been up and about until about three weeks ago. He was taken to the Golden Rule but died from a sudden heart attack which came in the early morning hours last Thursday. Mr. Trimble was a member of a large and prominent family of this county. He was a son of the late John Mark and Clarenda (Spradlin) Trimble. Mr. Trimble was a soldier in the regular Army for more than 17 years. During that time he visited many parts of the world and participated in the Spanish-American War and the Phillippino Insurrection. At the time of his death he owned and operated a number of taxis operating out of Paintsville. The body remained at the funeral home from Friday until Saturday at noon when it was taken to the Trimble home on Second Street where it remained until Sunday. Funeral services were conducted at the Freewill Baptist Church Sunday at 2 o'clock in charge of Rev. John Prater of Salyersville, and Rev. Millard Van Hoose, of Paintsville. Burial was made in the Wells Cemetery in Bridgford. Local taxi drivers acted as pallbearers. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Celia Trimble, three daughters, Mrs. Nora Honeycutt, of Ashland; Mrs. Dorothy Powers, of Burning Forks and Miss Mildred Trimble, Williamson, W. Va. Brothers and sisters surviving are: Mrs. Della Hubbard, Akron, Ohio; Mrs. Shelly Coldiron, Akron, Ohio; Miss Clara Trimble, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Bird Preston, Bruce Trimble and Boone Trimble, Barnetts Creek; W. C. Trimble, Hager Hill; Harry Trimble, Canada,Pike County and Quince Trimble, Georges Creek. Funeral arrangements and burial were in charge of the undertaking department of the Paintsville Furniture Company." On page 18 of the 1930 census for District 10-21 (Ashland) in Boyd County, Kentucky (dated April 7, 1930), Elzie Trimble is listed as the head of the household for house #181, he's a truck driver, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, first married at age 18, and he's 47 years old. According to her obituary, Bertha Howard Fairchild (age 65), daughter of John and Anna Nuckles Howard and a resident of Hager Hill, was born December 6, 1910 in Johnson County, died September 6, 1976 in Paintsville Hospital after an extended illness, and was buried in the family cemetery in Hager Hill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Son Fairchild, and survived by 1 son, James Fairchild; 1 daughter, Mildred Fairchild; and 4 brothers, Tom Howard (of Van Lear), Lewis Howard, Versie Howard (of Waynesville, Ohio), and Ernie Howard. He was born April 15, 1905 in Salyersville, Magoffin County, Kentucky, died March 5, 1951 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, and is buried in Oakland Cemetery in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. She married (2) (unknown first name) CLYDSVALL.

Notes: According to "The Conley Clan of Eastern Kentucky," published and sold by The Magoffin County Historical Society (page 518), Malva Prater was married first to Den May and they had the children Denny May Jr. and Vivien May [sic]. She later married a man with the last name of Clydsvall.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Hamilton May married Miranda Patrick on May 1, 1894 in Magoffin County at the home of Henry Cain. The witnesses were Nancy Patrick and Myrtie Ward, and the minister was J. R. Power.

Notes: According to "The Conley Clan of Eastern Kentucky," published and sold by The Magoffin County Historical Society (page 518), Mabel Prater married Dee Trusty and their children were Geraldine Trusty and Bill Trusty.

When Arnold Dee Trusty's World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Salyersville, Magoffin County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a printer in Prestonsburg, Floyd County, that he was single, that he served 3 years as a private in the Kentucky National Guard, and that he was born June 10, 1895 in Salyersville. He was found to be of medium height and slender build, and he had light blue eyes and light brown hair.

Information found on findagrave.com and photos of their headstones shows that Mabel Prater Trusty lived from 1903 to 1971, and was buried in Berea Cemetery in Berea, Madison County, Kentucky, that Arnold D. Trusty lived from June 10, 1898 to December 4, 1956, was buried in the same cemetery, that Geraldine F. Trusty lived from 1922 to 2013, was buried in the same cemetery, and that Gloria Jean Trusty lived from 1929 to 1939, and was buried in the same cemetery. Arnold's headstone is also engraved with "PVT CO D 335 INFANTRY WORLD WAR I."

On January 2, 1957, Mrs. Mabel Trusty filled out an application for a veteran headstone for Arnold D. Trusty. On that application it says that Arnold served from February 25, 1918 to June 29, 1918, and was honorably discharged. He served as a private in Co D 335 Infantry 84 Div. It also shows that he was born June 10, 1898 died December 4, 1956, and was buried in Berea, Kentucky.

According to Kentucky death record transcripts, Mabel P. Trusty died December 4, 1971 in Madison County at the age of 67.

He married (1) DICIE SHULER, daughter of JACOB SHULER and (unknown), December 3, 1900 in Johnson County, Kentucky. She was born in July of 1874 in Ohio, and died July 19, 1929 in Gallia County, Ohio. He married (2) LORA RICE, daughter of HENRY BASCOM "BASCOM" RICE and FRANKIE FLETCHER. Lora Rice married (1) MILFORD ARMS.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, David Clark Pelphrey (age 21) married Dicie Shuler (age 22) on November 3, 1900 in Johnson County.

When David Clark Pelphrey's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a fireman at a power house in Van Lear, Johnson County, that his closest relative was Dicie Pelphrey in Alice, Gallia County, Ohio, that he was living in Alice, Ohio, and that he was born May 16, 1879. He was found to be tall, of medium build, and he had brown eyes and black hair.

Information found on the Johnson County Historical Society's website shows that Lora Rice Pelphrey lived from January 18, 1895 to January 10, 1955, and was buried in Hager Hill Cemetery. It also says that it is thought that there is a weather-worn headstone by her that is thought to be Clark's.

According to his death certificate, David Clark Pelphrey died January 29, 1950 in Paintsville Hospital in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, from a cerebral hemorrhage. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Kentucky, his birth date as May 16, 1879, his marital status as married, his occupation as retired farmer, his parents as James Milton Pelphrey and Amanda Conley, the informant as Mrs. Lora Pelphrey, and the burial place as Hager Hill Cemetery in Hager Hill, Kentucky.

According to his obituary, David Clark Pelphrey (age 70), son of James Milton and Amanda Conley Pelphrey, was a retired farmer. He was born May 16, 1879 in Johnson County, died January 29, 1950 in a local Johnson County hospital, and was buried in the Hager Hill Cemetery.       Information found on findagrave.com and a photo of his headstone shows that Leslie S. Pelphrey lived from October 6, 1915 to October 26, 1962, and was buried in Pisgah Cemetery in Toro, Sabine Parish, Louisiana.
      On November 7, 1962, Mrs. Joyce M. Pelphrey, "widow," filled out an application for a veteran headstone for Leslie S. Pelphrey. On that application it says that Leslie enlisted as a private in December 12, 1940 in "Provisional Panama Recruit Det.A.C. U.S. Army Air Force, and was honorably discharged on January 17, 1942. He was born October 6, 1915, died October 26, 1962, and was buried in Pisgah Cemetery in Toro, Louisiana. The application was approved and the headstone ordered on December 14, 1962.

In that book it says that Cyrus Conley was born July 17, 1878, married Elizabeth McCloud who was born September 7, 1879, on January 1, 1898, and that their children were Maxie Conley, Vern Conley, and Elvin Conley. It also says "Mr. and Mrs. Conley reside on a farm near Paintsville. Mr. Conley works at the shipping yards at the Paintsville depot. Mrs. Conley is a woman with a jovial nature and has many friends. She is the life of this home."

Elizabeth McCloud's brother, William, married Cyrus Conley's niece, Hattie.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Cyrus N. Conley (age 18) married Elizabeth McCloud (age 18) on January 1, 1898 in Johnson County.

When Cyrus N. Conley's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Paintsville, that his closest relative was Lizzie Conley of Paintsville, and that he was born July 17, 1879. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had black eyes and black hair.

According to his death certificate, Cyrus Newton Conley died November 5, 1944 in Paintsville from cancer. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Kentucky, his birth date as July 17, 1879, his marital status as married, his wife as Elizabeth McCloud, his occupation as carpenter, his parents as Hiram E. Conley (b. Kentucky) and Clarinda Rice (b. Kentucky), the informant as Elizabeth Conley of Paintsville, and the burial place as Collista, Kentucky.

According to his obituary, Cyrus N. Conley of Southside Addition [Paintsville], died November 5, 1944 after an illness of several months, and was buried in the Conley Cemetery in Jennies Creek beside his parents, who were among the earlier settlers of Johnson County. He was survived by his wife, Elizabeth McCloud Conley; 3 sons, Maxie V. Collista Conley (of Paintsville), Vern Conley (Paintsville), and Elvin Conley (Paintsville); 2 brothers, Rev. John E. Also listed is Elizabeth (wife, born in Kentucky, 8th grade education, age 60). They are living next to son Elvin.

CYNTHIA ANN COLLINS, daughter of PHOEBE RATLIFF and ALLEN COLLINS, was born September 25, 1866 in Kentucky, died January 15, 1953 in Oil Springs, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in the Helton Cemetery in Oil Springs, Johnson County, Kentucky. She married GEORGE WASHINGTON HELTON, son of ALLEN HELTON and EMILY "EMMA" HOWARD. He was born January 3, 1864 in Kentucky, died September 4, 1950 in Oil Springs, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in the Helton Cemetery in Oil Springs, Johnson County, Kentucky.

Notes: George Washington Helton was the brother of David Helton.

Allen Helton was the son of George Helton and Malinda Wade, and the brother of George Helton Jr. and Ellen Helton.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Allen Helton (age 23) married Emily Howard (age 16) September 2, 1860 in Magoffin County at the home of William Coffee. The witnesses were Amos D. Coffee and Elizabeth Coffee, and the minister was William Coffee.

According to her death certificate, Cynthia Ann Helton died January 15, 1953 in Oil Springs from thrombosis. Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Kentucky, her birth date as September 25, 1866, her marital status as widow, her parents as Allen Collins and Phoeba Ratliff, the informant as Dewey Helton, and the doctor as Grant Rice [Ulysses Grant Rice].

According to his death certificate, George Helton died September 4, 1950 in Oil Springs from arteriosclerosis. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Kentucky, his birth date as January 3, 1864, his marital status as married, his occupation as retired farmer, his parents as Allen Helton and Emily Howard, and the informant as Dewey Helton.

On page 16 of the 1870 census for Precinct 2 in Magoffin County, Kentucky (dated August 29, 1870), there is an Allen Hylton listed as the head of the household for house #119, but his wife's name is Sarah, and they don't have any children living with them. He's a farmer, born in Virginia, and he's 33 years old. Also listed is Sarah (born in Kentucky, age 25).

On page 7 of the 1880 census for District 126 (Precinct 8 - State Road Fork) in Magoffin County, Kentucky (dated June 5, 1880), Allen Helton is listed as the head of the household for house #58, he's a farmer, born in Virginia, parents born in Virginia, and he's 43 years old. Also listed are Emely (wife, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, age 36), George (son, born in Kentucky, age 16), Eliza A. (daughter, born in Kentucky, age 11), William S.
