He was born October 30, 1843 in Kentucky, died May 8, 1924 in Little Gap, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Davis-Burton Cemetery in Chandlerville, Johnson County, Kentucky.

Surviving are four sons, Alpha Salyers of Sitka, Rennie Salyers of Ashland, Carl Junior Salyers of Dyer, Ind., and Virgil Salyers of South Charleston, W. Va.; a daughter from Sedalia, Ohio, Tera Williams; a brother, P.A. Burton of Stambaugh; one half brother, Russell Burton from Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren."
