RICE, son of WALLACE BAILEY RICE and ELIZABETH BUTLER, was born May 21, 1875 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died June 17, 1952 in Sitka, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Butler Cemetery in Little Mud Lick, Staffordsville, Johnson County, Kentucky. He married (1) ANNA E. AKERS, daughter of JAMES AKERS and NANCY J. BURCHETT, about 1896. She was born in August of 1877 in Kentucky, and died before 1910. He married (2) LIZZIE STAMBAUGH, daughter of SAMUEL J. STAMBAUGH and LOU STAPLETON, about 1910. She was born October 5, 1889 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died October 11, 1918 in Sitka, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in the Stambaugh Cemetery in Johnson County, Kentucky. He married (3) EDNA PICKLESIMER, daughter of BENJAMIN FRANKLIN PICKLESIMER and ELIZA JANE PELPHREY, about 1919. She was born February 12, 1891 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died July 25, 1975 in Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in the Butler Cemetery in Little Mud Lick, Staffordsville, Johnson County, Kentucky.
Notes: When W.R. Rice's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a farmer in Sitka, Johnson County, that his closest relative was Lizzie Rice of Sitka, and that he was born May 21, 1875. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had blue eyes and black hair.
According to his death certificate, W.R. Rice died June 17, 1952 in Sitka from an enlarged heart. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Johnson County, his birthdate as May 21, 1875, his marital status as married, his occupation as farmer, his parents as Wall Rice and Sis Butler, and the informant as "son John Rice."
According to his obituary, Will R. Rice (age 77), son of Mr. and Mrs. Wall Rice, was a farmer, carpenter, and a minister of the Enterprise Baptist Church for 50 years. He was born May 21, 1875 in Johnson County, died June 17, 1952 in Sitka following an illness of one year, and was buried in Butler Cemetery in Little Mud Lick. He was survived by his wife, Edna Picklesimer Rice; 3 sons, J.B. Rice (of Sitka), Charles C. Rice (Urbana, Ohio), and John W. Rice (Paintsville); 3 daughters, Mrs. Edna Fraley (Ypsilanti, Michigan), Mrs. Mildred Fraley (Thealka, Kentucky), and Mrs. Gene Preston (Meally, Kentucky); and one sister, Mrs. Ketty Estep (Georges Creek). Johnson County) and Lou Stapleton (b. Johnson County), the informant as Will Rice of Sitka, Kentucky, and the burial place as Stambaugh Graveyard.
According to her obituary, Edna Picklesimer Rice (age 82), daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Picklesimer, was born February 12, 1891 in Johnson County, died July 25, 1975 following a brief illness, and was buried in Butler Cemetery in Staffordsville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Will Rice. She was survived by two sons, John Rice (of Brooksville, Kentucky) and Charles Rice (Mechanicsburg, Ohio); one daughter, Jean Cutlip (Fairborn); 1 step-son, J.B. Rice (Sitka); 1 step-daughter, Edna Fraley (Michigan); 2 sisters, Rosa Tipton (Springfield, Missouri) and Margarett Melvin (Springfield, Missouri); 5 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Stambaugh is listed as the head of the household for house #452, he's a farmer, born in January of 1863 in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, married for 11 years, and he's 37 years old.
