OSIE DOTSON, daughter of JOSEPHINE "JOSIE" CONLEY and ELZA DOTSON, was born about 1907 in Kentucky, and died before 1940. She married PROCTOR STONE, son of TURNER STONE and DELLA SIZEMORE, about 1923. He was born February 17, 1900 in Kentucky. Proctor Stone married (2) GRACE SALYER.

Notes: Turner Stone was the brother of Artie Stone and Alice Stone.

Osie Dotson reportedly died November 19, 1936 but this couldn't be proven. Her children are found living with her grandparents in 1940, and her husband has remarried.

According to Kentucky birth record transcripts, Landa E. Stone was born in Magoffin County to Grace Salyer.

According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Turner Stone married Dell Sizemore on December 24, 1885 in Magoffin County at the home of Granville Sizemore. The witnesses were Ben Gullett and Charles Lovely, and the minister was John Bailey.

When Prock Stone's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Welch, McDowell County, West Virginia, he stated that he was a concrete worker working for Consolidation Engineering Company in Welch, that his closest relative was "Father Turner Stone" of Magoffin County, Kentucky, and that he was born February 17, 1900. He was found to be short and slender, and he had blue eyes and black hair.

On page 11 of the 1900 census for District 56 (Meadows) in Magoffin County, Kentucky (dated June 6, 1900), Turner Stone is listed as the head of the household for house #88, he's a farmer, born in April of 1858 in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, married for 15 years, and he's 42 years old. When Thomas Sheridan Caudill's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a self-employed farmer in Leander, Johnson County, that his closest relative was Mrs. Amma Caudill of Leander, and that he was born May 23, 1883. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had blue eyes and brown hair.

Information found on findagrave.com and a photo of their headstone shows that Amy Caudill lived from 1887 to 1960, and was buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven, Huron County, Ohio, and that Thomas Caudill lived from 1883 to 1970, and was buried in the same cemetery.

A fall of slate about 17 ft. long and 11 inches thick at the place where Mr. Caudill was working pinned him beneath it, the weight crushing his body. He was native of Riceville and was the son of William and Mary Scalf Caudill. He was a member of the United Baptist Church. Surviving are his widow, Dollie Conley Caudill, one son, Dallas Caudill of Silver Lake, Ind., two daughters, Daisy and Dorothy, at home. One son was a casualty of World War II. Other survivors are three brothers, Frank Caudill, Swamp Branch; Thomas Caudill, Plymouth, O., Archie Caudill North Manchester, Ind., two sisters, Mrs. Cynthia Howard, Garrett, and Mrs. Lizzie Hackworth, Bonanza." He was found to be short and stout, and he had blue eyes and light-colored hair.

When John Hale's World War II draft registration card was filled out on April 27, 1942 in Starke County, Indiana, he stated that he was working for R. and E. According to her death certificate, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Cooper Hale died January 5, 1947 in Jenkins Hospital in Jenkins, Letcher County, Kentucky, from cardiac failure due to nephritis. According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Andrew W. Rice married Dicy Salyer on February 19, 1866 in Johnson County.

According to his death certificate, Andrew W. Rice died December 12, 1912 in Jennies Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky, from cirrhosis of the liver. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Kentucky, his birth date as September 8, 1844, his marital status as married, his occupation as farmer, his parents as Isaac Rice (b. Kentucky) and Celia Conley (b. Kentucky), and the informant as C. L. Lester of Denver, Kentucky.

According to Kentucky death record transcripts, Andrew W. Rice died December 12, 1912 in Johnson County at the age of 68.

According to an index of U.S. veteran's gravesites, Andrew W. Rice lived from 1845 to 1912, and was buried in Ratliff Cemetery in Denver, Johnson County, Kentucky. He was a private in the U.S. Army in the Civil War.

Information found on the Johnson County Historical Society's website shows that Andrew W. Rice lived from April 1845 to 1912, and is buried in Fairchild Cemetery in Denver, Johnson County, Kentucky, with no headstone.

According to her death certificate, Dise Salyer Blair died Januar y1, 1929 in Johnson County, Kentucky, from acute indigestion. Also on this certificate, her birth date is listed as 1846, her age as 83, her husband as John Blair, her father as Dave Salyers (b. Barnetts Creek, Johnson County), the informant as Rhoda Spradlin of Denver, Kentucky, and the burial place as Denver.

According to Kentucky death record transcripts, Dice Blair died January 1, 1929 in Johnson County at the age of 83.

On page 5 of the 1870 census for Barnetts Creek in Johnson County, Kentucky (dated June 23, 1870), Andrew Rice is listed as the head of the household for house #38, he's a farmer, born in Kentucky, and he's 24 years old. Also listed is Dycajane (born in Kentucky, age 22).

On page 26 of the 1880 census for District 45 (Barnetts Creek) in Johnson County, Kentucky (dated June 16, 1880), Andrew W. Rice is listed as the head of the household for house #60, he's a farmer, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, and he's 34 years old. Also listed is Disa J. (wife, born in Kentucky, parents born in Virginia, age 33).

On page 31 of the 1900 census for District 40 (Magisterial District No. 3) in Johnson County, Kentucky (dated June 14, 1900), Andrew W. Rice is listed as the head of the household for house #259, he's a farmer, born in September of 1845 in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, married for 33 years, and he's 54 years old. Also listed is Dicey (wife, born in August of 1846 in Kentucky, parents born in Virginia, married for 33 years, she hasn't had any children, age 53).

On page 12 of the 1910 census for District 73 (Magisterial District No. 3) in Johnson County, Kentucky (dated April 27, 1910), Andrew W. Rice is listed as the head of the household for house #98, he's a farmer, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, 1st marriage, married for 44 years, and he's 64 years old. Also listed are Disa (wife, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, 1st marriage, she hasn't had any children, age 63), and Maud Picklesimer (servant, married, born in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, married for 5 years, she's given birth to 2 children and neither are still living, age 21). Maud Picklesimer was the daughter of Benjamin F. Picklesimer and Eliza Pelphrey.







FLOYD SPRADLIN, son of DELILAH SPRADLIN and JAKE LEWIS, was born May 22, 1881 in Johnson County, Kentucky, died July 21, 1939 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky. He married (1) DOVIE DALE on January 11, 1901 in Johnson County, Kentucky. She was born in March of 1883 in Kentucky, and died before 1920. He married (2) NEVA VANHOOSE about 1928. She was born about 1905 in Kentucky. Neva VanHoose married (2) JOHN MILTON BLAIR.

Notes: According to Kentucky marriage record transcripts, Floyd Spradlin (b. Johnson County, age 21) married Dovy Dale (b. Johnson County, age 17) on January 11, 1901 in Johnson County.

According to her death certificate, there was a stillborn baby girl born on July 13, 1917 in Jennies Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky, to Floyd Spradlin (b. Kentucky) and Dovey Dale (b. Kentucky). Also on this certificate, the informant is listed as Floyd Spradlin of Denver, Kentucky.

According to his death certificate, Floyd Spradlin died July 21, 1939 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, from cardio-renal disease. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Johnson County, his birth date as May 22, 1879, his marital status as married, his wife as Lillie VanHoose, his parents as Jake Lewis (b. Johnson County) and Lillie Spradlin (b. Johnson County), the informant as R. L. Laney [hard to read] of Paintsville, and the burial place as Paintsville [hard to read].

According to Kentucky death record transcripts, Floyd Spradlin died July 21, 1939 in Johnson County at the age of 60. He was living in Paintsville at the time of his death.

Spradlin is listed as the head of the household for house #156, he's a farmer, born in May of 1830 in Kentucky, parents born in Virginia, married for 51 years, and he's 70 years old. Also listed are Elisabeth (wife, born in October of 1824 in Tennessee, parents born in Tennessee, married for 51 years, she's given birth to 9 children and 6 are still living, age 75), and Floyd Spradlin (grandson, born in February of 1880 in Kentucky, parents born in Kentucky, age 20).

      According to her obituary, Ruby Spradlin Meade (age 43), daughter of Mrs. Neva VanHoose Spradlin and the late Floyd Spradlin, was a resident of Staffordsville at the time of her death. She was born June 6, 1926 in Johnson County, died April 27, 1969 in a local hospital following an extended illness, and was buried in the family cemetery in Staffordsville. In addition to her mother, she was survived by a daughter, Janet Sue Meade (of Bloomington, Kentucky); and 1 half-sister, Ethel Blevins (Paintsville).
