ISAAC "BUD" RICE, son of ALEXANDER L. RICE and LUCY ANN BARNETT, was born November 14, 1863 in Kentucky, died June 25, 1935 in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky, and is buried in Denver Hill Cemetery in Denver, Johnson County, Kentucky. He married (1) ETNA B. MILAM on December 29, 1887 in Johnson County, Kentucky. He married (2) MARIAH LOUISA KING on January 3, 1901 in Johnson County, Kentucky. She was born in June of 1863 in Kentucky, and died March 22, 1955 in Johnson County, Kentucky. Mariah King married (1) GEORGE N. WALTERS on March 20, 1884 in Johnson County, Kentucky. He was born about 1860.

Notes: Information on this family can be found on page 499 of the book "Johnson County, Kentucky: A History of the County, and Genealogy of Its People Up to the Year 1927" by Mitchell Hall. In that book it says that Bud Rice was was first married to a lady by the name of Milum, and that Bud had a child named Proctor Rice. It also says:

"Mr. Rice lived near Denver, Kentucky. Proctor was not the son of the Milum woman."

Then it says that Bud Rice married a Mrs. Marier Walters and that their children were Ethel Rice (married Ray Bayes) and Dicy Rice. And then:

"Mr. and Mrs. Rice lived for a long time near Denver, but for the last few years have resided on the east side near Paintsville. Mrs. Rice was originally a King, and had married George Walters, who was killed in a school election on Jennie's Creek. Ethel and Ray Bayes are separated."

Two children of Mariah Louise King and George N. Walters were Clark F. Walters and Flossie Walters.

It's possible that Bud Rice's first marriage was to Henrietta Milam, daughter of Margaret Milam, and instead of her name being "Etna," as it's listed in a transcript of their marriage, that it was actually "Etta," being short for Henrietta. Henrietta Milam couldn't be traced past the 1880 census. Bud Rice was listed as "single" in the 1900 census, as opposed to "widowed."

According to Joseph Eugene Conley, "Two girls were born to the union of Bud and Etna. While the girls were playing along a rail fence, the rails came loose and struck the girls, killing them both."

According to his obituary, Charles E. Walters (age 85), son of the late George and Mariah Louisa King Walters, was a retired miner and a resident of Paintsville at the time of his death. He was born November 10, 1888, died in January of 1975 in a local hospital, and was buried in the family cemetery in Hager Hill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tava Salyers Walters, on September 30, 1971. He was survived by 1 son, Robert Walters (of Erlanger); 3 daughters, Ernestine Ward (Paintsville), Ruth Lanell Phillips (Lexington), and Lorrene Burchett (Charleston, West Virginia); 3 sisters, Della Lawrence (Portsmouth, Ohio), Flossie Ray (Huntington, West Virginia), and Ethel Chester (Ashland); 8 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. (Taken from the obituary page of the The Johnson County Historical & Genealogical Society's website.)

"The remains were taken last Thursday to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. M. (Bud) Rice, on Jennies Creek her old home, where they were laid to rest to await the Judgement Day.
