GEORGE WASHINGTON CONLEY, son of JOHN SMITH CONLEY and ELIZABETH BRAMER, was born June 7, 1864 in Carter County, Kentucky, died December 23, 1945 in Upper Tygart, Carter County, Kentucky, and is buried in Dean Cemetery in Globe, Carter County, Kentucky. He married EVA LEE RANKIN, daughter of SAMUEL COOK RANKIN and EMILY SCOTT, October 25, 1886 in Fleming County, Kentucky. She was born in July of 1870 in Kentucky, died before 1945, and is buried in Logan County, West Virginia.

Notes: According to "The Conley Clan of Eastern Kentucky," published and sold by The Magoffin County Historical Society (page 527), George Conley was born June 7, 1865.

According to his death certificate, Henry Crow Rankin died April 3, 1912 in Poindexter, Harrison County, Kentucky, from chronic Brights disease. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Kentucky, his birth date as February 9, 1850, his marital status as married, his occupation as farmer, his parents as Samuel Cook Rankin (b. Kentucky) and Emily Scott (b. Kentucky), the informant as Evaline Rankin of Robinson, Kentucky, and the burial place as Benson Chappel [sic].

According to his death certificate, Cyrus Newton Rankin died January 25, 1918 in Falmouth, Pendleton County, Kentucky, from "Multiple Neuritis." Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Harrison County, Kentucky, his birth date as December 2, 1851, his marital status as widower, his occupation as stone mason, his parents as Samuel Cook Rankin and Emily Scott, the informant as O. V. Rankin of Falmouth, and the burial place as Sunrise, Kentucky.

According to his death certificate, George W. Conley died December 23, 1945 in Upper Tygart, Carter County, Kentucky, from heart dropsy. HOWARD CONLEY, son of GEORGE WASHINGTON CONLEY and EVA LEE RANKIN, was born July 21, 1887 in Olive Hill, Carter County, Kentucky. He married DORA C. ELLIS, daughter of EDWARD ELBERT ELLIS and MARY ALICE KELLER, June 12, 1911 in Vigo County, Indiana. She was born January 1, 1896 in Indiana, and died in December of 1982 in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana.

Notes: According to Indiana marriage record transcripts, Howard Conley married Dora C. Ellis on June 12, 1911 in Vigo County.

When Howard Conley's World War I draft registration card was filled out on June 5, 1917 in Vigo County, Indiana, he stated that he was a railroad section foreman in Seelyville, Indiana, that he had a wife and 2 children, and that he was born July 21, 1887 in Olive Hill, Kentucky. He was found to be tall, of medium build, and he had blue eyes and brown hair.

Notes: When Howard Conley's World War II draft registration card was filled out on April 27, 1942 in Terra Haute, Vigo County, Indiana, he stated that he was working for the W.P.A. in Lafayette, Indiana, that the person who would always know his name was Dora Conley of Seelyville, Indiana, and that he was born July 21, 1887 in Kentucky. He was found to be 5 feet 11 inches tall, he weighed 174 pounds, and he had blue eyes, black hair, and a ruddy complexion.

According to Social Security death record transcripts, Dora Conley was born January 1, 1896, and died in December of 1982. She received her Social Security card in 1951-1952 in Indiana, and her last place of residence was in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana.

They both had been drinking. Ward had wrecked his car once already prior to this and William was telling him, 'No'. He wasn't take no for an answer. He got in his car and was going to drive away so William shot him. I haven't found any thing about William going to jail or what happened after that."

From page 2 of the Kingspot Times on June 24, 1935, "Liam Dickerson, 56, was in the cutody of Constable James Palmer today following the fatal shooting of Dickerson's brother-in-law Ward Vanderpool, 31, yesterday. Vanderpool was shot twice, one bullet striking him in the abdomen and the other the left eye. The shooting occurred at Dickerson's home near here. Dickerson surrendered and was arraigned before Magistrate Charles Wells who placed him in Constable Palmers custody for safekeeping until County Judge W. M. Noland returns to the city hall."

From page 9 of the Hamilton [Ohio] Journal on June 25, 1935, "Ward Vanderpool, age 31, was shot and instantly killed during an altercation with William Dickers, age 56, at the latter's home Old Pike outside the Irvine city limits."

According to her death certificate, Evelyn Barbara Womack Womack died August 29, 1929 in Alcorn, Greenup County, Kentucky, from "Senility Possibly Cephalic Meningitis." Also on this certificate, her birthplace is listed as Greenup County, her birth date as October 28, 1848, her marital status as widowed, her husband as Watson Womack, her parents as John Kaut (b. When Arch Conley's World War I draft registration card was filled out on September 12, 1918 in Catlettsburg, Boyd County, Kentucky, he stated that he was a miner working for Jess Wilson in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky, that his closest relative was Miram Conley of Unity, Boyd County, and that he was born February 14, 1874. He was found to be of medium height and build, and he had blue eyes and black hair.

Information found on findagrave.com and a photo of their headstones shows that Arch L. Conley lived from 1874 to 1952, and was buried in Section 14 of Ashland Cemetery in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky, and that Miriam A. Conley lived from 1874 to 1952, and was buried in the same section of the same cemetery.

According to his death certificate, Arch Conley died August 5, 1952 in Cannonsburg, Boyd County, Kentucky, from apoplexy and carcinoma of the face. Also on this certificate, his birthplace is listed as Carter County, his birth date as February 14, his age as 78, his marital status as married, his occupation as farmer, his parents as Henry Conley and Mahala Davis, the informant as Mrs. A. Conley, and the burial place as Ashland Cemetery.

According to Jonda Leigh Conley Byrd (December 28, 2000): "My great grandmother was Mahala Davis Conley she was married to Henry. My grandfather was Arch Lee Conley. I have an orginal obituary of Arch Conley. It states:

     'Arch Conley 78, farmer, died at 4:15 pm yesterday at his home in Cannonsburg, KY, following an illness of two years.
     'A resident of Boyd County for 30 years, Mr. Conley was born February 14, 1874 in Carter County, Ky., a son of Henry and Mahala Davis Conley.
     'Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm tomorrow at the Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. Carroll Caudill officiating. Burial will be in the Ashland Cemetery. The body is at the funeral home, where friends may call after 7 o'clock this evening.
     'Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Miriam Conley; three daughters Mrs. Ruth Cooksey and Mrs. Esther Kiser, both of Ashland, and Miss Bess Conley at home; four sons, Russell and John H. Conley, Galliopolis, O., Clifford Conley, Ashland, and Ernest Conley at home, and 14 grandchildren."
