FRANKLIN FAIRCHILD "FRANK" RICE, son of SAMUEL M. RICE and SARAH F. "SALLIE" PRICE, was born November 1, 1882 in Kentucky, and died February 3, 1948 in Raleigh County, West Virginia. He married PEARL PRICE, daughter of ELIZABETH CONLEY and JAMES M. PRICE, about 1908. She was born in August of 1886 in Kentucky.

Notes: Pearl Price was reportedly the daughter of Martin Luther and Exer Preston Price. In the 1900 census there is a Pearl Price listed as Martin's daughter - he's widowed - and she's the same age as Virgie Price, who's also listed as a daughter, with both being born in August of 1886. In Martin Luther Price Jr.'s obituary in 1951 there are two sisters who are listed as having preceded him in death, and Pearl isn't one of them. She's not listed as a surviving sister, either. In 1910, Martin Price Sr. is living in house #4 of District 50 (Hager Shoals) in Floyd County, Kentucky, and Frank and Pearl are in house #41. In both "The Conley Clan of Eastern Kentucky," published and sold by The Magoffin County Historical Society, and "Johnson County, Kentucky: A History of the County, and Genealogy of Its People Up to the Year 1927" by Mitchell Hall, it says that Martin and Exer's son James married Elizabeth Conley, and that their daughter, Pearl, married Frank Rice. In addition, the Johnson County book lists the children of Martin and Exer, and they are: James, George, Nannie, Sallie, Martin L., and Virgie. No Pearl. Neither Elizabeth nor James Price could be found in the 1900 census, and it seems possible that Pearl was the daughter of James and Elizabeth Conley Price, that they had both died by 1900, and that Pearl was living with her grandfather. That's how it will be listed here.

According to his obituary, Martin Luther Price (age 73), son of the late Martin Luther and Exer Preston Price of Johnson County, was born August 5, 1878 in Johnson County, died November 30, 1951 in King Addition [Paintsville] from pneumonia, and was buried in Johnson Cemetery in Thelma. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 brother, George W. Price; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Sherman Conley and Mrs. W. L. Smith. He was survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Rebecca Davis Price, whom he married December 14, 1898; 5 sons, Luther Price (of Morehead, Kentucky), John C. Price (Paintsville), Elmer Price (Paintsville), E. H. Price (Paintsville), and Cecil Price (Paintsville); 1 daughter, Nora Thelma Price (Paintsville); and 1 sister, Mrs. Virgie Grim (West Van Lear). (Taken from the obituary page of the The Johnson County Historical & Genealogical Society's website.)
